Obesity continues to become a problem around the world, and it is an issue that must be addressed as a society as a whole. There is no single cause of all overweight and obesity. There is no single approach that can help prevent or treat overweight and obesity. However, over the years, people have gathered more information about this disease and come up with multiple reason why people are obese. Emotional disorders, genetics, and the lack of physical activities are the three main reasons why obesity is caused.
Some people may go through a phase where they suffer from an emotional disorder. Sometimes the only cure for an emotional disorder is to eat as much as possible. It is possible that people over eat to the cause of depression and boredom. It is also always not necessary that overweight and obese people have more emotional problems than other people. In fact, obese people are vulnerable to their feelings which influences their eating habits, causing them to overeat. There are emotional reasons that forces individuals to eat when they are not hungry. Some use food as a defense mechanism to stop unwanted feelings. Food is known for a medicine to prevent sadness, guilt or boredom.

It is also well-known that overweight is a condition tending to concentrate within a family. Although, only in a few occasions are genes the primary cause of obesity. Scientists claim that a majority of people back in the days were suffering from obesity. Obesity was part of their blood and it continues to grow in humans. People with a gene linked to weight gain are just as likely to benefit from weight loss programs as those without, researchers have discovered. While many genes are believed to affect body weight, a particular version of the so-called “FTO” gene shows one of the strongest associations with fat
As humans we aren’t taught how to properly deal with stress. And most of the time people will turn to food or starvation as a form of coping. Over eating is a very common result which then forms a person to be suitable for obesity. It’s a way for one to express their feelings without actually speaking but using action. Growing up children whom parents suffer from this illness will more than likely follow their footsteps.

Behavior and environment has a big role to play in obesity too. Studies show that less than 50% of adults in America get a healthy amount physical activity. This means that grownups cannot get enough calories out and end up gaining weight because they choose not to live healthy or they have a disease. Also modern technology influences obesity because it makes labor easier. Computers and televisions keep Americans on the couch all day.
Advances in technology have made it easier for individuals to spend long hours sitting in front of screens, whether it be at work or at home. This lack of physical activity leads to a reduced calorie expenditure, which can contribute to weight gain over time. Other factors that contribute to obesity include genetics, certain medical conditions, and certain medications. However, these factors are less prevalent than lifestyle factors such as poor diet and lack of physical activity.
Obesity is a medical condition that affects much of the global population. This medical condition can bring about other medical problems and issues if not treated properly. Obesity is a complex condition with many risk factors that can cause a person to develop the condition. These risk factors are environment, genetics, sleep, etc. Obesity can bring about serious health issues such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and mental health problems.
However, the major factors contributing to obesity are overeating and a lack of exercise. Due to the alarming rise in obesity in the United
Americans today are fighting an obesity epidemic. According to a study published by Genomics & Genetics Weekly, the number of severely obese Americans has increased by 70 percent in a 10-year span (2012). The study also claimed that over 15 million Americans have a body mass index of greater than 40 percent (Genomics & Genetics Weekly, 2012). To put that number into perspective, people with a BMI (body mass index) of 25 to 29 are considered to be overweight while people with a BMI of 30-35 are considered to be obese. Some may ask what has led to this significant increase in obesity?
This is especially true of children who regularly consume fast food. Obesity in children can lead to conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and a variety of other health problems besides depression and lower
The contribution of each of these factors has been studied, and although genes play an important role in the regulation of body weight, the World Health Organization Consultation on Obesity concluded that behavioral and environmental factors ( sedentary lifestyles with a mixture of too much energy intake) are primarily responsible for the dramatic increase in obesity during the past two decades.
Francine Prose explains this in his article, “The Wages of Sin” where she states how to control their weight, what obesity is, and how others view obese people.
It cause physical ,psychological , and social problems. This problem can effect on children's for the rest of their lives. Childhood obesity is one of the main reasons of adulthood obesity also earlier risk obesity-related disease in adulthood. Obesity is defined as the condition in which excess body fat accumulates to the point of causing adverse health effects. It is determined by the body mass index (BMI), a measure that corresponds to weight in length.
As mentioned previously, it is now clear that obesity is the result of interplay between the genetic and environmental factors. Although researchers have not yet identified the clear link between the genes and obesity, there are certain genetic conditions which are associated with obesity such as Down syndrome, Alström’s syndrome, Bardet-Biedl syndrome, Prader - Willi syndrome etc. They have also found out that sometimes single-gene disorders such as congenital leptin deficiency (Dubern B, 2012) and defects in the melanocortin 4 receptor (Mergen M et al, 2001) are also responsible for morbid childhood obesity. According to research, heredity also plays a strong causal role in obesity.
Stress is a norm for people, it is applied to their daily lives, even without their own awareness. In order for that stress to be relieved, people search for different outlets. Binge eating provides provisional contentment and can briefly elevate a person's
In other study researchers find that when women overeat and gain weight, they get less pleasure from eating. Their brain scans reveal that after eating there is less activity in the ‘reward’ pathways of the brain – the neurological corridors that respond to pleasure. Obese people have fewer pleasure receptors in the brain suggesting that overeating blunts the reward
This could cause depression relating to the thought of not being good enough. Moving on to the subject of heart disease, diabetes and many more health problems that obesity could cause. Obesity is a serious matter that has to be dealt with. Obese people are causing the government to have to pay for countless medications and procedures due to health issues. Money that could be spent on something else is having to be spent on medical bills that could have been avoided if they had exercised.
