Starting off with how Comanches, Kiowas, Navajos, and other Indian tribes increased their attacks on Northern Mexican settlements which led to countless raids. Some of the reasons that cause this war were boundary disagreements and Manifest destiny. Americans overall outnumbered Mexicans during this time, which an advantage to Americans. In addition, Mexicans were viewed in a bad way, they saw them as weak and not intelligent. The Mexican- American war was indeed a turning point for the slavery issue going on in the United States of America. America had become very self-conscious and their interests became antagonistic in the future of determining the future for the new land gained from Mexico (Document 2). Before the Mexican-American war the president during the time, Polk wanted to acquire California after signing a treaty for half of Oregon. He tried to get California as part of the United States in a peaceful manner but failed. Soon after failing to get California he turned to war.

Spanish-American War The Spanish-American war of 1998 was a huge beginning for the many people, all because America empathized and had a lot of sympathy towards the people of Cuba, who were under the colonial rule of spain. America reacted to this, most likely because it reminded them of the time they were under the colonial rule of Britain, they both just wanted to be liberated from those rulers. Certain precipitating things happened, pushing America and its people to declare war against the spanish, leaving an aftermath that would affect the world for better or for worse. The people of America were a huge part of the decision to declare war on Spain, their opinions, ideas, and emotions were all playing factors to this war.

The big debate across the growing United States was the debate of slavery and which states would come in as free or slavery states. The Mexican-American War was a major turning point in this debate because it settled the debate over which states would become free or slavery states. This war lasted a little over a year and 9 months long on the border of the United States and Mexico (Texas and Mexico City). This war would helped settle many disputes, but the main debate it would settle would be the huge slavery debate. Many of them faced a lot of challenges throughout the time. Mexican-Americans faced discrimination and racism throughout the event of the war. They faced a lot of hate in their jobs, school and in the army. This discrimination was often institutionalized and supported by laws and policies. A lot of them faced a language barrier since many of them were not fluent in English, which made it difficult for them to have any type of access in the education, jobs, and many other things.
During World War II, there was an increase of Mexican immigration in the United States, which greatly increased the population. There were significant incidents of racism between Mexican Americans and Americans that affected the view on World War II. Mexican Americans were drafted into or volunteered for the U.S. army. Since there was an increase of immigration, Mexican Americans had more opportunities of getting jobs in the United States, especially in the west. World War II had many effects on Mexican Americans, and that changed the perspective of Mexican Americans nationally and worldwide.
