John Steinbeck was an author who wrote 27 different books. He wrote a book in 1929 and it was his first successful one. The name of the first book he made was Cup of Gold. As a young man John Steinbeck worked with his father at a food and grain store. He suffered money issues and social issues. He won a prize in 1940 and 1964. Steinbeck wrote 3 books and got a award from them. Every book he wrote was about the Great Depression. Steinbeck was in Stanford university but never graduated from it. He never seemed to be able to keep a woman as he was married 3 times. He had a couple of children then ended up dying from a heart failure. Every day was the same for 4 years straight. All of the migrant workers made between 268-500$ each year no matter how much work they did. The life of a migrant workers life was normally picking 450 to 500 pounds each day. The Great Depression was nine years long! It went on from 1930-1939. Hooverville was full of community places during the depression. There was a stock market crash as well. And a lot of people got tuberculosis. The American Dream was a belief that all Americans had during the dust bowl. They thought that every US citizen should get the chance as all the others do.
