The MEPN program prioritizes this, which aligns with my future goals in my own nursing practice. One of my key goals is to advance and deepen my skills in research to better confront issues affecting local, national, and global populations. Throughout my college career, I have immersed myself in diverse experiences to broaden my understanding of different perspectives and backgrounds. Serving as a Resident Assistant (RA) for the past three years has been a pivotal example. As an RA, I had the opportunity to interact with individuals from all backgrounds while managing many responsibilities.

a. This portfolio shows the educational journey through the BSN program at Western Governors University(WGU). The curriculum at WGU was very challenging, nonetheless it prepared me to become a safe and effective nurse. The BSN curriculum provided avenues to keep me up to date with safe practices and learn how to master therapeutic communication. WGU also helped me sharpen my critical thinking skills in order to make decisions quickly and provide safe and effective care to patients. As the result of my training, I am ready to embark in the field of nursing and do my best to make a difference in my patients lives.

I am an experienced hardworking, reliable and motivated Senior Nurse. I lead by example and thrive on challenges. I am able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and this is evident when working well within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). I have worked in Alder Hey children’s Hospital for fourteen years, working initially within the Oncology unit for eight years were I acquired a vast knowledge of sepsis.

Each morning patients came in for assessment and the treatment team developed or altered existing treatment protocols. I longed to be part of this team, working to stabilize each patient so they could return home to pursue their goals. The nurses stood out to me as the team members at ground zero in the unit, working directly with patients, and advocating for them in meetings. I am interested in your New Graduate Nurse Residency Program. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston and recently obtained my MA RN license in August 2015. I choose to be an RN because I love learning about the anatomy and physiology of the human body and working with people. When I was a little girl, I would watch the Discovery Health channel instead of watching cartoons. In high school, I became interested in social justice work when I did a month long volunteer service trip to India.

I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.

In the healthcare field, there are so many occupations to choose from. Occupations and careers and important milestones in life because they not only define so much about you, but they set what you are going to do the rest of your life. The healthcare field is a field of high interest to many people. One occupation of great interest is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). An LPN is someone who works under registered nurses or physicians and takes care of sick, injured, or disabled patients.

This is a personal statement for my application to the Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration in the Ball State School of Nursing. My personal statement provides details on my personal background and the unique impact that Family Nurse Practitioners have had on my life. I describe my undergraduate studies and how I firsthand gained interest as well as insight on the skills of a Family Nurse Practitioner. I go into detail about my aspiration to be a Family Nurse Practitioner to directly affect the patient care of a variety of patient populations. The personal statement connects qualities of my current practice as a Registered Nurse to the proficiencies of a Family Nurse Practitioner.

In the past I have shown my strength in this area of nursing care when looking after family members that have fallen victim to sickness. Whenever someone tells me that they are not feeling well, I immediately jump into action and try my best to make sure that they feel “cared for” .The feeling of pride and satisfaction I experience after caring for a person that is unwell is what originally made me choose nursing as a career. Caring is a basic attribute of human growth and development (Griffin 1983). This is why, as a nursing student I know it is such an important strength to be utilised when helping a patient to feel better.

This portfolio represents the professional and academical achievements of my educational career in the course over the years. It is the compilation of the hard work I have completed and my accomplishments that illustrate my strengths, problem-solving ability, work ethic, responsibility and moral and professional values. All of the education obtained during these years and the effort put in has given me the required knowledge, experience, values, professional behaviors, and ethical standards to make me a stronger and well prepared professional nurse. It has been a long journey since I started my nursing education becoming a CNA, nurse assistant, then a practical nurse LPN. Continuing with my education I became a registered nurse (RN) and now I am finishing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
