Native American Influence On Louisiana

The United States Government formally recognizes over five hundred tribes within the fifty states. These recognized tribes are qualified for funding and other various services through grants and contracts with the government along with other sources. The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians represents one of the federally recognized tribes in the United States. Located in eight reservation communities throughout Mississippi, it consists of almost 10,000 registered members. Throughout the past couple of years, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has faced several financial burdens regarding funding for the tribe.

One of these reasons is that mainly the people that were there just did not want to settle there. The bigger towns or cities were at the trading posts. Usually only men traveled across the ocean to get to the Americas to go to the land controlled by France. Their wives and children stayed back in France, so it was very difficult to bring new people there. Many decided to stay along the St. Lawrence river were all the trading was going on.

The Mississippian Indians lived settled lives as they were organized into chiefdoms, which were a form of a political organization united under a leader and organized by families or differing social rank and class. Social ranking and class served as a fundamental part of their structure as people belonged to one of two groups, the elites or commoners. Many families laid under commoners, where men and women played specific roles in the social organization. The Mississippian indian women were “horticulturalists” who grew much of their food in small gardens and cultivated agricultural plants such as corns, beans, squash, sunflowers, and sumpweed. Traditionally, women would raise these crops and prepare food for daily meals.

It has always been an enigma as to why the various European Empires of England, France and others tried to colonize North America. The distance between North America and Europe was quite vast, and there were abundant resources in South America. In addition, the first attempts by these European Empires to colonize North America ended in failure as the North American winters were too harsh, resulting in many settlers not surviving their first winters there. However, it was very important that these colonial powers did not abandon the idea of colonizing North America.

The way the government handled issues during land ordinance was handled in a positive way, but it had a negative impact on the native Americans. The colonies were getting overcrowded and there were less job opportunities for people so many decided to move out. The Native American land had been taken away from them, they were wiped out of their homes and it did involve violence. The map shows how much the colonist had expanded their land into the native American land. On the bright side the land the land had provided many affordable homes for people like the township.

In 1803 is when the United States would makes its next move toward expanding westward across North America. It would be in this year that the United States would purchase the land known as the Louisiana Territory from the French for less than three cents an acre. The total purchase price was $15,000,000, a combination of $11,250,000 and a cancellation of debts totaling $3,750,000, and at the same rate with inflation included would have cost $236,000,000 today .

To become strong, people would have to learn how to become one and work together. Throughout the United States, there is a group of American Indians called Chippewa and they are a unique group of American Indians and they hold a unique story behind them. The Chippewa tribe was one of the original group from the time of development in the New World ("Chippewa Indians." Ohio). The tribe of Indians is very large, but now they are scattered throughout the United States. The two main locations that they mostly are in and had influenced most are up north near Canada and west of the United States ("Chippewa Indians."

Americans were looking for new land, so they traveled West. The land of the United States was only to the Mississippi River. On the west side of the Mississippi was the Louisiana Territory. This area belonged to spain. The Louisiana Territory went from the Mississippi River all the way to New Orleans.

The Environments shape had a part in forming Native American cultures and civilizations. Native Americans would used the surrounding land around them and the environment to suit their needs, they believed in respecting nature and any changes in it would result in a change for them to. The season determined how crops would grow, they were able to adjust their diets and food gathering skills to survive those changing seasons. Native Americans eventually developed an agriculture system based on: corn, beans, and squash, more commonly known as “three-sister” farming. This diet provided by the clever farming technique resulted in high population densities.

In the 18th century, France controlled more of the United States than any other European power. Frances control spread from New Orleans to the Great Lakes. Spain, which was not as a powerful force, decided to rescind its help to the Louisiana purchase, and eventually led Spain to sign a treaty with France. Spain gave France control of the Louisiana Purchase. That is why there is so much French and Spanish influence in New Orleans.

The Westward Expansion all started when America made the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. There were many benefits from the purchase for the US that the French didn’t realize before they sold it. The purchase gave the US access to the Mississippi river which allowed for expansion of river trade to the North and South from the center of the US. The port city of New Orleans was bought by the US and its prosperity benefited the US greatly. The US sent Lewis and Clark west to investigate the land they purchased.

Religion and Colonization In the New World was oportunity for all Europe, Spaniards, English, Portuguese, and even French. This new continent was able do give them gold, silver, wood, even a commercial trade route to China, or just an equality on their societies. But there was too many ways to atach the success way, those ways were in fact leaded by the religion.

Native Americans flourished in North America, but over time white settlers came and started invading their territory. Native Americans were constantly being thrown and pushed off their land. Sorrowfully this continued as the Americans looked for new opportunities and land in the West. When the whites came to the west, it changed the Native American’s lives forever. The Native Americans had to adapt to the whites, which was difficult for them.

Europe, such as Spain, France, and England, have had different language, culture, political system, religion and more, which they developed by themselves in their civilization. In the late 1400s to 1500s, Europeans started the colonization and economic competitions each other between countries to get more assets since their resources and lands were limited and not enough. At that time, Spaniards and French had the same purpose for exploring the New World such as pursuing wealth, winning the economic competition, but they approached to Native Americans in different ways. The difference between these two countries when they encounter with Indians was the relationship with Native Americans. Spanish and Christopher Columbus were too absorbed on finding golds and slaves to make a thriving trade when Spain discovered the new land and met Native Americans.

When more and more people came from different countries to collect the riches that Columbus had found, neighboring countries felt the urge to send residents on a permanent voyage to discover the riches like Christopher Columbus had done. It wasn’t just two or three countries who followed this mechanism either In the French colonial regions, they were focused on trade, specifically of fur with the natives. While the French were focused on trade, a large portion of their income came from fish. Along with that, farming developed, mainly to provide support.
