In Bill Wasik’s article, “My Crowd Experiment: The Mob Project,” he recounts how he united a substantial amount of people together for an unidentified cause. He analyzes how the power of social media and different cultural conditions can affect society at large. Wasik fabricated the flash mob idea initially from pure boredom. He was able to grasp people’s attention to participate in an unusual action located in a public place. His social experiment is a phenomenon that is made possible from modern communications in technology. With social media we are able to interpret things in various ways, spread ideologies, and scrutinize behaviors. Technology has enabled new ways of measuring ourselves. “In a meme’s-eye view of the world, any idea – from religious belief or a political affiliation to a new style of jeans or a catchy tune – can be seen as a sort of independent agent loosed into the population, where it travels from mind to mind, burrowing into each, colonizing all as widely and ruthlessly as it can” (Wasik, 479). The evolution of Wasik’s very original kind of performance was all made due to our ability to discover the importance of individuality. With technology people alienate themselves from one another. Wasik’s experiment created a sense of community, transformed methods of communication, and allowed those participating a moment of freedom and to experience forms of
Sherry Turkle has quite an interesting view on today`s “wired” world and the concept of being alone together. Therefore, the author is clearly convinced that the world of technology has deprived us of some of the most basic social skills. Although technology can literally grant us unlimited access to the information of the world in which we live today, I too consider that technology does represent a danger on the way we use to socialize before and now. As a result, Turkle does a marvelous job of introducing her beliefs as well as what it could be consider strong evidence to convince her readers making her argument a reasoning sound. It is quite clear that the author showcases Ethos by displaying clear evidence on both areas; logos and ethos.
In "Strange Creatures," Susan Blackmore mentions the notion of "Successful Memes" and "Unsuccessful Memes," but does not go in detail to explain what really makes a meme successful or unsuccessful. However, through Malcolm Gladwell 's "Small Change" Why the revolution will not be tweeted," we are able to interpret in detail that what really distinguishes a successful meme from an unsuccessful meme. Gladwell 's essay provides solid evidence of successful memes when he mentions the Greensboro lunch counter encounter and the lost cell phone case. Furthermore, the phenomena of "Strong-ties" and "Weak-ties" help us better understand why memes are successful in being transmitted. Along with that, the timing of carrying out a meme is significant

In fact, people are still able to bond using technology, it can help people to keep in touch, and it can be used to help people cherish what is important to them. As long as humans do not abuse it, electronics can simply be used as a new way to interact with one another. Unlike the outcomes of “The Veldt” and “The Pedestrian”, technology does not have to consume or ruin lives. People should encourage one another to use the modern items at their disposal without uninformed cynics claiming that they are living life
The comparison of Douglas Adam’s novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy written in 1979 and James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar examines the consequences of valuing technology and a transformation of an individual through self-actualisation. Despite the difference in the transition from the 1970s, the beginning of modern computing to the 21st century, the period of Digital Revolution and the increasing rise in Third World consumerism, some aspects of human nature remain consistent. Both texts explore similar aspects of humanity including humanity’s propensity to depend on technology, and individuals achieving self-actualisation and realising their potentialities they may emerge from the personal experiences they encounter. Thus, as texts reflect on their context, it is evident that human nature remains consistent throughout different contexts.
