Pathologists Assistant Reflection

I absolutely love the science aspect of it and I just have a passion in my heart that it's telling me this is it. At the end of middle school and high school, I volunteered at 3 different departments of 3 different Elliot Hospitals. I wanted to get a feel of being in the hospital and I wanted to imagine if I could see myself in the medical field for the next 10 years.

Becoming a Community Center Assistant, I will express various information that may involve the residents major including helping them succeed academically by sharing my experience as a Freshman. By doing this, I am helping others get the full benefit of their educational experience while helping them to stay updated on what is happening around the campus. It is always a good idea for people to be aware of the information involving their education, and as Community Center Assistant I envision that happening. Being an African American student in a PWI school was first difficult to adjust but with the help of extracurricular activities was able to adapt. As a Community Center Assistant I advise residence on way that they adjust to where they live

Becoming an Anesthesia Assistant would allow me to work as a healthcare professional, help people in their time of need, and have an increasingly dynamic career. I know that my attention to detail, creativity, and critical thinking capacity developed over years working in the medical field make me an ideal candidate for the Master’s of Medical Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant program at Emory University. As my life progresses, I have created a desire for a profession that offers a varied assortment of opportunities. I find it gratifying to have a career that is not only rewarding for caring for surgical patients, but also the attraction of a career that is a life long learning process. The attractiveness of a career with different possibilities and education expansion is energizing and motivational.

I currently work in the mental health field as the Director of Admissions. I have worked in this field for ten years. Most of that time was spent in what is known as “direct care” and for five years I was in a management role. The work is very difficult with a very high turnover and burnout rate. One of the main issues within the industry is the loss staff, which is usually due to job dissatisfaction.

His role as an oncologist has profoundly influenced the manner in which I plan to practice medicine in the future: with respect, compassion, and empathy for my patients. It was my observation of his interactions with cancer surviving patients that first inspired me to pursue medicine. These interactions inspired me not only to embark on a profession where I could serve others, but also make a difference in the lives of others. I believe I can make the biggest impact in the lives of my future patients by combining my passion for the clinic and science as a physician-scientist. Though I am early in my medical journey, and am willing to keep an open mind, it is only natural that I yearn to pursue a profession related to oncology.

I took all the sciences I could, eventually majoring in Biochemistry in college to understand the workings of the body. I always thought I wanted to be a pathologist. I was aware of pathology assistants but was unaware of what their job entailed. In my junior year of undergrad, I was fortunate enough to find out that my college worked with a teaching hospital, Montefiore Medical Center. I want to become a Medical Assistant because I enjoy helping others, and making them feel better. Medical Assistant is not just a career for me, it’s a goal that I will achieve with much pride and honor, and prove wrong those people who keep telling me that I’m not going to make it. I’m not really good in science, but I’m going to push myself to try hard to achieve my goal. Don’t ever let anyone label you, be your own kind of person and make the “impossible” possible. I know that it’s not going to be easy because of all the things you have to learn and memorize to become a Medical Assistant.

Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.

Through my studies of human expression and its reflection of how people deal with world events in different ways, I developed sensitivity to other worldviews that continues to prove useful through my daily interactions with people of different backgrounds. I have learned that just like art, medicine involves pattern recognition and derives insight from experiences. Similarly, what I especially enjoy about being a medical assistant is interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to be a part of their medical experiences, even if it is just by lending an ear. The experiences on my path to a career in medicine have made me want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those around me – a difference that leaves my patients in a better condition than they were in before I met them.

The Physician Assistant (PA) is an essential component of a medical staff. Physician Assistants work in many different areas of medicine under the direct supervision of a primary care physician.

The top physician assistant specialties that currently spark my interest are the pediatric practice, the surgical practice and the emergency department. I have previously shadowed all three fields in my pervious journey to obtaining my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) licenses. The fields interested me because of the work required and the environments they worked in. However, any field would be fine with me as long as their primary mission is focused on the bettering of patient’s health.

The thing I did best today, was, communicating with my patient, and doing his physical assessment. My clinical rotation this quarter for Galen College of Nursing ,is at the VA medical center, in Louisville Ky. The VA medical center is a govt hospital for the veterans.

Upon arriving to the unit this morning, I quickly realized today was going to be a chaotic day with the current patient census, and all of the new admissions. I was able to assist the night charge nurse with today’s assignments, while she helped with the code, and the day began. I informed my team that today was going to be a long day, and encouraged them to use each other and myself for help. I recommended they taking a few minutes to coordinate their work after receiving report. At 0745, when Jane informs me that the patient in 408 has fallen, I am quick to get into the room and do an assessment again.
