Medical Assistant Personal Statement

I’m currently a student at San Joaquin Valley College, working towards becoming a certified medical assistant in which I have proficiency in typing skills and accomplished CPR and HIPAA certification. My passion is the medical field where I can assist the needs and services of others while being able to connect and create a comfortable environment for patients. On an interpersonal level, I excel as a conversationalist to personalize each interaction I encounter. With previous volunteer work for organizations, I’ve come to realize I strive in wanting to make a positive difference in people’s lives and hope to one day be able to do it on a daily basis. Today’s lecture on the physician assistants (PA) was very informative. Mrs. Hughes spoke on what a physician assistant is, what they do as well as what the requirements are for those who chose the career path. PA’s are individuals whom practice medicine while also being under the supervision of medical doctors or physicians. They can work in all areas of medicine including emergency medicine, surgery and psychiatry which Mrs. Hughes works under. Within this occupation individuals have the ability to prescribe medicine, diagnose and treat mental illnesses, give immunizations as well as perform various other tasks.

Every dime I earn working at Reynolds Community College and every grant and scholarship I receive will go towards my passion of studying human behavior and applying everything I learn to bringing every community I can reach, a giant leap forward. After receiving my associates degree in Social a Science I decided to take a year off to work towards finding what it is that I really want to pursue. I have searched for that 'something ' that will keep me intrigued and awake all hours of the night without realizing it. I have eliminated the idea of simply working to make ends meet or finding a good job to support my family and "living" outside the 40+ hours of a weekday job. I am pursuing much more and I am confident that I have found a path leading me to wake up before my alarm clock sounds instead of praying for more time.

Most individuals have a defining moment in their lives, where they know where their life is headed. Pursuing a degree, as a physician assistant for me did not happen in a single moment but a collection of moments. My mother’s battle with heart disease, a father collapsing on the ground unresponsive, watching first hand the initial incision of an ACL reconstruction to the head of an academic program suggesting a masters in physician assistant. An accumulation of these moments has driven me to unite my interests to accomplish and contribute more to healthcare. Throughout my physical therapy assistant program, I excelled but not due to pure intelligence.

If you choose to go to Remington College the program is twelve months and then you take your certification test through the NHA. After you take your test and past you are now certify as a license medical assistant. You can apply at hospitals, Dr. Office, walk in clinics and etc. As a medical assistant you are require to do certain job duties.

Many people consider a job in the medical field most likely because it is widely accepted that if you are a doctor then you are rich. What turns most people away is the eight years of college and a lifetime of loans to pay off. When I was younger, I always wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon, but in fourth grade when you hear, you will have to go to four more years on top of the twelve you have left, your hopes are probably going to die down. I haven’t really thought about a job in the medical field until this year when I went to an orthopedic walk-in for an x-ray. The person I saw was a physician’s assistant, my mom proceeded to tell me how they are not very different from someone with a Ph.D., they can prescribe medicine and are able to choose

Whether it was from going on mission trips and working alongside my peers to help rebuild a community or performing and competing as a dancer, being a part of a team is something that I have always been very comfortable with. In 7th grade I found a new team that I would since aspire to be a part of. I became utterly fascinated with the medical field and all it had to offer because as a young teen I spent a lot of time as a patient in and out of the hospital and saw many providers from different specialties. I loved seeing the way in which different members of a healthcare team worked together for my benefit. While being the patient may have initiated my infatuation with the field, I knew that one day I had to be on the other side.

As a student pursuing dental assisting, I am dedicated to embodying the core values of service, team player, and innovation in my work. To me, service means putting the needs of others before mine and going above and beyond to provide satisfaction and comfort for others. When I become a dental assistant, I will strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that calms any existing nerves the patient may have. I would always have a kind and approachable demeanor and take the time to hear any concerns or questions the patient may have. Service is an important aspect of life to me.

I have grown and refined my capacity to use initiative, make judgments, and accept responsibility for my own actions as a healthcare assistant. This component of my job is essential to making sure that safe and efficient treatment is provided. Here, I'll consider how my time working as a healthcare assistant has helped me improve in these areas. Using Initiative: Over time, I have become more proactive in identifying and addressing patient needs. I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.

With interest I read that your school is looking for Teacher Assistants. Since I am really motivated to work in the field of education in an international learning environment, I would like to offer my candidacy for this job. Last year I completed my PhD at the Scuola Normale Superiore (Italy) in Philosophy, with a focus on Logic and Philosophy of Language. My working language throughout this period has been English. People like Oliver Sacks, Atul Gawande, Adam Gazzaley, and the like who practice and have a larger platform delving into utilizing medicine as a tool for larger social purposes—using the power of art along the way. As I think about how I want to practice medicine, I value autonomy, creativity, problem solving, entrepreneurship, being noticed for my work, and getting the most out of not only myself but the people around me in a close knit team.
