My academic goals after I graduated from UC Irvine is to achieve a higher education beyond a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences. I have set going to dental school as a primary goal after graduating. My goal is to eventually obtain a D.D.S (Doctor of Dentist Surgery) degree. Working towards a specialty is an interest that I am very curious in pursuing; however, as of now becoming a general dentist is my main goal. What factor(s) made you interested in studying in the Biological/Biomedical School:

I come from a lower, middle class family. Both of my parents are employed full time but do not make enough income to supply the $20,000 it takes to attend Missouri State. They have always encouraged me to want more for myself, both in my career and in my life in general. Although I am still deciding on a major, I know that I want to make enough money to live comfortably and be able to provide for my family.

As a child, I was never aware of my family’s financial struggles. My parents divorced when I was 12 and money became the central issue in my life. I found myself worrying about mortgages, health bills, and grocery money at a very young age. I want to escape the socioeconomic status I was born into, which is why I am pursuing a post-secondary education.

As I think of the University of Mississippi, the aspect that most impresses me, and is an addition to my desire to immerse myself in this prominent learning community is the University's outstanding resources. I am very attracted to the opportunity to explore and learn at the University of Mississippi's science departments. Science has been my academic passion ever since I entered middle school. My interest for The University of Texas derives from my interest in the Architecture program. The past summer I had the opportunity to participate in the Architecture Academy at the University of Texas and the overall experience solidified my interest in Architecture and the overall University. I appreciated the sense of being able to have a small college in a rather large school. I enjoyed exploring Austin’s culture and I was drawn to the art and music of the City.

Next fall I will be fresh out of high school and I hope to study at Indiana University, because IU has an excellent medical science program. This is why IU’s medical program is the best choice for my academic and career plans for the future. My academic plans as an undergraduate at Indiana University are to study medical laboratory science. I have chosen to study in medical laboratory science because I have always loved science and discovered that I wanted to pursue a future career in a medical lab while taking a course called the principles of biomedical science my junior year. Another major that major that Indiana University offers that interest me is scientific research; this major interest me because of the possibility of making a new discovery

Going forward a liberal arts education will be key for me to attain my goals. Specifically a Hollins liberal arts education. I am interested in pursuing pre-law, creative writing, art, and equine studies. At a typical technical based studies program I would be unable to study and learn what I 'm passionate about. It has been said that if you choose a job you love you will never have to work another day, and I fully intend to live my life with zeal doing what I love and am truly passionate about, and a liberal arts education will help me achieve that.

As a dreamer and queer woman of color, pursuing a career in STEM has been quite challenging. But I have never let anything get in the way of reaching my goals and dreams. I have swam against the current in order to be where I am today, where I have dreamt of being. I am currently a second year student at Trinity Washington University majoring in biochemistry and minoring in mathematics. I am a dedicated student and an analytical and skilled critical thinker who is eager to learn.

I might just be a sophomore in college but I have big aspirations. By 2020 I will definitely have to be done with my Bachelor of Arts. I am majoring in Political Science with a minor in Law and Legal Studies, I am staying focus and contemplating the idea of adding another minor. In addition, I also want to minor in Criminology and Criminal Justice; I just started my second year so I am giving myself time to adapt and understand what I truly want for my academic career.
