Initially, when I first walked into class, I had no respect for writing papers or the class. However, as the weeks progressed and the weeks went by, I’ve slowly gained the respect that English deserves. While it is still fairly difficult for me to formulate my thoughts and turn them into cohesive, well-structured sentences and paragraphs, I now know that most of what I write now is so much better than what my writing was when we initially started. It is through practice and revision that my writing has improved. The moment we walked into class, we were faced with the first assignment, “Native Americans: Before and After.” I pondered the significance this assignment had to do with the class, as it seemed pointless at first glance. Looking at it now, however, it did a lot. The whole exercise possessed an allegorical meaning; it not only taught us about Native Americans, but it also connected us with their story. It showed us how Native Americans gained a voice and it also put us in their shoes. This connection affected our ethos with made the event much more meaningful. While …show more content…
It makes us analyze words in a deeper context that have to do with our argument. As a writer, I think that many of any arguments I make are incomplete. With the quotation journal, you’re supposed to look closer at words while broadening your scope on words so that our analysis is more interesting and can connect to our thesis in an intriguing way. This is how I have expanded as a writer. Before, I would rarely mention anything interesting in my analysis. In fact, my analysis wasn’t even analyzing anything about the quote but how the quote proved a certain situation. This meant that my analysis was very weak and not developed. Now, looking at my quotation journals, my analysis are more content focused and more developed than

The relationship between the United States and the Native American tribes has never been a supportive one, challenging at best. In the past 200 years the relationship between the two has put pressure on Congress’ claim of a world power over tribes and tribal nation’s natural sovereignty, one that is even older than that of the United States of America. This tension, which comes from a sense of where the status of the Tribe fits into the United States Constitution, is creating a slippery slope for the Native American people. But in the book, the biggest question Pommersheim raises in the introduction is: can the modern Indian people escape their federally forced dependence, to become truly self-defining?
There are many Native American tribes in America that are memorable for different reasons. One of the most memorable tribes in America, though, is the Lakota indian tribe. The location, terrain, and natural resources of the Lakota indians influenced how they lived. The original homeland of the Lakota indians were in what is now Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. There was also the tribe’s presence in Iowa, Nebraska, Montana, Northern Illinois, and South-Central Canada.

Native Americans Native Americans are very different from other tribes. They eat, live, dress and do many things differently. The things I’m going to be talking about in my interesting paper is What they eat? What they wear? Where they live?
When analyzing Native American societies, one looks at how Natives changed because of colonization. This focus on change has led many historians to forget about continuity and how Natives kept their cultural traditions alive. Instead of looking at change in Native societies, historians have started to look at how Natives adapted to the changing world around their society. One important aspect to understand when analyzing Native society through change and continuity is that societies are not stagnant and are constantly evolving. The story of the rise in colonization and decline of Native control over land is not a story of assimilation, but of adaption.
The settlers and the native people of America have contributed a good collection of books which constitute the body of American Literature. Any book written will register the life style of people, their food habits, culture, beliefs, system of education followed, the nature of children and their history. The books written by the writers from the United States of America have registered the expectations, hopes, future predictions along with warnings their fear for degeneration of moralities and the impacts of Industrial revolutions. American Literature was acutely carved by the history of the United Nations of America. In the beginning after a great revolution for more than a century and half America became the United States.
Merrell’s article proves the point that the lives of the Native Americans drastically changed just as the Europeans had. In my paper, I should guide the reader through my text and do not drop quotations into the paper and leave it to the reader to make connections.
The historic backdrop of America does not start in 1492. There were at that point many individuals living in the Americas when Christopher Columbus and his fatigued, salt-splattered white men lurched shoreward in the Bahamas. Columbus thought he had experienced the East Indies, so named the inviting locals 'Indios', Indians. Columbus was soon advised of his misstep in geology, however his name for the aboriginals of the Americas stuck. To themselves, the occupants of the landmass was generally 'The People'.
Throughout history, there have been many literary studies that focused on the culture and traditions of Native Americans. Native writers have worked painstakingly on tribal histories, and their works have made us realize that we have not learned the full story of the Native American tribes. Deborah Miranda has written a collective tribal memoir, “Bad Indians”, drawing on ancestral memory that revealed aspects of an indigenous worldview and contributed to update our understanding of the mission system, settler colonialism and histories of American Indians about how they underwent cruel violence and exploitation. Her memoir successfully addressed past grievances of colonialism and also recognized and honored indigenous knowledge and identity.
1. The significant traditional values commonly shared by Native Americans that would be in conflict with dominant-culture perspectives and practices involve federal laws, policies and institutions. The dominant culture in the United States has deliberately tried to destroy and eliminate Native American culture. The government forced Native Americans to leave their homes, which denied them their ways of living in harmony and nature with the environment. Native Americans have strong values towards not allowing the weight of civilization and the new technology to take over, which is in conflict with the dominant-culture perspective who focus on new technology.
Having the opportunity to write a variety of different essay styles has challenged me to improve my writing techniques even slightly. Having good credible sources was another technique I learned and improve. For most of my work, I used to go to Google, and just type whatever it is I was looking for, and usually I do not end up with that much great information. Now I start searching for information in databases because they are credible and more reliable.
