The North and the South differed from each other in various different ways including the geography, the economy, their society, and the transportation methods. Their economies developed in different ways depending on how they did things. One was more of a farmland, while the other was more of ports and rivers and streams. The way the North and the South differed helped them develop and grow into the economy that they were. One of the most striking differences between the North and the South was the climate and geography. In the North, there were multiple rivers and streams. In “Discovering Our Past The American Journey” chapter 8, section one “Economic Growth,” it states “These provided the waterpower necessary to run the machinery in the new factories.” This was clearly a big helped since the rivers and streams were what kept the factories moving. Also, the North was filled with ports. In chapter 8, section one “Economic Growth” it states “Through these ports passed the cotton shipped from Southern states to New England factories, as well as the finished cloth produced in the North and bound for markets throughout the nation.” These …show more content…
First of all, there were more towns and cities and it wasn’t just farmland for the most part. Also, taxes were quite low, which is something everyone is usually happy about. Another thing that I liked about the North is that they had roads to travel and river travel. The last reason I would want to live in the North is because they could buy goods in distant places which helped the economy grow. I would not like to live in the South because you would have to spend your day working in a farm doing backbreaking work. Another reason I would not want to live in the South is because it was not very industrial and it stayed rural. In conclusion, the South and the North differed in many different ways including geography, economy, society, and
The North had railroad links that would transport their supplies, guns, ammunition, and uniforms from their factories to the frontlines. At the time the North had a population of 22 million people against the 9 million in the South (of whom almost half were slaves.) The North was more industrial and produced 94 percent of the USA’s pig iron and 97 percent of its firearms.
The North had a Industrial economy with lots of railroads and many more machines to make work more efficient. The South had a Agricultural economy with lots of cash crops such as tobacco, rice, indigo, and most money making crop, cotton. The southwestern area made more
The North had many advantages. They beat the South in population they could draw soldiers from. The North had 22 million citizens where the South only had 5.5 million citizens. The North could transport supplies and people faster because of their roads, canals, and railroads. However the South disconnected from itself with barely any railroads and hard to move soldiers and goods from place to place.
Plus the north was a lot wealthier than the south. Since they had a much bigger population they had more workers and more factories. Also they used the railroad system to their benefit to bring goods to and from
It 's hard to imagine a time with no united states. In The regions there were slaves and the people got hurt. They were in the north american continent. They Did not have much hunting. Similarities and defenses in the new england and southern.
Due to the importance of slavery to its economy, the south held very different ideals than the north. For instance, during the Civil War, the North's Emancipation
The North was industrial with a better and more reliable economy than the South. All the South had was cotton which was massed produced. Many areas that were used for cotton production also contained dense slave populations. (Document 1). Since both sections had a very diverse means of making income, they began to separate more as time passed.
The north depended on trade and also had the beginnings of a manufacturing industry while the south relied heavily on the growing of cotton and farming to make their money. This economically divided country made it really hard for them to unite because they were so
As the antebellum Americans made several advancements in technological innovations, this helped the North overcome the South agriculturally. With the new inventions such as the cotton gin, the reaper, the steel tipped plow, and new ways to revive unfertile soil, the North had many advantages to aid them while they were gone to war. As these new inventions were created each had an impact on how and why the differences between the North and South came to be. Although the creation of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney improved the South’s economy it also made the South more dependent on slaves.
There were many differences between the North and the South. For instance, the South were very agricultural as opposed to the North which were industrial. The South used cheap labor in the form of slaves, whereas the North had workers do their jobs in factories at a faster pace. Because of sectionalism, competition between the north and the south began to increase.
The south was geographically blessed and had a heavy economic advantage over the middle and northern
The South was offended by the North. The North had prominent economy. Northern states based their economy on trade and manufacture goods. Document 3 states, “ the North’s economy came to depend more on trade than on agriculture.” Document 5 also inform how cities in the North grew promptly, the railway system, and the shipping industry.
Nick Baxter What caused the Civil War? DBQ The Civil War was caused by three main reasons are economic differences, interpretation of Constitution, and moral beliefs. The North and the South were very different economically.
On major difference was the need for slave labor. Men had large plantations that could not be efficiently run without many helping hands. This eventually led to a huge demand for African slaves, thus causing the south to be a major contributor to the triangle slave trade. The men had vast territories to protect and without slave labor the plantations would not have been successful enough to maintain income. In the north, there was not such a high demand for labor because the climate was not as prime for farming and agriculture.
The North and South emerged as two differences because they had various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, societal, and differences in the transportation systems. One of the most strong differences between the North and the South was the Climate and geography. In the North The climate is very different from the south. North has warm summers and snowy, cold winters like wise the south has warm, sunny, hot, humid summers ;and mild winters ,and heavy rainfall.
