A Chauvin woman who was stabbed to death at a Grand Isle beach Sunday was a generous woman who loved photography and gardening, and did everything she could for her three kids despite being an amputee, her sister-in-law said. Jennifer Dozier was at the beach near Cypress Lane around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a fight broke out between her and her boyfriend of nearly two years, Randy Paul Marcel, of Pine Street in Chauvin, police said. The fight, which witnesses say started over drugs or cigarettes, culminated in Dozier, 34, being stabbed the multiple times in the neck and torso, said Glen Boyd, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office public information officer. Initially, Estrella is immediately characterized as “very angry” when she finds Perfecto’s “foreign” toolbox. She uses a tone of confusion that illustrates her unfamiliarity with the objects in the tool box by using words such as “funny-shaped”, and using a simile comparing her confusion with the tools to the alphabet which Estrella “could not decipher”.

The author uses figurative language and selection of detail to show the changes Estrella’s character went through, which reveals that knowing what things are is beneficial. The author uses figurative language like similes and metaphors to show Estrella’s frustration with her teacher and her understanding of tools. The author says, “ all that a jumbled steel inside the box… seemed as confusing and foreign as the alphabet she could not decipher.”

Estelle usually got the men she wanted and many other things she wished for such as riches. Sartre characterizes her as a person full of lust, with lust meaning when someone longs for or has a strong passion for someone. She experienced lust in Hell and in her life, exemplified by when she was married to an older man, but had an affair with a younger man named Roger that resulted in her becoming pregnant. She “went to Switzerland for five months” with Roger and although it “did not please” her to become a mother, she wanted to experience lust with Roger, so she killed her daughter after she was born (28). Then she went back to her husband and he “never suspected anything”(28).

The news of Tempie’s death shook Ella greatly. Shortly following her mother’s death, Ella was taken in by Tempie’s sister Virginia. After moving, Ella had a hard time adjusting to her new surroundings and became unhappy eventually starting to skip school frequently thus causing her grades to drop. It was at this time that she got into trouble with the police and was sent to a reform school. However, things got even worse for Ella while she was in the reform school as she often suffered beatings from those in charge.

Jeannette Walls in The Glass Castle and her siblings had a lot of trouble fitting in and trying to avoid being bullied. When Jeannette lived in Welch, West Virginia, as always, her family didn’t have money. Jeannette lived a poor life because of this; she never got the nicest shoes, got the nicest clothes that made her look cool, or be considered the cleanest person in the school since she didn’t take a shower because of the lack or running water in her house. Jeannette often had to eat the leftover food from a trash can that people would throw away because her family couldn’t provide her food. The first girl she met at Welch was Dinitia, and she bullied her because she was poor.

In Maria Viramontes’ Under the Feet of Jesus Estrella is a confused, angry girl who is attempting to figure everything out. Estrella is unable to figure anything out without the help of Perfecto Flores, but with his help she is able to create some understanding about the importance of education and becomes less angry. Viramontes uses tone and figurative language to help show Estrella’s growth and development. The beginning of the passage has an angry tone.

In this essay, I will be talking about all the hardships that Lyddie had to push through and how bad their lives were back then. Many young girls, working as young as ten, had many harsh conditions already. Starting in chapter 3, which was the cutler's tavern, Lyddie got her first job. Even in the beginning, you could tell it was going to be a harsh time for the rude comments given by the owner. For example, “ “Go along” the woman was saying.

In this world, there’s learning things the hard way and the easy way; in Jeannette Wall’s world, there’s only learning things the hard way. The Glass Castle is an adventurous story that reveals the painfully miserable story of Jeannette Walls. A selfish mother, a careless father, and terrible social encounters- these are some of the elements of a harsh reality Rex and Rose Mary Walls failed to shield their children from. Growing up poor was already difficult, but growing up with a selfish parent, specifically an unfeeling mom, made life hell for the Walls children. The family barely had one source of income from Rex Walls, and instead of helping out with the family’s finance issues, Rose Mary spent her days at home painting.

With the French education she received, her childhood was marked by the success of her intelligence. However, she quickly came to learn how nothing she could do would allow her to fit in better or be better respected than the Europeans there. For instance, she describes a particularly sad day in her childhood when one day, she learned what her successes meant: "Never had the distance between the school and home seemed so long. In a few short seconds, I had just lost my best friend and my innocence. I suddenly realized that neither my excellent grades throughout my schooling - the result of all my efforts and my ability to assimilate to the French language and culture - nor my more comfortable social standing compared to Roselyne, the European.
