“Ivan staggered a few yard, then stopped at the stone wall that surrounded his house, and bent over. A swell of nausea rose from his gut. His diaphragm jerked tight, and he vomited. Good Run. Damn Good Run.” (Martino 7) Sounds pretty intense right? That is the mindset of both Ivan and Bobby to become state wrestling champions during there senior year of high school. They both are aware of each other but don’t know how each other wrestle. They both face hardships from coaches, friends, and family and are expected to reach everybody’s expectations. In this journal I will be connecting, evaluating, and questioning.
I can connect with Ivan and how he feels after his run because I have passed out right after I puked from working hard in practice.

I like his mindset because although he is not the superior wrestler but it doesn’t stop his drive to win and work hard. I think that he is ready to do what ever it takes in order to win. He has showed this after his first tournament of the season he had lost in the semifinals and thought to himself, “He had to face the defeat, than put it behind him. Later he would watch Korske win in the finals. He would get his chance at him, down the road. Down the road, at Jandwin. Coach Messina had told him so.” (Martino 99) After that tournament he tells himself that his only goal for the season is to beat Ivan Korske and he is ready to alienate all of the negligible goals everyone else has for him. Because of Bobby’s hard work I think that I can predict how his season is going to go.
I predict that bobby is going to become the state champion and beat Ivan. I think that Bobby will win because of his will to work hard. I think that Ivan is too cocky about how good he is. He cocky because he knows that he is good and doesn’t think that he has to work as hard as before because he is that good. He shows this by harassing the freshman wrestlers as if he is the only star wrestler. “ Kid I don’t need your life story, your not going to be here long enough for it to matter” (Martino 21) is what he said to the freshman wrestler he was picking
UAB’s Pasini defeated Pedro Uribe 4-6, 6-3, 10-5. Lipscomb would gain one singles victory as Daniel Cardenas defeated Fourie of UAB 6-2, 4-6, 3-6. UAB ended singles on a high note with Gonzalez deafeating Jorge Ortegon of Lipscomb 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4). In doubles, UAB started with a win by Manchev/Paiste over Wong/Skrabut 6-2. Lipscomb’s Cardenas/Uribe beat Fourie/Pasini of UAB 6-3 in the second doubles set.
Ryan then displays more reasoning when he says, “I think if I help make more sense of how it works, the competition wouldn’t look silly to you. Remember when we watched uncle's jiu-jitsu tournament? I complained about how it looked stupid but once you explained some of the choke holds and submissions it started to make sense to me. I feel like this is the same thing right?” (Duval).

I tried to avoid looking at the other teams practicing as I walked to the arena, I needed to focus on my routine. When I entered the HP Field House filled with 11,000 cheerleaders and spectators, my stomach sank and nerves hit me instantly. I started running through our routine and warming up stunts and tumbling. Before we stepped on the mat, we huddled together and my coach said, “You’ve got two minutes and thirty seconds to leave your mark. That’s all you need.
As I sit here after the end of my last wrestling season, I write this essay mostly for myself, reflecting on where my life has gone. Avon Athletics, in specific wrestling, has been there every step of the way. In packets put together by the wrestling head coach, I read about how great the sport of wrestling is from the perspective of a state qualifier. I want to share a different perspective. I want to share the perspective from a wrestler who has lost the passion for the sport he once loved; but also a wrestler who will never regret a single moment of time spent on the mat.
Both of them wants to win the Olympic final in the 100-meter run. But they also take physical and mental pressures in order to achieve their goal. The movie’s itself tries to show us that their winning was a consequence of their intense belief in themselves and their cause. It is generally agreed today that in our time sporting events are much more different than in the past. People let their emotions and poor attitudes reflect on some really poor sportsmanship.

Rebuke sucks on all counts of wrestling. Owens is way out of his league and needs to feud with a better wrestler. The current intercontinental title and a new contender will step up. In the fatal four way qualifying match, Cesaro took it to Owens but lost on a cheap pin. Look for Cesaro to make a run for the IC title at Survivor Series.
A sense of accomplishment is invaluable to a person. Not only does a sense of accomplishment build confidence and faith in oneself, but it also allows one to reflect on how wonderful the journey to the accomplishment was, and how every little struggle and triumph was worth it. In the middle of summer, where time seems endless and the stress of the previous school year has been shed by students, I never expected to find out that I scored a five on both of the advanced placement exams I took. Nor did I have one-hundred percent confidence the goals we set as section leaders of the marching band would actually be met. Yet to my surprise, I had the good fortune of accomplishing challenging things in both aspects of my life.
