After 10 years working as a registered nurse in many aspects of healthcare, felt an overwhelming desire to advance my career and myself to expand my role in caring for others. Becoming a nurse practitioner has always been a goal of mine. During my time working as a nursing manager, I became acutely aware of the need of skilled and talented providers that desire to provide passionate care to all individuals. I became especially concerned with the needs those with limited access to healthcare services. I knew my desire to care for individuals in a more autonomous role and I set out to develop the skills needed to meet the need I witnessed. In order to develop my skills, I would need to find a program that would challenge me professionally and guide me to the knowledge to become an advanced practice nurse. In the summer of 2013, I reached out to the FNP coordinator at UTC to seek her guidance and to determine if perusing a career as a FNP would be possible. She suggested I take a course and see if this was truly what I wanted to do. In August 2013 I began my first course, advanced …show more content…
Developing this independence and confidence in this new role will continue to be a challenge for me as a new nurse practitioner. Transitioning into a provider role with increased autonomy will stretch my comfort zone and pose a new set of challenges. It is my goal to practice in an environment that is highly collaborative with strong relationships with other providers. I believe this environment will further build my abilities and challenge me to continue to grow professionally. This collaborative environment also fosters a culture among providers of continual improvement and leads to improved patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes. All of which are the preeminent goals of my practice as a

Each morning patients came in for assessment and the treatment team developed or altered existing treatment protocols. I longed to be part of this team, working to stabilize each patient so they could return home to pursue their goals. The nurses stood out to me as the team members at ground zero in the unit, working directly with patients, and advocating for them in meetings. As a Nurse Practitioner, I will provide this same standard of holistic care to my patients, taking into consideration their biological, social, psychological and cultural needs while developing and implementing treatment decisions.
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
As areas for further development, I aim to enhance my critical thinking abilities and integrate more lab values into patient care. Overall, my senior practicum was a transformative experience that provided me with valuable opportunities for growth, learning and personal development. I am proud of what I have achieved and look forward to building on these foundations as I begin my nursing career. Role Competency

I care about providing the best holistic healthcare I possibly can for my patients through evidence-based practice. I respect individuals’ race, socioeconomic class, gender, and sexual orientation. I work well with others and I strive to help create a good working environment where people can communicate, ask questions, learn new information, and feel respected. With this New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, I hope to be exposed to many different clinical situations. I hope to further develop my clinical leadership skills and to gain new knowledge.
I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.

Introduction In this era of sophisticated and advanced technologies, healthcare is changing rapidly and becoming more complex. Nursing is not only a scientifically based profession but the value of ‘caring’ is at its core.
The need for new graduates in the nursing field to achieve competency, autonomy, and confidence. To do this, the organizations have the responsibility to design well-structured strategies to develop the right kind of mentors who will play a vital part in the transition. When I first started at Hershey Medical Center, I could not believe that I had come this far. The moment has finally come that I have been working towards for years now. I believe that the classes and orientation provided were meaningful and overwhelming at the same time.
I have involved in Psychology research via PSYC 397 since Fall 2016, with Dr. Jasmine Abrams as my supervising faculty member. As a research assistant in the Global Community Health Promotion Network I have helped with research studies and interventions centered around HIV/AIDs and Cardiovascular disease, specifically focusing on minority women. My work involves collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative sexual health data, completing literature searches, and compiling psychological assessments. I also had a role in culturally adapting an HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis which was presented to a community partner in the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. I have also had the opportunity to attend community forums and learn more about major health issues in the
After completing an overnight shift caring for twenty critically ill patients in on her own, Nurse Barabra Nshemereinwe graciously agreed to let me interview her. She flashed a weary smile as she told us that the hospital was fortunate to have a backup generator that would start during the frequent power outages they encountered. My team then followed her to a tiny storage room, crammed with what once was tens of thousands of dollars worth of donated medical equipment. As she explained how power surges had rendered many of these medical devices inoperable, I jotted down “SURGE PROTECTION” to make sure to incorporate this crucial insight into our revised prototype.

My Childhood days was a mixture of bitter emotions and worth challenging, as my father neglected two- kids including me, sister and my mother at a very young age, my mother was a nurse, but my father never allowed her to work, but soon after he left us, my mother forced to resume her job once again, as there was no other way rather to work for the upbringing of two kids. My grandmother (mother’s mother) was a great support to us as she stood as the pillar of care to my mother. She worked as a local vegetable seller and struggled hard to save her daughter and two kids, it was her boldness and god fearing attitude which inspired my mother to rejuvenate the lost life. I felt each and every pain experienced by my mother’s to continue my education, soon after secondary education, it’s time for me to select suitable professional career, that is the time when nursing was at its boom and finally I decided to pursue nursing as a career, it was a dream come true and there was a long tunnel in my life with only aim to care my family.
