Nobility in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar
Humans have many amazing qualities. With many qualities though they go full circle and have a magnificent side and a tragic side. Happiness can turn into sadness, kindness and anger and so forth. One quality we as humans possess is being noble. To be or not be noble can be redefined by whoever is using the word, but it can typically be described as a sort of selfless practicality. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, we can see the embodiment of such an amazing trait come full circle in Brutus. Even if great, nobility makes us blind.

Brutus’ nobility takes away much of his understanding for how the plebeians understand and think. Brutus takes part in the stabbing of Caesar because it is what 's best for Rome so after in his speech to the plebs, he 's giving perfectly logical reasoning to someone of his stature, but ok`3`for the plebs it doesn 't mean very much for them as it does not provoke emotion. Referencing Caesar 's death Brutus lectures to the plebs, “Believe me for mine / honor, and have respect to mine honor that you may be- / lieve. Censure me in your wisdom, and awake your / senses that you may the better judge (III.ii.15-18). Brutus clearly thinks that speaking in a more formal manner will get his point to the plebs while as they are not very dignified honorable people they don’t take the point home. Brutus’ nobility gives him the ability to chastie people with a higher authority. His scolding of Cassius’ makes Cassius reflect on if what he did was really the right thing to do or not. Similarly, Brutus also makes the armies wait, turning down when Cassius said they should wait for the enemy to come to them. In response to Cassius’ plan about lying low Brutus retorts, “There is a tide in the affairs of men / Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; / Omitted, all the voyage of their life / Is bound in shallows and in miseries” (IV.iii.246-249). In Cassius’s speech to his brother he uses the method Ethos and establishes credibility and appeals to ethics or morals. One of the ways he does this is by saying that “[their] fathers say There was a Brutus once who would have brook’d The eternal devil” (Shakespeare 20-21). This shows that wiser people before them said that Brutus was strong and therefore, lends a hand towards Cassius’s argument that he should take action. Also by stating “I, as Aeneas, our great ancestor Did from the flames of troy upon his shoulder… Did I the tired Caesar” (Shakespeare 20-21).

At this point in the play, Brutus was making all of the decisions for the conspirators. He would not listen to Cassius when he should have. For example, if they would have killed Antony he would not have had to flee Rome, another thing he should have listened to is that Brutus should not have let Antony make a speech in act 3 scene 2 lines 73-105. Antony was able to use pathos during his speech to turn the people against the conspirators, while Brutus tried using logos. While Brutus maintains noble intentions, Cassius goes into this scheme with every intention of leaving everyone else behind to claim the power for himself, as he has been compelled by their society to do. Cassius tells Brutus that Caesar “doth bestride the narrow world like a Colossus” while convincing him that Caesar is accumulating too much power for one man, despite harboring the belief that all of that power should be his (JC I.ii.142-143). To further prove his point to Brutus, Cassius gives Brutus fake letters telling him that the common people would rather have Brutus in charge than Caesar. While this is just Cassius himself manipulating Brutus, Cassius is motivated by the pressures of their society and Brutus, motivated by the belief that his society wants him to, joins the conspirators in their plot to kill Caesar and take power for themselves. Last, Mark Antony uses ethos, pathos and logo to manipulate the Plebeians against Brutus and the conspirators. Thus, Cassius, Brutus and Mark Antony all use ethos, pathos and logos to manipulate one another and bring the people of Rome to their sides, resulting in total chaos.
Cassius saves the life of Caesar, sees him beg for water, and witnesses his epileptic seizure. From these weaknesses, Cassius finds himself to be just as worthy of the crown as is Caesar. His reasons are emotionally tied to getting rid of Caesar, Brutus chooses to become a conspirator for the good of Rome. He does not know how Caesar will use his power.

Brutus delivers his speech in a laudatory manner by conveying Caesar’s deeds and claiming he was ambitious, although Antony contradicts Brutus’ claims and says Caesar spurned the crown with the intent to merely rule as a de facto dictator.
