Having seen it twice already, Tabitha McCoy said, “I would say if you love musicals or plays go to see Mary Poppins because the kids did amazing.”
The kids are all Madison High students, called the Madison Avenue Players, and an ensemble of elementary children. Starring Maryn Tueller, a senior at Madison, as Mary Poppins.

However, some audience members find the play to be too long and drawn out.
At 3 hours Mary Poppins is one of the longer musicals available to high school theater, which can stretch the patience of the audience.
Yet, Act 2 rewards members who didn’t leave during intermission with the three most energetic scenes of the play: let 's go fly a kite, step in time, and anything can happen.
The cast entertains audience members as Mary Poppins flies in and out of scenes, kites are flown over the audience, and a disco ball transforms the auditorium into star filled heavens.
A special effect unique to high school productions, flying characters across the stage required some additional expertise. The school hired a company called Flying By Foy out of Los Vegas.
The company came in, set up the equipment, and trained the cast and crew on how to use the system.
Mary Poppins flies more than just a few times in this play and Maryn Tueller loves it.
Playing Mary herself, Tueller feels as though Mary Poppins is magical and the songs bring tears to her eyes when she sings
The stage performance did an excellent job being true to the play. The stage manager, who is
Michael Paulson, a well-known American journalist recently wrote a piece for the New York Times in September of 2015 called “This Broadway Season, Diversity Is Front and Center”. This piece focuses on the uprising of people from different races being introduced and playing roles in Broadway shows. Paulson asserts this positive statement by providing the reader with many examples of upcoming/present diverse Broadway shows and explaining how the audience can connect with these cultural stories. Paulson also establishes a friendly and highly proud tone when informing his readers that the lack of diversity on Broadway is overcoming; reassuring that indeed times are changing.
When I attended Shrek the Musical put on by Wylie High Schools Theater Department, I admit that I did not have high expectations. I had always enjoyed the Shrek movies, but was not prepared to witness the green Ogre come to life before my eyes. From the moment the characters marched down the isle of the auditorium, it was evident that many talented people had put time in effort into making this performance enjoyable and memorable. Shrek the Musical consisted of a tremendous cast, beautiful music, awe inspiring scenery in addition to heart felt imagery.
Rapid applauding, curtains closing, all the performers waving goodbye. The performance of Annie Jr has just finished. There are smiles on everyone’s face, from the audience to the director and to the performers themselves. Kings Junior High puts on one musical each year for the school’s theatre program. This theatre season, the choice was Annie Jr the musical.
The other element of a successful play that stood out in this production was fluidity. This musical moved smoothly from beginning to end and was easy to follow. Overall, this production was a success and the performance was
The musical Seussical the Musical was a jovial experience that made many including me reminiscence the times when we read Dr. Suess. The creative sets, colorful costumes, and the acting skills brought Dr. Seuss 's books alive. I truly enjoyed the aspect of joining Dr. Seuss books and plots, like Gertrude McFuzz to create one plot and the inclusion of The Cat in the Hat in many of the scenes. The musical captured the ambience of the books, specifically Horton Hears A Who. The dedication of those in the musical shined from their eminent acting skills and their ability to display the character they portrayed.
Give My Regards to Broadway Music brings culture to everyday life, it can be found anywhere at anytime. Music doesn’t have to actually be playing for people to hear it. The rhythm of the city is music in itself, everybody has their own unique sound and way to add into the beat of the city. Music expands in many different ways such as country music, which has it’s own unique sound. Country music can be slow with a love story, fast with a break up story to it, or it could be a moderate speed about a big purple dinosaur.
For this reason, the musical was more entertaining than challenging. While the musical did explore major themes of the movie, the exploration and portrayal of these themes fell short of that in the movie. This can be attributed to the musical numbers and their influence on the tone of the musical. If the tone and the music had been darker, more themes could’ve
Little Shop Of Horrors is a 1986 film about a talking plant from outer space, a little flower shop, and a store boy trying to impress the girl that he’s in love with. This movie is a musical comedy starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Marin as well as the voice of the plant being done by Levi Stubbs. Little Shop Of Horrors originally started out as an extremely low budget horror movie in 1960 that was made in the matter of two days which they got the idea for the plot of that movie from a book but 20 years after the movie came out it was adapted to a broadway show which later got a movie adaptation. The movie is not exactly known by a lot of people today but in the 80’s a lot of people saw it and they also watched the broadway show. This movie had amazing special effects even to this day the plant moves incredibly well even later into the movie when it gets to about
One of the most important in this particular play is the acting. The actors are good at adapting from one role to the next and switching accessories quickly. The different use of British and other accents in a stereotypical but serious way. The director attempts to make the play successful by bringing everything to life and using the actors to do everything in a smooth and funny matter.
How does Mary Poppins relate to the Bible? The Disney classic Mary Poppins is beloved by all ages in the spectrum. This timeless tale of a mysterious nanny changing the lives of one family seems innocent enough; however, many allusions to the Bible appear quite frequently in the film. While some may argue that the Bible is mutually exclusive, this paper demonstrates that Mary Poppins can be viewed as highly christian because Mary Poppins and Mary the Virgin share similar qualities, the Mary Poppins film itself has religious symbolism, and many of the other characters in the film represent a trait from the Christian faith. The Virgin Mary and Mary Poppins appear to share the same qualities that make them heavenly.
On November 26, 2016, I attended the Emerald City Theatre Company production of Charles M. Schulz play Charlie Brown Christmas. The production of the play was great for the children who were in attends of the play. The production took away the 4th wall. Which help the children of the audiences be a part of the play a couple of times. Still, it 's a good and time-efficient choice for family members who are used to the animated Charlie Brown and wanting it to be the same as the TV special.
“The Play That Goes Wrong” required a very detailed strategic plan of the arranged props and set design that actors need to follow in their performance. I believe the performers did a marvelous job in following the detailed choreography of the show. One of the most memorable cast members was Nancy Zamit. She played Annie the stage manager, who took the spotlight when she was forced into playing Charles’ fiancée named Sandra because the original female lead got "knocked unconscious” in the middle of the play. As terribly shy as she was, Zamit intensified the enjoyment of the audience as her character was reading off lines from pages of the script very awkwardly and awfully in an unfitted red dress and wig.
Wicked is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz based on a book by Winnie Holzman. The musical is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz. Wicked celebrated its tenth anniversary on Broadway on 30 October 2013. It is the 9th longest-Broadway show, surpassing Beauty and the Beast. A typical performance runs for approximately two hours and thirty minutes.
The stage directions are not so descriptive. The setting is described in two lines and the characters are little described. They are limited to describe the actions of the characters. There are sound effects such as the bell that sounds at the end of the play and lightning effects such as the fade out that occurs at the end of each
