Most Significant Events In The 1920's

While reading this, I was surprised to learn that during the Roaring Twenties, baseball became a popular sport. At the end of WWI, there was a new lifestyle for Americans. They began to enjoy themselves and we saw many social, political, and economic changes. Also during this time alcohol became really popular. Efforts to stop alcohol consumption were attempted.

1. The 1920s was a decade of prosperity, fun and wild living, it was known also as "The Jazz Age". boasting new music, shocking fashions and improvement of life. The innovations behind many inventions that would attract attention in the 1920s, this included many things; radios, motorvehicles, entertainment, and much more. Peripherals such as radio and entertainment were rapid changes in technological advance, people sought out new forms of entertainment such as art, sports, and moving pictures.

Canada’s Major Politics of the 1920’s Many events have occurred in the 1920s examples include Manitoba’s general election, Arthur Meighan becoming Prime Minister,Federal election, the 1922 Chanak affair,the 1923 halibut treaty, 1923 chinese exclusion act, 1926 Balfour Report,1926 Byng Crisis etc. The Manitoba’s general election,was not just an election it was one of the first to introduce different political parties, other than the liberals and Conservatives. Sir Arthur Meighan was a lawyer,businessman & the Prime Minister of Canada.

Throughout all of my years in history class the 1920’s have always been one of the most fascinating decades to learn about. The decade did not gain its nickname “The Roaring Twenties” by being drab and lifeless the whole time. Its stereotypical vibrant culture and exuberant parties can identify the period, however, the end of it marked one of the most devastating times America has ever known: the crashing of the stock market. In order to thoroughly cover the subject Klein introduces the reader to a multitude of important figures, which help better explain what exactly happened from an array of perspectives. Klein first introduces the readers to Charles E. Mitchell or “Sunshine Charley” who was the president of National City Bank.

Throughout the history of America, we as a nation have gone through many unique time periods. Whether it was during the colonial times where we fought for revolution or during the age of Manifest Destiny where we migrated West to fulfill our destiny or when we were battling through the Great Depression to fix and stabilize our economy all of these different times we have been through still bears an impact on our society as a whole today. A time period in specific I will be talking about is the Roaring 20s. The 1920s was an era of social and political change which sent America into the modern age, where for the first time Americans actually lived more in cities than farms. 1920s The 1920s, also known as the "Roaring Twenties", was a decade of great contradictions in American history. From a social/cultural, economic, and political perspective, the 1920s was a time of both progress and setback, freedom and oppression, prosperity, and poverty. On the one hand, the 1920s was a time of social and cultural liberation.

The 1920’s in America is often considered as “The Roaring Twenties. World War I was over, women got suffrage, fashion changed immensely, prohibition was put into place, and jazz filled the air. The Roaring ‘20s was a decade of play and prosperity. Unemployment was low and Americans were better off financially. After World War I, America wanted to return to normal.

When I was child I was very injury prone. One time when I was 8 years old I was trying to climb a playground wall but I fell off of it and sprained my ankle. Eventually the pain of the sprained ankle wore off and the ankle healed and I learned from the experience to stay safer. These experiences are somewhat like the great depression in the fact that a learning experience was made out of a bad situation.

America in the 1920-’s was an age of change. Some may have called this age “The Roaring Twenties”. It was a time of transformation when prohibition, jazz, and migration shaped the American landscape. One issue in particular, however, shook America: racism. A majority of the racial tensions were between the African Americans and the whites.

In the number 5 spot for the most important events in U.S. history in my opinion is The Civil War. I think that because it was an important for america war it took place from 1861 to 1865. It was the war for the survival of the union or the independence for confederacy. It was between the north and the south about slavery and all the other problems that were happening at the time. For the fourth spot on the list I would have to say 9/11.

America experienced a sudden disregard of Victorian values following World War I, causing the generation of the 1920s to dramatically contrast the previous. This severe degree of change produced three major manifestations of the contradictions in the twenties. There were massive conflicts to the Jazz Age, technological advancements, and Black Migration. The contradictions of the 1920s reflect America’s conflicted state between advancement and convention, as the cultural and technological developments of the era coincide with the inability of individuals to stray from traditional norms and racist attitudes.

The culture changed completely in the 20’s, from the women’s right movements to the racial groups that formed and resurfaced such as the Ku Klux Klan, and the religious groups. From the economic crises and the beginning of the great depression, to the ending of WW1 which ended in 1918. Businesses began booming in the early 1920’s, such as Ford building cars cheap and effectively using the moving assembly line, which made more vehicles faster and for cheaper, (Foner). People are partying. The word of money fills in the air. People being miserable everywhere. These events were the daily lifestyle of people living in the 1920’s. The 1920’s was a prosperous time for America after World War I because after the war, the economy raised people’s hopes of being in the upper class.

America moved towards a more modern America by introducing progressivism into the politics of the 1920’s for the first time in history. A dichotomy of the 1920’s was the labor versus capital movement. Laborists, usually people who were a part of the working class, advocated for higher wages, less hours, and overall better working conditions. Capitalists, usually people who were employers and big business owners, wanted to keep their old business practices in place, such as cheap working conditions, low wages, and as many hours as needed. The Labor movement would be considered a progressive ideology while the capital movement the traditional ideology.

Undoubtedly, America has confronted many adversities throughout its history. Moreover, during the course of these challenges America prevailed, and ultimately formed a nation that has the ability to continuously adapt. There exists a myriad of examples that would support this claim; however, this essay will focus on four major events occurring between the 1860’s and 1920’s. The first event is how the American social status changed before and after Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. The second event is how the Civil War played a role in creating a need for Reconstruction, and how Reconstruction culminated in the Industrial Revolution.
