The first ever recorded arrest for cannabis possession was in Denver, Colorado in 1937. Colorado being one of the states that has now legalized cannabis has seen extreme improvement in crime. Denver police department stated that violent crime such as rape and robbery, etc. has dropped 6.9% and property crime like breaking and entering, fell 11.1%. Oppositions to legalizing the drug mainly come from scientists. Cannabis is said to have an addictive nature, but I beg to differ. Studies show that 32% of tobacco users become addicted, 23% of heroin, 17% of cocaine, 15% of alcohol, and only about 9% of marijuana users. It is also less addictive than caffeine. Analysis show that withdrawal from caffeine will leave you with headaches, nausea, fatigue and maybe depression, but withdrawal from marijuana will leave you with no side effects because our brain is already adapted to cannabinoid. Cannabinoid is a group of components made up of cannabis. It is also said that weed is a gateway drug, but weed does not give you the same sensation if it is crossed contaminated, so most smokers don’t begin to use new drugs.
