Mexican American War A Turning Point

Although slavery was declared over after the passing of the thirteenth amendment, African Americans were not being treated with the respect or equality they deserved. Socially, politically and economically, African American people were not being given equal opportunities as white people. They had certain laws directed at them, which held them back from being equal to their white peers. They also had certain requirements, making it difficult for many African Americans to participate in the opportunity to vote for government leaders. Although they were freed from slavery, there was still a long way to go for equality through America’s reconstruction plan.

In other words, it typically brought America together, and that is key for a good nation. The effects the Civil War had on the U.S becoming a nation was significantly dramatic. This includes when the two regions that were having slavery at the time, causing a bad perspective on the U.S., the Civil War had put an end to that slavery. Following the ending of the Civil War in 1865, America was in an era known as the Reconstruction. The Reconstruction lasted until 1877. Citizens were attempting to rebuild our nation following one of the deadliest war in American History. In this time, the Fourteenth Amendment and Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution were ratified. Although slaves were freed, African Americans still faced intense racial prejudice and discrimination.

The 1800’s were one of the most revolutionary times in the history of the United States. The slaves were recently emancipated, and there was a great amount of confusion regarding racial tension, and the reconstruction. Blacks were still struggling to find their place in the their newly found free society. The 14’th and 15’th amendments supported the freedom and citizenship, of blacks, but they still were treated as lesser beings. Anti-Black groups, such as the KKK, made everyday life for a black citizen a dangerous journey.

After four long years, the Unions won the war which saw to it that both parties ended up as a united nation once again. The North overpowered and defeated the South due to a number of reasons as illustrate below. To begin with, the fact that the South majored in agriculture made them to be left behind in terms of industrialization, an important factor during the civil war since fabricated merchandise was highly regarded than agricultural products. The North was therefore privileged to be in a better position in production of armory since it was able to host firms that manufactured ammunitions and war locomotives. The South was poorer, since cotton was no longer making ready income and they only had a few manufacturing origins.

During this time the south became even more divided and started to take things into account and create their own laws in regards to racism.

The people were more calm and the United States finally became one nation. There was hardly anymore slaves they were considered free people. To go where they please and to do what they please the war was fought good and it also ended good. There was no more fighting,pain ,and most important no more slaves.

They had thought everything was going good for them with the 13th and 14th amendment being announced. Also The Emancipation Proclamation which stated, on January 1, 1863, "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free" was a speech that actually came out before the 13th and 14th amendment which was the whole reason why those amendments had came out. The Mexican-American War changed the Unites States of America in a monumental way. This war changed The U.S.A.’s relationship with foreign powers and the economic standpoint of the nation. The Mexican- American war, and its strong ties to manifest destiny, shaped the nation in a country bordered by two seas with a chance for common folk and foreigners to have a sustainable life due to the gold rush. The war can also be accounted for the downfall leading to the Civil War over the conflict of slavery due to the land purchased in the wars treaty.
