Civil disobedience is when someone breaks the law publicly by a nonviolent means (Nathanson.) Protesters committed a crime of civil disobedience; however, They were justified because the Bakken Pipeline construction has been stopped
Are all protesters non violent or are they really violent protesting to happen. An example of violent protesters is when protesters dismantled a fence that once surrounded a pipeline construction site near the Mississippi river (Haley). How can you say all protester are peaceful if they have dismantled a fence just because it was surrounding a construction site. If the protest was peaceful then they should have just marched around with signs not tear down a fence. An example of non-violent protesters would be when protesters have grouped together in the middle of a road to a pipeline construction site To stop worker

If the police are arresting protesters for trespassing are they really having peaceful protest. An example of this would be from charley haley’s report where she says that some of the protesters say that there will be mass demonstrations until the pipe line is stopped (Haley). If these are peaceful protest why are the protesters giving out threats to people. If the protesters are treating people thing they aren’t have ing a peaceful protest they are having a non-peaceful protest. Another example is when Mark Tauscheck says that the construction workers have a restraining order of twenty five feet on the protesters. (Tauscheck). This could be because they protesters are becoming violent and are having a non-peaceful protest. This could also be because they need to keep the protesters away so they can work or so that the protests do not get hurt. The protesters could say they are having a peaceful protest but they might get a little violent at some points and hurt people or destroy

Our second argument is on peaceful protest and not peaceful protest. The refusing to leave government property is violating the law, yes you may protest, but it has to be peaceful and non-threatening and no violence in the processes of a protest. Standing alone can be hard because it means going against social proof. People who stand alone on certain issues and beliefs notify their communities to the existence of a
Protestors were beat, jailed, and tormented for standing up for their beliefs. As Martin Luther King Jr. wrote in Letter from a Birmingham Jail, “I am in a Birmingham jail because injustice is in here.” The law enforcers were disobeying the laws and they were not peaceful. They stripped the protestors right to freedom of speech while terrorizing the marches and their participants. This was not the American way.
Peaceful resistance to laws positively affect a free society. Throughout history, there have been multiple cases of both violent and peaceful protests. However, the peaceful protests are the ones that tend to stick with a society and are the ones that change the society for the better. In April 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. wrote a letter about just and unjust laws while he was in Birmingham jail for peacefully protesting. King came to Birmingham because "injustice is here".
Peaceful protests turned violent because of the pressure from the authority, like the Bloody Sunday protest
Cesar mentioned that, “If we resort to violence…the violence will be escalated and there will be many injuries and perhaps deaths on both sides, or there will be total demoralization of the workers” (Garcia, 77). He created this idea that violence does not solve anything, and will only create bigger problems. However, a nonviolent movement is a protest
The consequences of peaceful protesting is, the marchers from Selma to Montgomery, had to go back and march three times. The first march wasn 't what they wanted to achieve and got sent back to the bridge. The second march was when they were crossing the bridge. The police officers attacked them with stick, teargas, clubs, arrested innocent people, guns were fired, knocked people to the ground, whips, rubber tubing wrapped in barbed wire was a weapon that the police officers whipped at the marchers. The third time they went to march, they won Federal Protection and they successfully marched for their cause.
The protestors created workshops in order to help them understand the concept of a nonviolent protest. “Are you able to accept blows without retaliating?” “Are you able to endure the ordeal of jail?” (Page 205) In order for them to have a peaceful protest, they must understand the fact that they will receive a new first name called “Nigger”, but would have to be as strong as possible

Civil Disobedience Thousands of dedicated people march the streets of a huge city, chanting repetitively about needing a change. They proudly hold vibrant signs and banners as they fight for what they believe in. Expressions of determination and hope are visibly spread across their faces. These people aren’t using weapons or violence to fight for their ideas; simply, they are using civil disobedience.
Rallies may start off peaceful but others who may agree with those protesting don’t always do it peacefully this causes riots and looting, which is the farthest thing from peaceful. There is a fine line from marching down the streets peacefully and making your opinion know like Martin Luther King Jr did in 1965, in Alabama to help fight for the right of African-Americans to vote. Then someone saying it’s okay to loot and destroy cars and stores because they are expressing their opinion.
