The Odyssey is a story about Odysseus and his journey home. The challenges that he faces, and the things he has to overcome to be back with his family. All these challenges that the gods were with him helping him to get past and endure things that he couldn 't do without the guidance. There are many interpretations of this story and many different types of interpretations. Some are movies, graphic novels, novels, short stories, prose, and many more. Picking two of those we can begin to compare and see which is better for out learning, and understanding. Comparing the Graphic Novel by Gareth Hinds, and the prose by Samuel Butler we begin to decipher the text, pictures and any other aid in understanding and find the best fit. Next, the graphic novel is easier to follow and easier to understand. If you are lost, you just quickly take a better look at the illustrations or flip back a few pages until you see that a part that you know very well, in the prose there is a lot of text and no real markers other than the paragraphing that you can take a simple look at to see if you know the section well enough to move on or if you need to take another look at it. Another reason the graphic novel interpretation of the Odyssey is easier to follow and understand is because of the fact that it tells the story in a more straight forward way. The texts tells what happens in the story with detail and the illustrations are what bring the creative aspect into play. In the prose, the text is very detailed and it can sometimes get confusing as to what is the story and what is creative. Such as, "Ulysses (Odysseus) slept in the cloister upon an undressed bullock 's hide, on the top of which he threw several skins of the sheep the suitors had eaten..." Lastly, the graphic novel interpretation is easier to understand because of the illustrations that serve many purposes. They help us to stay on track, they act as markers, and so much more. If we are not following or don 't understand then we can look back at the pictures and find things that we missed, or didn 't understand from the text. Finally, because of these pictures we can understand the story more for all of the aforementioned reasons. Because they help us engaged in the story, they help us to stay connected in in tune with the events in the story, and they help us to understand it better. Overall, the graphic novel is a better learning tool and more engaging interpretation of the Odyssey. This is because it is not as strenuous and chalk full of text, it is easier to follow along and understand, and the pictures sever many helpful
Odysseus was not very happy and takes up action against these men. After defeating all the men, Odysseus was able to get his wife back, and take back control over his kingdom. In some ways one could say The Odyssey is a metaphor for life. It could be a metaphor because both life and Odysseus journey are long, and both are filled with good and bad times.
Overall the book provides the important details and plot points that make it the better of the two interpretations. Ender’s game, like most stories follows pretty basic steps, from the
I’ll begin with Argos. In the Odyssey, symbolism is prevalent throughout; i.e., the sea (suffering and man’s weakness against the gods), Omens (the little control man has over his future), Odysseus’s bow (the measure of men vs. gods), etc. Odysseus finds Argos dying, but Argos knowing his master is near wags his tail happily. This display of continued loyalty brings tears to Odysseus’s eyes. This symbolism reminds me of the book, Where the Red Fern Grows.
Obviously, the art has a much greater extent of interpretation, and I wasn’t
The Odyssey is one of the best examples of literature works written using the beginning in media res. In The Odyssey, the first book starts with the description of the time when the main character is prisoned by a nymph and struggles to get home after 10 years of being absent from home. By employing such technique for his writing, the author makes the reader feel interested in what has happened before and led to current situation, which the readers can find later. Besides, it starts at the correct moment in order to explain who some of the characters are and how they are connected to the content of the poem. The book starts with the journey of Telemachus who can be considered the main character of the first books.
The Odyssey an epic poem accredited to the Greek poet Homer is a staple story about a ten year journey home following the events of the Trojan war. It is taught in schools across the country in the majority of high schools in America. However why is it taught so much? What cultural or literary significance does it bring that makes it almost a required novel to read? The Odyssey is not the only epic poem thought to be taught at a 9th grade level, the main hero of the story is not a good leader nor is he any significant character compared to other hero of similar epics, and they're are other better options to teach instead of this epic.
They help the reader understand the thoughts and feelings of the
This majorly affects the reader’s emotional attachment to the characters and the overall story. The start of the epic lacks great character development, the middle is slow and drawn out, and the story resolves in the last book, with too many events, that happen all at once. If it were not for its historical significance in our culture, the poem would not be as popular as it is present day. The Odyssey, written by
These two ways bring many advantages and disadvantages. One advantage of having the text it bring more details and emotion. It can also show more of their inner thoughts. But there are some disadvantages. One disadvantage is that it can be difficult to picture how the story's setting is taking place.
When I was reading the graphic novel it was so much easier to read than the poem because it showed me pictures and the people that were talking and the character traits. I feel like the graphic novel was easier to read because it would talk and reflect how Jews were and it would talk about Jewishness. The pictures showed how they reacted and I could see what it was talking about. Also in the graphic novel I could see how they could hope for the future because it would show them hiding and them talking about the future with their faces looking hopeful. In the poem “Often In A Minute it was harder to understand the reading because you really had to think about what the text was saying.

OVERARCHING THEMES Though The Odyssey and Paradise Lost are penned during completely separate time periods–with a span of roughly nine centuries between the writing of each–the two works still share many similar themes and subject matters. Some are more vital components for the genre in general, necessary for a piece of literature to be considered an epic; others remain less conspicuous, though with just as great an impact on the overall story. Heroism and the Hero’s Journey: One of the most defining elements of an epic work is the presence of the Hero’s Journey, also known as the monomyth. Introduced by Joseph Campbell, the Hero’s Journey describes the typical narrative pattern that accompanies many forms of storytelling, most commonly and most easily seen in classical literature.

The similarities are the art styles, content/ entertainment, and materials used to create it (graphic tablet, websites, computers, etc).
