What components are most important to a healthy relationship? Some argue that spending time together, being forgiving, and showing affection for each other create the best partnerships, and these elements may be necessary. However, the most vital piece in the puzzle of a good relationship is communication. Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare proves that conversation is essential to a positive relationship. This theme is shown by the relationships of Hero and Claudio, Beatrice and Benedick, and Don Pedro and Don John.
Claudio and Hero’s issues with trust could have been prevented with clear communication. When Don John tells Claudio that Hero has been cheating on him, the thought of discussing the problem with Hero doesn't even cross

As the illegitimate brother, Don John is bitter about not receiving any inheritance; however, he never tells anyone about his feelings or other opinions. As Beatrice says, “[Don John] is too like an image, and says nothing (Act II, Scene i).” Because Don John never communicates, Don Pedro can’t tell how negative Don John’s outlook is, and therefore cannot comfort him or make him feel welcome in social circles. However, the lack of serious discussion between the brothers is not all Don John’s fault, because Don Pedro doesn't make much effort to converse with Don John--at least not on stage.
Roman philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca said, “One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood.” The only way to truly understand another person is to communicate with them. Three different partnerships in Much Ado About Nothing show that interaction is vital to a healthy relationship. Humans need communication in all stages of an alliance, whether they are future friends saying “hello” for the first time or old comrades catching up after a long separation. Without communication, there is no relationship at
conflict with the character is the that Don John is jealous of his brother. And hates him and tries to ruin the wedding and marriage. So he makes a plane to ruin it and it works and Claudio shames hero at the altar and hero assumably died. And when she was proven innocent claudio
In Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Don John serves as the foil character of Don Pedro by which Don Pedro’s valorous strengths are illuminated through Don John’s belligerent weaknesses; thus, interminably influences the conflict in the plot. Needless to say, Don Pedro and Don John are the antithesis of one another, for Don Pedro is consistently playing peacemaker in Don John’s diabolic schemes which carries the plot through a rollercoaster of conflict. Don Pedro highly values his victorious army, especially Claudio, the war-hero. In fact, Claudio is responsible for keeping Don John from gaining power over his brother. As a result, Don John makes it his duty to destroy Claudio, admitting that he is determined to “cross him any
It is an intrinsic battle that takes place over the course of the play, but comes to a head during the concluding moments, in which Claudio is deceived by his apprehensions of marriage into rejecting Hero, showing that perhaps he prides his honor above the love he so freely professes. Hero is placed in the uncomfortable position of being rejected by nearly everybody she cares for, necessitating that she fake her demise and be reborn as a new woman, resurrected from the grave and cleansed of the impurities she was accused of. Benedick and Beatrice have both pledged never to find love, and therefore must remove the guises behind which they labor- for indeed, both characters desire love, but hide their wish for fear of being rejected. In each instance, past beliefs must be discarded in the name of securing future happiness, which causes consternation in each individual. In the case of Benedick, he is forced to challenge his best friend to a duel in order to win the hand of his lover- an appendage of the central conflict, which is the inner battle between love and personal reservations which takes precedence over life and death (at least for the Christ-figure maiden
Trickery and deceit is the way of life. But love somehow played a huge part in Much Ado About Nothing, simply because this story was full of conflicts that soon became solutions because of the fact that trickery and deceit was used as a plan that changed everything of a lifetime. The wonders of trickery and deceit lie across the storyline of the real question of what it really means?.In other words a little white lie sums up what trickery is, But persuasion is another saying of deceit.
This is a quote that shows how Don John likes Claudio’s company as a friend, yet when Don John tries to ruin Claudio and Hero’s wedding, their relationship is ruined. It is important to prioritize friends over mischievous desires. This play has many messages and life lessons that can be learned while reading. From each character foil there are many new opportunities to learn. From Don John and Don Pedro we learned that friends are more important than getting back at someone.
The audience may understand the concept of love and romance flowing within the characters because it was to portrayed that way but the critics would argue the fact that some of the characters like Beatrice and Benedick were made to fall in love with each other through deception. As simple as the characters were, the situations arousing in the play became more complexed as scenes passed by. What led to the trouble and chaos in the play also led to the solution in the end, when Claudio and Don Pedro were deceived into thinking by Don John that Hero was unfaithful. That very same idea also solved the problem in the end when Leonato, Hero’s father, deceived Claudio by making him believe that she is dead and that it is his duty to clear Hero’s name by reading out on her tomb and marrying the said niece who looks just like Hero. Again the plotting against own is present where the said niece turns out to be Hero and she comes back to life again.
This is betrayal because he was suppose to love Hero and that means hearing her out no matter what happens, but instead he shamed her in front of everyone. Don John also says, ““For thee I'll lock up all the gates of love, And on my eyelids shall conjecture hang, To turn all beauty into thoughts of harm, And never shall it more be gracious.” (4.1.110-113). With the phrase, “For thee I’ll lock up all the gates of love” the reader can tell that Claudio has closed himself up from love because he is accusing Hero of cheating. This is betrayal as well because Claudio is not hearing Hero out and instead of listening to her he is going based off of what he’s
Don Jhon had lied, and Tricked Claudio to think that Hero was cheating on him with another man. However, This man happened to be Don John’s partner in crime, Borachio< who instead of wooing Hero, was wooing Margeret who was Hero’s maid. This lie would be interpreted to be a “Lie to
Claudio, Hero and Don Pedro all realize how perfect Beatrice and Benedick are together and so they set up a plan to deceive the two of them into falling in love. Don Pedro comes up with the plan to be having Benedick eavesdropping on Don Pedro, Leonato and Claudio chatting about how much Beatrice is secretly in love with Benedick. Just as they expected , their plan goes off without a hitch. After the group is done talking and they all leave, Benedick comes out of hiding and start talking about what he just heard and realizes that he is in love with Beatrice. “I will be horribly in love wit her.”
The word deceit means to take action or practice deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth. In the novel Much Ado About Nothing, a theme of deceit is constantly present, and appears in many different forms. Deceit is used not only for wicked purposes, but mainly for good intentions. In Shakespeare's novel deception is used to initiate and continue the play's plot, by using the masking of characters, faking death and various other forms of deception to demonstrate how true deception can be in our lives. Deception can often be used to mask a certain identity for a particular reason.
Claudio constantly chooses to act disrespectful and petty towards those he has issues with. Instead of acting like a grown man, he acts like a child, which is why his relationship with Hero will not
Much Ado About Nothing revolves around the manipulation and deceptions. Benedict and Beatrice are deceived for their own good. Claudio is tricked into thinking that Hero isn't as innocent as she claims to be, just for the amusement of a villainous character. Have Hero not deceived Claudio, she wouldn't of never won him back. Thus, comes to show that deception was used to lead to the live and romance of each
Claudio asks Don Pedro to win him Hero’s favor, At the Masquerade Ball and convince Leonato to approve a marriage
Shakespeare reveals the theme that people deceive others out of love, embarrassment, and hatred. All evidence comes from Much Ado About Nothing. Love makes people act less rationally than they would normally behave. In this case, Claudio has fallen in love with Leonato’s daughter, Hero. In this love-dazed state, Claudio seems thoroughly confused at Don Pedro’s plan to win Hero over on his behalf, due to being lied to about the actual plan by Don John.
Effective relationships should be a common goal for all to strive for. The learner believes that there are four major signs that make us human; the need to love, the need to be loved, the need to be accepted and the need to be respected as an individual. None of these things can be accomplished alone, therefore, a relationship needs to be formed. The more effective the relationship the more these needs are able to be met. In the study of marriage and family we look into the areas that can either make or break relationships.
