Evolution is a fact of life. We must adapt to changing situations, or perish.
This self-change paper will outline my educational evolution, particularly with emphasis on improving future educational and career goals. I will also implement a time-line for the educational goals, and my personal development to achieve them. The foundational effect of my initial educational experience starting in the New Orleans public school system. A brief summary of life experiences between high school and attending ACC, and the impact they left on my life. The revelation of the results of my academic strengths and weaknesses from the several assessment test taken during this past semester. Finally I will expand on my self-change contract and expand on goals

Wisdom and the willingness to evolve for the better has helped me become successful in life. That success was in question during this semester when the work load became slightly more difficult than last semester. My grades started slipping in one of my classes, and the doubt crept in. However, taking the mandatory assessment test in Keys to Success revealed things about myself I never knew. The top three strengths on Pre-CRI are as follows. Communication-5.0; Contextual Awarness-5.0; and Cultural Awareness-5.0. In the recommended plan of action section for the four keys I scored as follows. Think-4.5; Know-4.8; Act-4.1; Go-4.4 with 5.0 the maximum. After several weeks of gaining knowledge, the Post-CRI was slightly different, but did change. The top three strengths are Contextual Awarness-5.0; Cultural Awareness-5.0; Financial Aid Awarness-5.0. Think increased by .1, Know down .1, Act up by .3; and Go up by …show more content…
The problem is, I was not sure where that change needed to be made. As faith would have it, the revelation hit me like a ton of bricks. Another student noticed the smallest of mistakes in the class syllabus (as noted in my journal entry 02/10), which can only be noticed by reading the syllabus. This taught me my learning techniques needed improvement as reflected in my Pre-CRI with a score of 3.8. Later in the semester, I learned the value of taking notes in class when I failed to answer a test question correctly on in class activities. The area of research was also a challenge with a 4.0. I later learned this was mainly from a lack of knowledge of what was available by ACC. However, that all changed on 3/24 when the Librarian Mrs. Chavez gave an in-depth overview on services and resources offered by the ACC library. The information I received from Mrs. Chavez is invaluable as I progress toward my goals. As a result of the wisdom gained on these two weaknesses from the Pre-CRI, I saw an increase in score for learning techniques-4.0; and research- 4.6. I was surprised to see an increase in scores from Pre to Post CRI in Financial Aid Awareness from 3.0 to 5.0. The reason for my surprise is that the VA is paying all charges and fees. But as I reflect on my main career goal in finances, and facilitating a presentation on the lasting effects of student loans, the increase is to help
Despite the challenge, I managed to earn decent grades that I was still proud of. Unfortunately, to
Lowrey achieves greater efficacy in delivering her point when she mentions the financial aid award letters. “Non-standardized financial aid award letters might be the biggest problem.... But comparison shopping is difficult when you're weighing apples and oranges.” The colleges turn a simple process into a challenging task by preparing award letters that are vague, deceptive and labyrinthine. All colleges strive to offer some basic information to students, which includes cost of the year in college, financial aid the school provides, costs contributed by a student and the prospective gaps fulfilled through other sources.
The self-assessment tests we had to take at the beginning of the semester reassured me that I was on the right path academically and career wise. I learned my interest areas are investigative and conventional match with my accounting career choice. My work values of achievement and relationships
Journal #2 The purpose of the article,“What Colleges Want to See on Your Application” by Emily Driscoll, is to discuss what would differentiate future college applicants in a pool of indistinguishable applications and to aid them in their quest for higher education. This article does have bias in that the author fails to consider Seniors, or students about to graduate from high school, who have neither challenged themselves nor engaged in their neighborhood. Driscoll assumes that their audience has been through every step from community service to recommendations, or has the opportunity to make up for lost time. In the article “What Colleges Want to See on Your Application,” Emily Driscoll discusses the contents the best application must display.
The strengths that were identified this time taking the assessment were all characteristics that I strongly identify with. The most recent assessment showed that my strengths are, in order, Futuristic, Context, Relator, Restorative, and Analytical. This is in comparison to my 2014 results of Includer, Harmony, Consistency, Relator, and Analytical. My 2014 results were much more reflective of someone in the relationship building domain, something that I would actually consider myself only competent at, if not a weakness of mine. I am solid in those aspects, but thought that it overestimated my capabilities
An issue that could arise is a major adjustment in my study habits. Currently, my study habits may not be disciplined enough to achieve the grades I desire on a college level. Although this awakening might be harsh, it would force me to develop proper habits, preparing me for college two years in advance. Although the preparation that the Ohio State Academy would grant me is a strong reason to attend, the primary reason for my application is its intrinsic value. Although my high school offers a solid catalog of AP or CCP courses, the classes offered do not allow me to further my education in my fields of interest.
Introduction The cost of college tuition in the United States has been skyrocketing for decades, making higher education unaffordable for many families across the country. This issue not only affects the immediate financial stability of students and their families, but also has far-reaching consequences for the economy and the government. With more and more people struggling to afford college, we are seeing a decline in the number of students enrolling in higher education and a decrease in the number of skilled workers entering the job market. As such, it is essential that we find solutions to make higher education more accessible and affordable for everyone.
Category 2, a foundation habit, showed that I scored consistently across all areas. The one that I feel weakest about is working hard in a way that avoids burn out. I tend to become quite passionate about my work and exhaust myself overtime. In the evenings, I try to keep busy to stay focused on life but will burn myself out thinking to hard occasionally.
In “A Quick Way to Cut College Costs” Steve Cohen provides a rationale for the price of college education. He says that the price is appalling and abnormal and that in the last 30 years it rose five times faster than other prices. He argues that the surest way to reduce the price of college education is for Congress to take action to significantly decrease the E.F.C and that will force colleges to provide more accurate financial aid. The author claims that the E.F.C, which is estimated by the Department of education, is not thorough because it doesn’t take into account many factors.
We learned the material in class and was assigned homework everyday. However, when the test came along, the results I obtained were devastating. Test after test, I kept getting C’s, D’s and even E’s. Every time I get a bad test score back, I would shrug it off. “The next test will be better,” I kept telling myself.
Leaders possess different strengths that allow them to succeed in their career or life. The Clifton Strengths Finder Assessment helped identify my top strengths and how to lead with my strengths in order to further develop them. My top five strengths were competition, positivity, winning others over (WOO), harmony, and achiever. Based on the meaning of each strength, I related to all them, however, I was surprised by some of them.
Raising tuition year after year will cause a drop in applicants and affect current students’ retention rates. That is because tuition is already at an all-time high, making it harder for underfunded students to even think about entering higher education. Overtime students have grown increasingly frustrated with tuition rates. That is because in the past 20 years, "tuition increased twice as fast as the overall cost of living”
My strengths, to begin, are words in context and writing and language. In contrast, command of evidence and standard english conventions are my weaknesses. I will improve my PSAT score by working on my understanding of complex text, improve my drafting and revising, and improved understanding of radical numbers. I'm going to do this so that I can get to my goal easier.
I have understood the material more as I studied out of the text book. This has also helped me take effective notes. With this most recent score on my exam I had a push to keep going and
Introduction College tuitions increase is not a recent phenomenon in America. In fact, this inflation of college fees started, at least, a century ago, but it was not until the 1970’s when the tuition fees grew enormously, even faster than the rate of inflation. At the moment, college tuitions in the United States of America are exceedingly elevating, which causes some people not to apply for university or college and just rely on their high school diploma to apply for a job. Moreover, these high fees have been the reason that many families went into debt in order to pay for their children to attend university. Furthermore, a holder of a Bachelor degree earnings is relatively higher compared to those of a high school diploma holder.
