About 18 years ago, I became a part of my parents life. As usual, they taught me basic discipline, defense, leadership and more. My family is from Hispanic heritage, where completing a college education is not expected for the future. As a result, my parents enforced the importance of education, and encouraged me to graduate high school and further my education by attending the college of my choice. In addition, I have recently graduated high school with Honors, and it was an incredible feeling being able to make my parents proud knowing that I am the first Honor graduate even in my extended family.
Today, I am now on my path to start working hard for my future career, in which I will be passionate about to be able to do my best always.
Meanwhile, during my early years I discovered I loved music and it came to me naturally. Ever since I could remember, I was the singer in the family. Later on, I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge and learn how to play different instruments, starting the 6th grade I began to learn the Violin, then throughout the years up until my Senior

In a family where no one has surpassed the first two years of college, I feel a spotlight is on me to not only finish, but also finish strong. I know how proud my family will be of my accomplishment and how rewarding it will be for me trying to obtain a decent job in the
I have always been a particularly musical person. When I was younger, I wanted to become a singer when I grew up, but upon joining the choir in elementary I realized I did not have the talent for singing that I thought I had. Continually singing off key and never sounding as good as my peers did, I decided to confine myself to singing at home where only my family could hear me. Despite this revelation that I was, in fact, a terrible singer, I still wanted to participate in some type of musical performance and decided to join the band in middle school. After trying out various different instruments, I settled on the flute and quickly fell in love.
My family has always been the center of my universe. They’ve taught me the importance of being united and taking care of one another—because in the end, all we truly have is each other. My parents have raised me to be a good daughter, sister, and citizen. They’ve shaped me to be respectful, responsible, and virtuous, knowing these values will last a lifetime. But above all, my parents have instilled in me an appreciation and eagerness for education.
My mother and father have always wanted the best for me, like all good parents do. One of the many things that they expect from me is to receive a college education, something that they never had the chance to do. My parents always advise me to not to make the same mistakes as they did, to go to college so I can get a good job and not have to struggle in my life. With no alternative, my father had to drop out of school to help his family financially after his parents had gotten a divorce, and then he had received his GED.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
In this case, I have to do it for my family because they all believe in me, I have to do it because I promised my mom a house, and better life for both of us. I have to keep my word, but beside these promises, I want to conquer a better life. I don’t want to get paid minimum wage, I want to have a job that I like doing and maintain a family with that same job. Receiving this scholarship would motivate me more and make those proud who support
I have decided to pursue nursing and apply for the second degree accelerated nursing program; I consider myself a highly motivated individual with a value of strong work ethic. I can certainly distinguish myself as a person with numerous interests, a range of skills and goals. My Goals are to become a highly skilled nurse, work for the united state military and help save lives. Just like my father, I would love to provide a great humanitarian service, not for the pay or the glory or the recognition but to save lives, give hope, provide care, love and touch
As I begin my college education, I want to continue doing my best in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a registered nurse. With the scholarship money I can have the peace of mind of solemnly focusing on college. Students who have to work to continue their education have trouble focusing on school and do not have the extra time to study or go to tutoring sessions. In many cases, having to work while attending college usually leads to failing or dropping the class due to extra stress and the idea of income. As well, this scholarship will give me more time to focus on my education and to continue my volunteer work helping the
I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.
My educational goal is to earn a degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in hopes of getting a job inside the laboratory department at Kaiser. Based on labs that I have already done at the University, I found that I enjoy working in a similar setting. I would love to have the opportunity to shadow a connoisseur in a similar work environment, as it would be a valuable learning experience. I come from a low-income family in Oakland, California. The economic barrier that has restricted my family has prevented us from moving out from where we live.
My teacher quickly got frustrated that was wasting my talent and decided to let me go. Then, a couple summers later I started guitar but since I did not stick with it after summer it did not last long Growing up the music culture around me was always very strong. So, when I stopped playing an instrument it was almost not heard when eight of cousins on my Dad 's side play some kind of instrument. They are also all huge Irish step dancers.
Since then, I have learned many new instruments such as the guitar, saxophone, the bass, drums, and the trumpet. Music is just something that comes naturally to me and on every Christmas, i make it a point to get something music related even though i 'm pretty sure my mom is getting sick of it. I grew up with music and it grew up with me which is shown through the many musical phases that i had. I had an Eminem phase, Punk-Rock phase, Alternative phase and many more (well, except country because, lets face it, country music is pretty bad). Simply put, as i gradually became the person i am today, music has reflected my character better than any other.
My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward and had few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. I learned to play the violin and bass guitar with immense resolve. I mastered scales, practiced arpeggio 's until my fingers bled, and meticulously studied great composers.
I grew up engulfed in music. My father often speaks of how I began singing at a young age, something I developed a passion for.
However, I am currently most involved with voice and piano. My dedication to music can be seen in that I founded and led an acapella group. In addition, I maintain a page where I post covers of songs; over the years it has grown to have just over seven thousand followers. Because of my passion for music, I felt it only made sense for me to continue fostering my musical growth during my college journey.
