In Texas, control is on the hands of those people who represent the governing bodies. Texas is a small government state, sovereign state that doesn’t let federal government interfere. Within the state there are cities, county, and municipalities which are governed by the state. Texas is popularly known as a state that embraces local control, a principle that is supposed to guide policy makers to make policies. But, the use of local control has been exploited. For instance, the use of local control has been implied to create large number of bans, formation of rules that create complex situations for a city to govern. Obviously, those lawmakers are trying to help out those sources of disposal for the purpose of making profit out of it. But, they are looking down the impact that it may have on Texans. As the increased waste disposals degrades the environment, it will eventually pile the problems on the citizens. In this kind of issues the local control must be in the lead as the policymakers are in course to diminish the environmental essence in Texas. Local control is a means that is applicable to solve this kind of issues which affect the citizens and Texas, itself. In another mentioned article – liberty trumps local control, I have observed how Rinaldi poses liberty superior to local control. In Texas, local control is preferred by many but its implications have led to numbers of bad policies. Like checks and balances of powers among the governments, there should be certain limitations and monitoring of how local control is executed. Initially, people of the community were not supported but they gathered and collected signatures against the company for fracking. But, since the ban was not overall beneficial as a whole, state government had to reverse the ban on fracking. In this issue, the use of local control was exploited in which general people acted without detail research and forced policy makers to pose a ban on fracking. Instead of exploiting the local control, as an end means to solve such issues, it should be directed towards providing information to the policy makers which would eventually help them create a solution to allow oil companies to function without degrading the essence of the community. In regards to the state government’s will on the policies, I believe that imposing state’s will on the policies is a bit hypocritical because it would not be fair for all. Policies need to be just for all, it should be created with input of right information and focusing on the overall betterment of a state. As per Texas, it is a state which has close connections with it’s people so it would be against the values to impose state’s will on policies disregarding the importance of it’s people’s
