Japan didn’t open to foreigners until the mid-19th century. Japan quickly realized the situation and began to modernize and westernize as fast as possible. Japan wanted to be strong enough to resist domination of western imperialists who wanted Japan for their own. Japan also wanted to become the strongest Asian country. Japan’s tactics of rapid modernization succeeded, and kept the country and government independent of foreign control.

As opposed to righteous view that America was safeguarding its position in the war, the Japanese American internments were created out of resentment and racial prejudice fostered by other Americans. As the article “Personal Justice Denied” stated, the internments were led by “widespread ignorance of Japanese Americans contributed to a policy conceived in haste and executed in an atmosphere of fear and anger at Japan” (Doc E, 1983). It may seem like a precautionary cause to make internments but there aren’t any other extreme measures for other fronts. Caused by a hatred stirred by media and society’s view, many people disdain the Japanese.

Because the Japanese-American people were more concerned with being accepted and blending into the American culture, the Japanese Americans gave up their former lives in order to make those around them more comfortable. Even though the lives of the Japanese Americans had been essentially torn apart, they suffered the shame of not being able to integrate with the other Americans. Although the Japanese Americans were the ones being penalized for looking a certain way, it was the collective group of Japanese Americans that felt the shame of not being able to properly integrate.

The internment of Japanese Americans was not justified because there was little evidence suggesting they were a threat. The people were left financially ruined as they lost their homes, businesses, and land. Prior to the war, people of the Japanese were a valuable element in the population. They were law-abiding citizens who contributed to the contributed to the arts, agriculture, and many actually joined the armed forces. Thousands of Japanese workers helped construct the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Oregon Short Line and other railroads in the Columbia River Basin.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Americans were fearful of further Japanese attacks on the West Coast and also of Japanese Americans. In response to this fear, President Roosevelt passed an executive order relocating all people of Japanese descent from the West Coast inland. Similar to the fear of the American people, the witch hunts in the novel The Crucible by Arthur Miller led people to believe that girls in the town were being bewitched. Mass hysteria caused multiple arrests for accusations and even death for the so called “witches”. The theme of fear in both the Crucible and the Japanese Internment Camps of WWII caused people to be easily persuaded with the use of pathos and logos.

Lack of freedom, war and poor quality of life are few of the many factors that contributed to the Japanese immigration to Canada. For example, women were not allowed to work outside of the home and their their social freedoms, which included the right to vote and play a positive role in the society, were denied. People were also forced to leave their homeland because of the southern war in 1877, which resulted in the death of thousands of innocent civilians. The war also had negative social and financial impacts. For example, they didn’t have enough jobs, people killed each other for food and framers even lost their land that they had been working on for years.

The internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was not justified. After Pearl Harbor, many Americans were scared of the Japanese Americans because they could sabotage the U.S. military. To try and solve the fear President Franklin D Roosevelt told the army in Executive order 9066 to relocate all Japanese Americans living on the West Coast. They were relocated to detention centers in the desert. Many of them were in the detention centers for three years.

This horror story was all too true for the thousands of Japanese Americans alive during World War II. Almost overnight, thousands of proud Japanese Americans living on the west coast were forced to leave their homes and give up the life they knew. The United States government was not justified in the creation of Japanese internment camps because it stripped law-abiding American citizens of their rights out of unjustified fear.

There are still factors that have only been erased on the surface but still play a large role in the way that people of color are treated in America, and dictate to a certain extent, compromise the “freedom” that people have. On the other hand, we have white America, who have heightened chances of achieving anything that they please. This does not apply to every white American, as there are also white Americans who are living on or below the poverty line, and much like everybody else must put in a lot of effort to reach certain heights, however they have an advantage over all other denomination of people known as “white privilege” which are the societal benefits that people who can be categorized as “white” enjoy over the rest of the population and in the end, have a higher social status. Ultimately, people of color must work harder, and face many more setbacks in their climb to success than white Americans do, which is not fair,

Executive Order 9066 placed all citizens of Japanese descent in internment camps. Even Japanese citizens from Peru were forcefully sent to American internment camps. “...the US government asked a dozen Latin American countries, among them Peru, to arrest its Japanese residents. ”(Gonzales) This represents how Americans were insecure about the US national security.

In my opinion, the Japanese were still trying to show that they were Americans. They were complying with people putting them into the internment camps and they burned all of their heritage. Honestly, they were not doing anything un-American, but, because of their race, they were targeted. Arresting someone based on race is not constitutional, but we still see it today.
