Paul Cartledge's 300: The Only Part Of Greek Life

367 Words2 Pages

Before reading this book and writing this review, I had never given much thought to the Greek life. The only part of Greek life I paid attention to was Greek mythology. Stories of gods and great heroes. I read fiction or more modern history books. Books such as JFK’s biography or Harry Potter. I was interested to learn more about the Spartans. Plus, I have seen the movie “300” many times. When I saw the book cover it said “the true story of the 300 Spartans who defended Greece”. This is why I decided to read THERMOPLYLAE.
I found that Paul Cartledge’s writing style was very interesting to read. He had gigantic amounts of dates, historical names and deeds in his book. He has a clever way of throwing in surprising humor every now and again.
