From what I’ve observed in a second grade classroom while doing my Service Learning, I’ve developed a set of goals and objectives for the improvement of motivation and affect for the students who are currently in class. To achieve these outcomes, there are different types of activities. Since there are different types of activities to achieve the expected outcomes, I’ve developed lesson plans to support the identified goals and objectives. First of all, motivation is how much the student aspires to learn. Affect is how the student feels while they are at school. It’s important for the student to be happy to learn because there may be students who are motivated to learn, but are unhappy during their learning experience. There may be a variety …show more content…
During my service learning, the teacher that I helped completed one of these with the students. This activity includes movement while they are learning, it makes learning more exciting. If students are learning about patterns, this is a great way to learn about them by dancing while repeating what the guy is saying aloud. While they did this activity, I noticed that even those students who are really shy and aren’t really engaged were participating and having fun. After the activity, teachers could praise the effort that students put into the …show more content…
SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely. Have them tell you their goals and give them both positive and negative (if it’s not a SMART goal) feedback like “You’re going to accomplish all your goals, but wouldn’t you want to include the date by when you would want to accomplish it by?” Next, to assess or evaluate each activity, teachers should see if students are engaged and eager to learn more. If students are enjoying the activities, they will participate and want to keep on learning. If students are not engaged in the activity that is intended to improve motivation, try to incorporate something they like and give students choices of what they would like to do. In conclusion, motivation and affect should be improved within students in the classroom. In order to be successful, students must be motivated and excited to learn. Since improving motivation and affect is important, there are a set of goals and objectives to improve it. To achieve the outcome of improving motivation and affect, teachers should include activities that are interactive, fun, and include movement. In addition, to assess and evaluate the activities chosen, teachers should see if students look like they want to know more and if they are actively
I’m choosing the Service Learning Project and how it connects to the three articles. The Service Learning Project is going to talk to students are education and how its important for their future. In William Cronon’s Only Connect article is about freedom and growth in educations, and how students should have different opportunities and that they should have a say in what classes they take. Also why its important to have an education. This connects with the project that in my Service Learning Project I’m going to be talking to students about the importance of educations and how it should be your choice.
A concern that teachers have is how to get their students motivated and engage in their learning on a day to day basis. Teachers realize that if a student is finding joy in their overall learning, they are more likely to continue being motivated and excel in their academic success. Students need to be motivated and remain engaged in the learning process, thus they find joyful learning. Sometimes it 's up to the teacher to motivate the children and motivation is critical to promote joyful learning. By teaching the students to have a growth mindset, teachers make sure there are four components to keep a student engaged and motivated: "attentiveness (they pay attention
I just wanted to say I think I 'm going to go with the service learning track because I learn more so by hands on activities and I 'm not always very sociable so I think it would shift my perspective to be learning in a position that I 'm not normally used to now that said I don 't plan to use this learning track as some weird way to become an extrovert the fact is I 'm more of an introvert and I am who I am and I don 't plan to change that and I don 't think I could anyways I think the service learning track would be a better way (for me at least) to learn sociology through experience that is
I had the opportunity to spend my service learning hours with an amazing young lady by the name of Paige. Paige is 25 years old and has a twin brother and a younger brother who she recently lost to suicide. It affected her deeply and she now battles depression. Paige was born premature, 3 months before her due date and weighed in at a whopping .??ounces. From the gate Paige had complications and had open heart surgery at ?
In this memo, I will be giving you the opportunity to consider the Supported Learning Groups that UFV offers to student engagement and enhance student learning. UFV defines student engagement as... When students are engaged in tasks while in and out of the class, they increase success and enhance their learning. Supported Learning Groups known as ‘SLGs’ are study sessions and lectures led by trained senior students who has completed the same course successfully. They facilitate other students improve study skills and succeed in a proven difficult course.
It is a good idea to discuss with the teacher about the learning outcomes, and the ways to carry out an activity beforehand. The support practitioners can make notes and observations during the activity and then provide feedback
When happy, one becomes content in the current position, no longer feeling the need to persevere. When a student is happy while taking a test they will be content in not finishing, but after having a bad morning the student will try to finish the test and get the best grade. Anger and other negative emotions help fuel the need for selfimprovement. When happy there is a loss of perseverance because satisfaction is the only feeling. The University of Illinois studied and concluded that “too much happiness” can lead to negative effects and be “not such a good thing” (Begley 454).
Motivation at school is an important factor because our learners are young and what they need is an experienced person, a facilitator or a motivator who is going to lead them towards the road of success. Since, they are inexperienced they will have to be trained to become mentally, physically and emotionally strong. In relation to Physical Education, Motivation is the key for successful teaching and learning to take place. It can be said that winning things can be very important because if an athlete keeps on training and there is no positive results, then this can affect the mental status. This is why extrinsic motivation is important.
Through this activity, the teachers assure that the learners are able to participate fully in the curriculum. As the supports given by the teacher the learners allow them to transfer their skills and knowledge to
I think that many students lack the enthusiasm to learn materials that hold little meaning to them. I attempt to encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment for those who I work with by identifying their interests and incorporating these interests into the lessons I am trying to teach. As an educator, I also serve the role of a motivator, a person who finds that thing which makes abstract ideas morph into tangible and observable skills. I believe that if students can find ways to incorporate their interests into different areas of their education, whether that be learning mathematics or behavior management, each student can achieve greater success in concept
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
A good way I saw a teacher trying to keep her students engaged was giving them a time limit for how long they had to do the assignment before they had to present their results or move on to the next activity. I observed a kindergarten class and they are always changing activities to keep the students involved and entertained. I observed two classes that sang songs about the day, month, and year at the beginning of class. One of the classes I observed even used sign language as they sang the songs.
The motivational psychology researchers discovered several useful approaches and practices that can be implemented in the classroom for effective learning to take place (Miller, 2012). Teachers are using differentiation to support teaching and learning. Differentiation can vary in pace, activities, resources, teaching and learning styles in an attempt to best meet the needs of individual student. Various teaching strategies such as cooperative learning, active learning, role play and games and pedagogic tools are being integrated in educational theories in meaningful and useful ways to encourage task or learning achievements.
Although the lesson plan’s primary objective is to improve the overall quality of teaching to benefit students, this also improves teacher motivation and development. This is achieved through using the lesson plan as a permanent record of lessons taught. In the case where the lesson has been
Also, rewards and feedback play a role in an individual’s motivation. Opportunities for self-direction such as the recognition of feelings and choices are said to create a greater feeling of autonomy or self-determination. It has been found that in students, they tend to have greater intrinsic motivation
