English Composition: How My Writing Background Has Prepared Me For the Real World The word flourish means to grow and develop vigorously within an environment. This is a good way to demonstrate how my writing has evolved throughout this course. Coming into this composition class, I saw writing as a form of expression, but I struggled with how to put my feelings into words on a paper. Writing has never been easy for me because I always thought writing was about what to say and doing so in the right way. Looking back now, I was wrong. Within the duration of this semester, I have learned that writing is a way to express feelings and so much more. Writers can talk about upcoming projects, life

This may sound a bit out of line, but it is true. Once I began to see writing as a conversation and not a perfect piece of paper I was able to break through and have an epiphany. I was able to express myself because instead of trying to find the right words to say, I was turning my feelings into the words themselves. I was being vulnerable to making mistakes and teaching myself that we are human: the best face to put forward is an honest one. After this breakthrough, I was able to improve my writing by: connecting with my audience, using rhetorical appeals, and learning self-criticism. By applying these skills, my writing has improved tremendously. I feel my writing has more informative content, positive intention, and leaves the reader with a good feeling. Moving forward, I plan to be a business major in college. During college, I will have to write many papers, and thanks to this course I feel very prepared. As I go through college, I will have to be personable as a business major and this course has provided me with that skill. When working for or owning a business connecting with your customers is the most important facet. Within this course, I learned how important it is to form a relationship with your audience. If a customer does not have their full trust in me it will not be easy for me to do business with them, and it will be hard for me to succeed as a business owner. Before forming a relationship with my customers, I must sell them with my case. Luckily, I have been taught rhetorical appeals to put prospective customers on my side! There are three different types of appeals: pathos, ethos, and logos. This means that I have three different plans of actions which is ideal because no customer is the exact same. I can use pathos to show emotion and how much I care about knowing my clients and doing business with them. Then, ethos comes into play with my statistics and how credible I am to my work. Lastly, logos can be used to show prospects that I am the best offer! These appeals can help in the business world, but also connect to numerous situations. I can use pathos to bond with a coworker or ethos to show that I am the right
Emily Dickson Ms. Neil LA-B3 9 January 2023 Time flies by This school year has flown by like no other. I just started this class, and now we are halfway through it. There have been tons of rollercoastering too; Mentally, physically, and intellectually. One thing I feel that has been a rollercoaster is my writing progress. Writing has never come easy to me, and I wasn’t sure how much it had improved until I thought about it.
Throughout my schooling, I initially was not a strong writer. But, after taking
Writing is a fundamental skill that is essential for success in college and beyond. However, the transition from high school to college writing can be difficult, as the expectations and demands of college-level writing are vastly different from those of high school writing. In her essay “From High School to College: Developing Writing,” Virginia Crank discusses the struggles associated with this transition and offers advice on how to successfully navigate it. In addition to that, Donald Murray, in his book Teach Writing as a Process Not Product, argues that the struggle associated with writing is not only normal but also necessary to produce quality work. By looking at their perspectives, I will identify a single idea that both authors suggest
While writing to a family member, I felt like I had to be reassuring that I wasn’t wasting my time at college. But at the same time, I could be more relaxed with my writing. By doing this exercise, I have realized that I’m comfortable writing to my friends and family, but I’m not quite yet comfortable writing for the
Writing is an essential part of an individual’s success. Writing comes in many forms, and it is not only used in an English course. It can be an email to a college professor, a resume, a lab report, a hotel review, etc. There are countless forms are writing, and it is important to understand how to approach each piece of writing. Writing is part of an individual’s daily life, and understanding the importance of rhetorical knowledge, genre knowledge, and audience awareness with make it easier to approach different types of writing, and ultimately improve one’s writing skills.
Through the class, I learned how to effectively brainstorm and develop my ideas to create compelling pieces. Another key is feedback. Receiving feedback is an essential part of the writing process. Through the class, I learned how to give and receive feedback constructively, which has helped me improve my writing skills significantly. With
With my written essays, I simply revised the essays as I wrote. So, I assert that this course has helped me learn to manage my writing efforts a bit
I am now able to see the areas in which I lack in but I also recognize my strengths as well. To become a precise writer, you have to take the initiatives that will help you do so. These initiatives consist of working on different academic genres, planning and organizing material, identifying purpose and audience and for revising intentionally. It is also includes reading different types of texts and learning how to understand a writer’s argument and respond to the ideas of others.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
Expressive writing is a tool that people can utilize now and for the rest of their lives. It teaches people how to express themselves and understand how they can use their current situation to overcome future stressful situations. Ciotti explains that writing about a certain topic for a period of time allows people to “build off of older thoughts” and utilize life kong ideas that were previously written down. Cruder, when asked how writing about traumatic events motivates her says, “writing inspires me to not let upsetting life events control me.” Writing has the same effect on many others as well.
The process of learning to write can conjure a wide range of emotions and sensations, from frustration and confusion to excitement and accomplishment. As we develop our writing skills, we experience a journey of growth and self-discovery, often facing challenges along the way that can ultimately lead to deeper understanding and greater self-confidence. Whether through creative expression or the mastery of academic writing conventions, the act of writing provides a powerful outlet for personal and intellectual development. The feeling of learning to write is therefore one of ongoing challenge, growth, and self-expression, a journey that is both deeply personal and universally transformative.
I am not a really good writer myself because of some of the experiences that I have dealt with in the past. Writing for me has always been a difficult thing. Ever since I was in my 7th grade my English classes started to get harder and harder to the point that I would cry at nights since I always wanted to aim for the A’s in all of my classes, and well the fact that I would always end up getting a high B in my English class would really get to my nerves. Besides that, knowing the fact that I had to take and pass my writing TAKS exam in middle school would stress me even more.
As mentioned by countless authors before me and numerous authors who will follow me, the greatest obstacle within “writing has always been getting started” (Rockquemore). When the time comes that I must write, it all begins with perspective. If I am to write something worth more than being an untitled document left to disappear within the file storage of my computer, I must approach writing with rose-colored glasses. All throughout my academic career, writing has always carried a negative connotation behind it.
Writing is not just about coming up with ideas and jotting them down on paper saying that it is your story because if it is then it is half done, and readers would not want to read what you have to say about how you feel on an experience that you have explored. Writing is about going through experiences and jotting those experiences down on paper and putting them in order so that the reader can understand what experiences you went through to get to the point that you have come to. Writing is a way to write you feel and to make it easy so that you do not have to speak what is on your mind. In my opinion writing can be my favorite thing to do because I like to write but when it comes to me speaking, I get nervous and do not know what to say when I get in front of a crowd. Writing can also be a way to get out of things such as if you want to break up with someone, tell your parents something that is bad that you do not want to tell them in person, talk to a doctor in a message just in case if your friends are
There are other areas in my writing that I have improved on. I have improved on my grammar, verb constructions, use of verb tenses and organizational skills to make my writing flow better when reading. My overall progress in completing this ten weeks course was wonderful. Every steps and skills I learned in this English class will help me to improve on my writing skills in my other classes and will also help me in my future
