Texas couldn’t handle a government, so the United States offered Texas to join the U.S. This made Mexico angry and this is where the trouble begins. Was the United States justified in going into war with Mexico. The United States was not justified in going into war with Mexico because the U.S invaded Mexico, the U.S robbed Texas, and did not respect Mexican authority.

After America declared independence, we had our sights on expanding our land, and we all believed Manifest Destiny. After getting Louisiana from france, the next big part of land was Texas, owned by Mexico. Mexico wanted people to live in Texas because most of their people lived down south in Mexico, so they gave a deal, you can get free land in Texas if you follow three simple rules. You have to be loyal to Mexico, live on the land for ten years, become Catholic, and no slavery. After a while a ton of americans came and there was ten thousand americans, while only two thousand Mexican residents in Texas.

The Mexican American war not only showed America’s endless determination and immense power, but its readiness to overcome any obstacles that they may face which made the rest of the world fear America. The first reason why I think the US was unjustified was because Polk provoked Mexico. when Polk heard about the Mexicans inviting in American farmers to increase the population in texas, polk got the idea to kick out all Mexicans in the states and let The US grow. In early 1846, on polks orders, The troops were commanded by Zachary taylor to march to Rio grande, right across the city of Matamoros, in dispute and increasing possibilities of a confrontation. But In the Mexican government's eyes, the mobilization of The US army was an outright attack on Mexico so of course they reacted quick.

I believe that the Mexicans caused the Mexican War because of their poor communication and they passed the boundary of the United States. The spot resolution say that Mexico has "invaded our territory, and shed the blood of our fellow citizens on our own soil. " This means that Mexico took the annexation the wrong way and they completely unmannerly of Americas property. Those whose blood was shed were the American soldiers defending the border of the new state of Texas. Also, there was so much miscommunication and Mexico kept blaming America for everything. "

The way they claimed annexed was by saying the Rio Grande was the southern boundary of Texas but Mexico said it was the Nueces River. In regards to the war, Americans were greatly divided. The northerners hated it because of the fact that Texas favored slavery. Those in the south liked the idea of a war because it would help expand to the west. This expansion would provide more land and opportunity.

When Mexico gained its independence from Spain in 1821, a string of ruthless dictators and weak presidents made Mexico an easy target for its powerful neighbor, the United States. The US swooped in to expand its territory and its popular institution of slavery. By doing so, the US started a war with Mexico that was justified for illegitimate reasons. The Mexican-American War was not justified because the US took Mexico’s land for the expansion of slavery, and justified their taking advantage of Mexico when it was politically weak by hiding behind Manifest Destiny.

Texas and the United States believed that the Rio Grande was the proper border between Mexico and Texas. Mexico had thought the Nueces River was the border between Texas and Mexico. America not only wanted to annex Texas, but they also had California next in mind. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Mexico fired first and invaded U.S. territory during border disputes, America’s population was growing, and the United States wanted and needed more land.

The United States of America has been through many wars, wars concerning many things such as land oil, pride and respect. However, when the United States went to war with Mexico, it was planned over greed. The Mexican- American war was a war provoked by the United States, in efforts to expand the coasts of the country. Mexico was a small underprivileged country who had previously to the war had already lost part of their country (Texas). Needless to say this war was cut throat and violent, it was however one of the smartest business decisions America has ever made.

Although the United States war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself wasn’t legitimate because of the revolution in Texas, motivation for superiority, and the U.S. government’s actions. To begin, the Texans began an unreasonable war because they didn’t follow Mexico’s laws and conditions. When Mexico started selling cheap land, they set conditions for the people moving in. The people had to convert to Catholicism, learn Spanish, become a Mexican citizen, and have no slaves. Many Americans didn’t like being told what to do, and disobeyed the rules and laws.
