Modern Family Analysis

Millions of families have immigrated into the United States since its founding. One such family was the Macaluso/Cusimano family. This family of Sicilians lived in Italy for three generations, until immigrating into the United States in 1894. Though they did not lead exciting, politically important, lives, they left their mark through an enormous bloodline whose oldest known source is Vincenzo Cusimano. His descendants, Dane Crosby being a member of the latest generation, went on, and continue to live on, to lead fruitful lives.

Jean Bethke Elshtain presents a critical perspective about the deteriorating state of the family in contemporary society in her article, “Society's Well-Being Depends upon the Traditional Family”. By employing rhetorical strategies of ethos, logos, and pathos, the author constructs a persuasive case that calls for renewed focus on the family as the fundamental unit of society. Elshtain builds her argument through a combination of rhetorical strategies, including the use of ethos, logos, and pathos. Each of these elements contributes to her overall argument and the extent to which her rhetoric succeeds in convincing readers of the urgency in addressing the challenges faced by the family unit.

The absence of parental involvement in the lives of adolescents is a predictor of the initiation of substance abuse. The authors of the article bring awareness to the need for Brief Family-based interventions to decrease the number of adolescent’s substance abusers. Brief interventions were designed to incorporate time-limited, low-threshold services to prevent progression to more server substance use. The article suggests the “family checkup” technique under the family-based interventions to assist with motiving the parents to change current unhealthy actions for the betterment of the child and family system. This technique is used through the concept of motivational interviewing.

Some positive effects could include an easier way to communicate among countries and groups and spread good and full hearted ideas. Secondly the power of the media could be domesticated by the government if it were official. It also could be used to support a cause that a certain official stands for and would benefit many lives. Lastly it could also support the United States of America and its citizens through what may occur. Some negative effects may be it being used against the other branches of government and then they would get a greater amount of power.

In the essay “What Is This Thing Called Family”, Lee Herrick reflects his life as a Korean adoptee raised by a Caucasian couple in America. He suffered a difficult life when he was a child because of the differences of his physical attributes from his sister and parents. Through the essay, Herrick has a chance to express his ideas about family and what family means to him. Everyone has something called a family but whether the definition of the family of each person is the same or not is debatable. I also have my own idea about family which I think is similar to Herrick’s opinions in the essay.

The main objectives in chapter 9 include the ways media attempt to influence people’s attitudes, beliefs, and/or behavior, ways media technology can be disruptive and have adverse effects on behavior, the positive and negative influences of certain kinds of media, such as advertisements or reality television programs, on self-image. Even though media is a great outlet, media has changed our generation causing effects on self-image and human interactions. Because of its pervasiveness in American culture, the media affects people in both obvious and subtle ways. Modern media comes in many different formats, including newspapers, magazines, television, social media, etc.

The Media is a common source that many people continue to use to get important information. Journalists are known for seeking out the truth and making sure the public hears it. When the media presents to their audience the details about popular events it influences the actions and mind set of many which could cause them to react negatively or positively. In the memoir, Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals, the citizens in the town called Little Rock frequently used the media as a way of getting their voices heard. From back in the day to now, the media still holds a high influence on everyone regarding important information down to the common day to day activity of others.

Family structure talks about family arrangement and composition which includes the roles and interactions (Edelman, 2014). According to Minuchin (2012), the family structural theory emphasis on the important of the family structure and its changes that occurs and how the individuals in the family relate collectively over time to put up and accept each other. Minuchin says further that a well-functioning family will choose how to solve and handle the family experience with a positive outcome. The goal of a structural family is to express the strengths in each other in critical moments, and helping each other through it. Developmental theory is the methods used as the viewpoint of family tasking and development through phases of life (Edelman, 2014).

No more interviews.” Even though Hepburn was probably interviewed too many times and asked many questions, most social workers must utilize the interview process to make assessments of their clients. An accurate assessment is critical and significant first step in the social work process.

Modern Family is a popular primetime television show that airs Wednesday nights on ABC. This hit comedy presents the daily lifestyles of three separate but related families who reside in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California. The Dunphys are shown as the traditional white American family while the Pritchett-Tucker family are a homosexual couple with an adopted daughter named Lily. The Pritchetts are the last family who are an interracial couple with a large age gap. On the surface, this show seems to be one of the most diverse on television.

This essay discusses how the family is viewed by two different sociological perspectives- functionalism and conflict theory. Firstly, ‘family’ is defined. Secondly, the main ideas of functionalism will be discussed followed by how this theory perceives the family. The main ideas of Conflict Theory will then be examined and how conflict theorists perceive the family.

Family theories have been used throughout the history of nursing to help guide patient care and provide the best patient outcomes. Certain theories may be more applicable to the specific patient encounter; however, each theory has benefits and drawbacks to their use. The purpose of this paper is to examine two selected theories, comparing their strengths and weaknesses. I will also discuss a theoretical family in relation to one theory, and how that theory can be best integrated into the care provided by an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). Description of Theories

Introduction In this case study, it analyse how the concept of family has changed in the past 20 years as it will be depicting modern family forms and past norms. It is important to look at how families have developed throughout the years up until the 21st century as we compare the two and elaborate on the difference and what makes it so significant. In this case study, it contrast and compare the television series Modern family which is a 21st century concept of family and The Simpsons which was adapted 27 years ago and how things have changed with family dynamics and what is the norm now which was not the norm years ago.

For years people have played the “blame game” with media and its effects on society. It has been questioned whether the media helps or hurts more in its overall impacts. The media consists of magazines, advertisements, TV shows, and social pages such as Instagram, SnapChat, Twitter, and Facebook, all in which society seems to be addicted to. The real question is, is having all of these sources of media positively or negatively affecting society? Some people blame the media for harming society by causing eating disorders and a low self esteem.
