Personal Essay: Why I Want To Become A Doctor

Luckily, pathologists are physicians so they follow an educational path during undergraduate and medical school where they have an opportunity to learn about the field of pathology. Pathologists’ assistants, however, have a unique career and thus a unique educational path that many people do not even know exists. The lack of awareness of the pathologists’ assistant occupation and the lack of educational opportunities that are needed to achieve the certification of a pathologists’ assistant are the two biggest challenges facing the profession because they are responsible for the low number of participants in the field. The option of becoming a pathologists’ assistant is rarely presented in readings or discussions that young students engage in. As a result, many people, including myself at one time, feel as though they have such clear interests and passions but do not know of an aligning career path.

In third grade, I was assigned to create a project illustrating what I wanted to be when I grew up. At this time, due to my positive experiences with doctors and my desire to help others, especially children, I decided to describe the role of a pediatrician as my future career. Throughout my childhood, whenever asked about my future aspirations, I confidently declared that I would attend medical school and become a pediatrician. However, as I developed, the answer to this question slowly began to evolve as I gained a deeper understanding of my values and the people I desired to serve through medicine.

In fact, I believe the reason behind my high academic achievement was not natural ability; rather, I always made sure that I was not over-confident of my abilities and prepared to do extra work to insure my success. I even came up with a saying to motivate myself: “Work hard enough so that it is impossible to fail.” This philosophy has allowed me to take stressful situations in stride. I have been given the gift of knowing that I have been the one to change some people’s lives, by the care that I have given. No, it is not always an easy job, and there are nights that I lay awake thinking about my patients, but it is also what makes me good at what I do. 12. Why do I want to be a physician assistant? I can answer this question in some many ways because I have so many factors that help influence my decision. When I was born to age twelve there was a big hospital on the same street I lived in, I got to see everything from small cuts to pregnant women delivering their child or “accident” victims like my parents called them my entire life. I would sneak into the hospital to see how people who got hurt where been treated, sometimes on little stuff like stitching up a cut, nothing too bizarre, they would let me watch and they would tell me how what they were doing was helped, and I would go home and practice on my brothers or my uncles, basically anyone that would indulge me at that moment.

I have always wanted to be a surgeon since I was a kid. Doctors were treated like gods in my home country, Ethiopia. I was a shy little boy who dreamt big in my neighborhood and people would make fun of my goal due to the fact that there were no doctors in our neighborhood. They believed that I was not smart and strong enough to be a doctor. Besides my mother and aunt, nobody knew what I was capable of.

When I thought about the career I would want to pursue I was having trouble picturing myself in the type of work I would be most satisfied in. Career Field Report Like many college degrees becoming a radiologist is no easy accomplishment. It requires a lot of hard work and diligently studying the required materials to become a radiologist. Throughout the years as technology continues to grow, it has allowed radiologists to read examinations quicker. Even though a radiologist sit in a room and reads exams, it doesn’t mean they do not communicate within the hospital. Why do I want to attend college? College is an honorary achievement and it separates the determined from the undetermined. Owning a college to degree is an honor and an ecstatic feeling. Through college, that job is that much closer in the grasp. Through college, a person can perform at an elite level and really push themselves for greatness.

Doing what I love and being able to support myself and loved ones is important to me. I am a very independent person and I like to do things my way. I like to set individual goals everyday, whether that means doing my homework before a certain time, or completing something for the week. They help me get my work done on time and efficiently.

Growing up I could remember my mother who is a nurse always loving and helping others. Thanks to her passion for helping and caring for others, I developed the heart to want care for others especially those who aren’t able to care for themselves. Being the eldest child I would always help my mother take care of my sibling. You could say I was their second mom. I love my mother dearly and she will forever be my role model in life.

In five years, I hope to be in college, studying about something I'm interested in. I want to get into a good college with a great psychology program where I can learn enough about it so I can turn it into a progression. One thing I've noticed is that it's hard to find a hobby which is directly related to psychology, unlike other professions where your hobbies can be very similar to what you would be doing in that job. I believe that given the environment I was born into, where I have had to help many people to get through tough periods in their lives, I could be a good psychologist. This being my reality, I have grown to enjoy listening to people’s problems and difficulties and trying to help them to the best of my abilities.
