Stress is a very common part of our everyday lives. Managing stressful situations can be difficult, with most people leading busy lifestyles. However, it is possible to manage and reduce stress through the use of self-care activities. In this essay I will reflect on the self-care activities that I use, in particular, focusing on one of these activities and how it works in my life. I will also discuss how my self-care activity to manage stress builds resilience, and if there are any improvements that need to be made. The English Oxford Living Dictionaries (2017) defines stress as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances”. Stress can affect our bodies in many different ways and can often result in illness and poor health and wellness. Stress can worsen or even lead to illness, affect peoples behaviour, and can produce changes in the bodies psychological and physical systems (Caltabiano, Sarafino, & Byrne, 2008). The diathesis stress model is useful with regards to social work practice, especially in areas of psychological disorder or mental health such as depression (Salomon, 2013). It describes how psychological disorder arises from interaction between genetic factors and environmental stress (Salomon, 2013). The genetic vulnerability to a psychological disorder is called diathesis and it includes physiology, genetic makeup, personality or combination of all those (Salomon, 2013). This theory suggests that the likelihood or severity of a disorder increases with greater stress. In other words, if the individual has high genetic vulnerability to the disorder, it would take lower levels of stress to trigger a disorder.

INTRODUCTION Stress is a word derived from Latin word “Stingere” meaning to draw tight. (Mojoyinola, 2008) Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand or threat. When you feel threatened, your nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones, and including adrenaline and cortisol, which rouse the body for emergency action. Your heart pounds faster, muscles tighten, blood pressure rises, breath quickens, and your senses become sharper. These physical changes increase your strength and stamina, speed your reaction time, and enhance your focus.
Andrew Weil, M.D., has a body, mind and spirit approach when it comes to alternative medicine. One thing Dr. Weil discusses is the use and importance of breathing exercises. There are three breathing exercises that Dr.Weil recommends they are, The stimulating breath, the 4-7-8 breathing exercise and breath counting. While watching the three breathing exercises I could use, I chose the 4-7-8 breathing exercise. The 4-7-8 breathing exercise (relaxing breath) is great for reducing stress and help you to relax Why is proper breathing important?

) There are many different kinds of support given to workers in order to help them deal with stress. Here we will be looking at types of stress support given to employees as well as their stressors, by giving examples of these derived from the case study. Types of support given can include psychological support, cognitive support, employee assistance programs and physical support (Lehrer et al, 1994). Types of stressors that employees face are work overload, work-life balance, emotional and physical labor, job ambiguity and job demands (Danna & Griffin, 1999). Under psychological support there are various mediation and relaxation techniques that are used in order to help support employees suffering from stress.
3. Review of literature 3.1 Stress and its types: Stress is an essential mediator of human behaviour. Immediate physiological response to any type of stressor facilitates survival of the species at its maximum. Despite of normal homeostatic regulatory mechanism, the stress responses can become maladaptive. Chronic stress, for example immobilization, exposure to noise, irradiations, psychological stress can leads to a host of adverse health consequences, including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, obesity, depression and early ageing (McEwen et al, 2004).
Stress is a ubiquitous part of everyday life. There is no way to avoid stress but you can learn to manage it. Stress can be caused through distinct ways and distinct reasons such as personal problems, social and job issues, post-traumatic stress and so on. You may have headache, feeling anxiety and depression, and easily irritated if did not handle stress well. Reduce stress in daily life is important to keep overall health since it will let you to have better frame of mind, enhance immunity and longevity so you can be more productive.
