The Civil War, fought from 1861 and 1865, was best know as “The War Between the States,” because it was between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. Although the war ended, it led to several long-term effects that have now impacted our community, geographically and economically that are still intact today. Income taxes were first created in the summer of 1861 to levy the war efforts. The congress was left to come up with a way to raise any money that remained in debt. They levied a 1% tax on wages on the first $1500 and 2% on any additional income. The civil war was won by United States, which ended in 1865. This is where the Reconstruction Era was adopted from, a restoration to the South. Andrew Johnson was now president during this time due to Abraham Lincoln being assassinated days after the war ended. The Reconstruction era included changes in the community that ranged from Black Codes, Freedmen’s Bureau and the Civil Rights Act. In the end, the results were to that the there was more equitable taxation legislation. Public schools systems, laws against racial discrimination that were supported in public transport and economic development programs. Sharecropping is the system of where the landlord allows a tenant to use land in exchanged for a share of the crop. Many slaves didn’t have places to go; slaves seek jobs and planters needed laborers; so they decided to rent land from white owner and raise crops. The tenant would settle would owned what and how much of the crops. In 1866, a social group known as the KKK, Ku Klux Klan was formed. It is a political organization that organized their frustration and sought to defeat their enemies and intimidate former slaves. They used acts if terrorism that ranged from murder, lynching, arson, rape and bombing to oppose the granting of the Civil rights, Adopting a hooded white costumed that represented the ghosts of the dead confederates that avoided their true identity, Today, the government has identified 384 battles that had a significant impact on the larger war. Reconstruction is during which the United States began to rebuild the Southern society after they lost to the civil war. It lasted from 1865 to 1877, and it was initiated by President Lincoln until his assassination in 1865. President Johnson continued Lincoln’s agenda to continue the Reconstruction. Throughout the process of Reconstruction, one of its main purpose was to guarantees for equal rights for all people, especially for the African Americans. Even though slavery was abolished after the civil war, many Southerners were still against the idea of equal rights for all black people, such as the Republicans.

The Civil War of 1861-65 established what kind of nation the United States would be and it is the center of attention when it comes to conversations about Americas many historical events. The four year war was between the North that was free and the South that supported slavery, all the conflict erupted after president Abraham Lincoln was elected into office in the 1860’s. The civil war started because of the conflict that was happening between these states and the different ways the people were going through life. The reason this war started was because there was so many differences between the free and slave states on who should have the power to prohibit slavery in the territories that hadn’t became states yet. Abraham Lincoln wanted to keep the slavery out of these new territories, but the South disagreed, so instead many of the slave states down south got together and formed their own nation.
The Civil War was a battle between the north and south that neither side had anticipated would be so long and difficult. This long lasting war involved several battles that led to thousands of casualties on both sides. A total of more than six hundred twenty thousand American men perished. The objective of the Civil War was to abolish slavery from the north’s perspective, or to keep the southern lifestyle as the southerners justification to fight. The winning side of this war would change the history of slaves, and whether or not it still exists to this day.
After the war had ended, President Johnson revealed his strategies for Reconstruction of the South, which echoed both his stance on supporting the Union and his strong principles of states having their own rights. In Johnson’s opinion, the southern states had never agreed to give up their right to rule themselves, and the federal government had no justification to regulate voting conditions or other inquiries at the state level. Under Johnson’s Presidential renovation project, all the property that had been seized by the Union Army and dispersed to the freed slaves by the military, or the Freedmen’s Bureau returned the land to its previous possessors: before the war. The Civil War was a vital event that occurred in America’s historical consciousness and in order to understand the medical aspect of the war, first defining exactly what the war was about is fundamental. According to Dixon, the Civil War transpired in 1861-1865 and it was essentially about the “uncompromising differences between the free and slave states over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states.” Significant battles occurred in Chickamauga, Shiloh in Tennessee, Fredericksburg in Virginia, and Antietam in Maryland, Gettysburg in Pennsylvania and Atlanta in Georgia.

Most people know that the Union had succeeded in their battle with the Confederates which explains why slavery has ceased to exist in the United States, but do they know how and why the Union had triumphed over the Confederates? Even though the Confederates had a much greater area of land making it hard to invade, the north won the civil war because of the sheer number of resources, weapons, and men that they had.

During the civil war (lasting from 1861 to 1865) many changes in our nation occurred. Some of those changes were in government, agriculture, work, laws, military, and machinery. The military and machinery advancements that occurred during the civil war were very large steps into the things we used today. They modernization of the military tactics and weapons made it easier for the U.S. to fight and the new machinery made those new “modern” ideas come to life.

The Civil War’s Positive Effects Outweigh The Negative Effects The Civil War’s positive effects greatly outweigh the negative effects. There were numerous negative effects of the war including things like the death toll, how hard it made getting houses and decent jobs for African Americans, etc, but the positives bring light over the negatives. The Civil War greatly affected the political structure of the United States with the abolishment of slavery, with this abolishment it brought many new political advancements for the U.S.
