Personal Narrative: My Life Before High School

The lunch bell rang loudly in my ear as I packed up my materials from math class. As soon as Mrs. Millie released our class, I raced everyone else in our grade to my locker so I wouldn’t have to wait in the back. Each person has been taught to hope, to have a dream. I always shot for the stars; I wanted to be a princess, obviously that didn’t work out though. As every individual ages his or her aspirations become more realistic; I aspire to have a stable job and a loving family. Having dreams is an important part of everyone’s lives.

The transition from middle school to high school is what shaped me the most and this adjustment has changed me in both good and bad ways. As a freshman, I enrolled in a private school, called Bridgemont High School. It was a very small school and did not have the same help as the public schools offered. I didn 't have an ELD class and classes providing extra help were limited. Eld means einglish language development, these classes are classes to help develop your english speaking skills even though i can speak english i had poor grammar.

There isn’t much I remember from elementary school, I never thought anything I did before jr high really mattered. However there is one thing I won’t be able to forget about. Not because it was particularly significant to me, but because it was significant to my father who always brings it up. I’m sure if he hadn’t reminded me of it so frequently I would’ve forgot about it a long time ago. You see, in fifth grade I had a really scrawny nerdy friend who’d get picked on quite often for being like so, and one day he told his dad who also worked with my father and told him that I would stand up for him when he was getting bullied.

During my freshman year of high school I struggled in many areas of my life including personal, social, and academic. I was in an emotionally abusive relationship, struggling with my self-esteem, and fighting to keep my grades above c 's. Since then I have grown, learned from my experiences and it can all be seen through my transcripts and the friend group I now surround myself with. I came into high school with a boyfriend who I had dated on and off throughout middle school. He was the kind of boy who did not understand the concept of how to treat people, and being so young I did not fully understand the way he was treating me. My parents were not his biggest fans because I often came home upset because of the things he said to me, and the way he treated me.

My parents dream include getting good grades while making the good decisions. One quote by an unknown person said “ Move out of your comfort zone you can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when u try sometimes”. As my parents dream of getting good grades, they also want me to learn new things. To be successful is going to be hard and challenging step with hard work.

Summer was winding down and I was getting ready for school. I was kind of nervous but I felt good. I was ready to out of middle school. I heard that the upper classman were really rude to the freshman so I was nervous.

In ten years I will be twenty six and would hopefully be out of school. I would have gone to school and gotten my bachelor’s degree in mortuary science in one of the sixty schools that are accredited by the Board of Funeral Service Education. I would have done my apprenticeship at a funeral home and gotten my certificate to be a certified mortician. I would be trying to open up my own funeral home to support my family. As a mortician I would work from funeral homes or crematoriums, and helping families who have had family members who have recently deceased.

All I was doing, was eating my lunch. "You suck," "You cant do anything!" Tears rolled down my eyes... It was February 1st, 2016, and I just finished math class. I was really stressed out in math because I was just out sick for two days and I wasn't understanding anything.

In the duration of my middle school years, I maintained excellent grades, except I had just one issue that held me back from a satisfying life. That issue was the fact that friends came very hard to me in my middle school years. Before my struggles at my middle school, Trafton, I had a very productive social life in the Elementary school I attended, Roberts Elementary. Here, it was very easy to make friends and have a great social life, since no hard work was required as a kid. Middle school, however, was a great challenge for me.

Life can be full of false hope and promises, but what we decide to make of the situation is the defining factor. As children we dreamed of becoming doctors, lawyers, or business owners with the idea that our goal would be achieved. As we grow older and the time has come for our goals to be met we sometimes fall short or give up on our lifelong dream. Life can get in the way and things do not always turn out the way we intend it to. Our dreams do not seem as easy to obtain as they did when we were a child with a big imagination.

In 2015, I started my eighth grade school year in student home caterina with mr and mrs wagner. I was on the crusaders team with mr. bush, mrs. number, mrs. squaresky, mr.shur, and miss. ainsworth. People who i believe contributed to my success today would be my seventh grade houseparents Mr and Mrs Troop. The Troops made me a successful person because they always told me not to give up and that they saw something grand in me.

When I started high school I felt like I did not belong here. High school was very different from my middle school. Some of my teachers tried to tell me how high school was going to be like for all of us in the moment I believed them but the only advice I valued was my older brothers. “No one is really going to help you or give you direction. In fact, the odds are against you.”

Everything is not as Bad as it Actually is I believe to always consider every possible outcome of life and not make judgements too easily. This all started about a month ago, it was the middle of summer, school was just about to start and I was very nervous about starting high school, along with being excited for learning new things, although I was mostly scared about getting a bad grade. As the days approached, many of my friends and I discussed of how we were all scared for our first week, scared of homework, tests, essays, and all sorts of frightening things.
