My bags were completely packed for our upcoming trip to Charleston, South Carolina. I had been waiting for this seemingly perfect trip for the whole summer.
When we arrived at our cabin, it was less than what we expected; much less. The private cottage was extremely outdated. When we first walked in, you could hear my mother shriek after she spotted a cockroach near the fireplace. I couldn’t sleep from the constant feeling that bugs were crawling on me.
About halfway into the trip, my family and I were eating dinner at California Dreaming when we received a phone call from our neighbor informing us of a large storm that was present back home.
“It sounds like someone is ripping off my garage door,” our neighbor, Sharee Wagoner, explained. We continued eating without worry until Sharee called us a second time telling us that her next door neighbor’s trampoline was in her pool. The five of us all

Our neighborhood looked like a demolition site. There were trees, leaves, and branches scattered among the roads and driveways. We couldn’t even access our driveway due to a large tree in the way of our path. The entire property was a warzone. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. While circling the house, we spotted many old trees believed to be at least 100 years old that had fallen. There was a notable stench in the air. A musky scent up near the front of the house. I saw that our gas lamp had been crushed by a fallen branch and gas was leaking into the air. We’re lucky that there wasn’t a fire, or else our house would have been gone for sure. The tornado looked like it had just eaten up the trees surrounding our home. Since there was no visible damage to the house, my father and I went in to the powerless house to rest from the grueling five hour trip that we had just endured. The next morning, my father and I started clean up process and cleared the driveway of any fallen
Alabama Trip My mom and and dad told me in December that we were going to Gulf Shores, Alabama to visit my grandparents. Gulf Shores is the southernmost town in Alabama, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I have been there twice when I was little. I remember that I collected seashells and went swimming with Boppa in the pool.
This house had a precarious foundation, a leaking ceiling that turned into a deluge of water during even the lightest rains, no source of heat or air conditioning, thousands of bugs, and even filthy rodents. It was a house that would definitely not be suitable for raising four kids if the child protective service had made a visit. The author effortlessly made the reader feel how awful it was to live in Welch by describing her own hatred for
The water was at the top of two story houses. So it was hard for people to stay in their house for protection against it. Once the storm had passed and the few survivors that were left, you could see just how disastrous the storm really was. “A sea of wreckage spread in every direction. Houses had disintegrated.
This wife and husband stayed in their home because Riley was recovering from surgery, as the 72 km winds were surrounding the house, Dianne describes it as, "I feel like I 'm in a sardine can..." According to her it was so bad that she says, "My husband said he 'll duct-tape me to a chair if I try to open the front door. " She and her husband were only one of many families who went through hurricane Irma, thankfully they lived it through to see another day, but unfortunately not everyone does. Wendell Bailey age 74, died inside his home as it burned up. According to sources, he had been without power for 72 hours and was trying to warm himself up, in the process though, his house caught fire and he was trapped inside while the fire was
Big clouds of ashes were arising from the top of Mount. St. Helens. We tried to pack everything up. But every minute the clouds were getting closer.
I barely make it inside my house when the storm is right above us. After 4 days of the howling winds and only the light from candles, we finally see the light of day again. I open the second floor window and step outside. The dust is piled up to the second floor. I look around and there is
Carrying on, I needed a cool glass of water. I slowly walked out of my tiny bedroom, and it felt amazing to get a little bit of fresh air. I am just going to say it is very bothersome staying in a tiny room while coughing up hairballs, or what it felt like. I took one turn out of my doorway and I was about to go down the hallway to the kitchen when my parents’ whom were bickering intrigued me.
In August of 2005 we had a major hurricane named Katrina. It came and destroyed our city. It was the most devastating time ever. Our city hasn’t been the same since due to the flooding and wind damages that occurred. There are still a lot of homes that haven’t been repaired.
When I woke up today, I could tell the dust was coming in. I had just finished feeding the animals in our barn when I noticed the sky off in the distance, was black. I got inside and notified my whole family to take cover. By now, we had the drill down. My mother put wet towels in every crack in every exterior door.
Close your eyes and imagine what it would be like to live in a house surrounded by enormous vivacious trees. The view from every angle of your home would never be a disappointment. Think about how beautiful and breathtaking it would be to watch all of the leaves change colors during autumn. Right now, you are most likely inclined to believe that nothing could possibly be awful about living here, but you are wrong, very wrong. Now imagine that same house, but place it in a residential suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Lori’s foot crashed through the spongy wood floor in the living room. After inspecting the house, Dad decided that the termite infestation was so severe that nothing could be done about it. We’d have to coexist with the critters” (100-101). This case is similar to the last, but even worse. There was nothing to kill the cockroaches or the termites besides the pesticides Rose Mary refused to buy, so the Walls family decided to live with the bugs, declining their living conditions even more.
I'm exploring various areas for retirement, which presently includes Raleigh/Durham, and possibly Asheville, for visits up to six months of the year. Hopefully, I will be lucky to meet acquaintances who are similar in age who are willing to connect without the need for a rushed relationship. I would like to settle down but I am realistic and will admit that I am careful. I am hopeful for a mature commitment in the future. An important aspect is flexibility as my lifestyle involves travel, which is unavoidable.
My Trip to Florida It was a cold winter night in Upstate New York. My mom and dad were enjoying a cup of coffee, my sisters were playing video games, and I was editing a few pictures on my computer. My mom brought up the idea of a vacation. She said” We haven’t been on a vacation for a long time”.
It ripped up trees, destroyed cars, carried houses into the air… and Justin Sky was caught in the middle of it all. Justin tried to take cover, but everything was being destroyed. Him and his family searched frantically for shelter, and ran into a small building on the edge of town. They ducked into the room, looking for
Driving away from my simple life in Cincinnati the exciting tough of living on the beach and working as a barmaid came over me. It was a hot June afternoon as I packed everything I owned into my large conversion van. I hung clothes on the clothing
