Ivonne I too thought this was going to be a very easy class. I had absolutely no idea how complex evidence based would actually be. There are many tedious concepts and facts to take into consideration when it comes to evidence based practice. As Houser (2015) states "The strongest evidence for nursing practice is provided when multiple studies report the same results." I also learned that the way you search for your data makes an incredible difference in your results. I too know that I will be able to apply what I have learned from this course not only the health care setting but also in aspects of my own life. With nursing we will continue to learn and evolve as new research comes about, new disease, and new technology.
According to Hinkle and Cheever (2014), Evidence-based practice is not about emerging new knowledge or confirming existing knowledge. It is about interpreting the evidence and applying it to clinical decision-making. And clinical opinion validates existing knowledge based on a theory. Furthermore, Evidence-based practice is a practice that is supported by the reaches that considers the health care setting, patients, and clinical judgment (Hinkle and Cheever, 7) This week I was able to practice in relaxation techniques with my patient.
In a scientific evidenced-base practice, it is showing that there are many risk factors that predispose certain individuals to development of diabetes. To deter these people, screening the population who at risk of developing a chronic disease like diabetes would play a serious role not only. Early identification and intervention of pre-diabetes and diabetes can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes, and reduce the incidence of diabetes-related
My Intent to Be a Nurse Practitioner Coming from a third world country where there aren’t many opportunities for work and funding for education, proceding to nursing school was a grand opportunity. The privilege to attend a government subsidized school where top students in the region compete to get into the program that allowed only 60 students per year was indeed a blessing. As clinical rotations began, what was once considered a mere opportunity evolved into a true passion for caring as I truly love and enjoy nursing and helping people.
For this week’s discussion post I will identify a situation where evidence-based practice has been applied in my workplace. Evidence-based guidelines are put in place and into practice after research has been completed. This helps with intertwining practice and research and are established by professional organizations, government agencies, institutions, or expert panels (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). These clinical guidelines give clinicians findings to help in the decision making process of diseases or treatments. In developing evidence-based practice, a clinical question must first be put into place.
Introduction Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2019) defined Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) as a problem-solving approach to clinical decision-making. It involves using the best available evidence through a systematic search and critical appraisal of relevant evidence, combined with clinical expertise and patient preferences, to improve individual, group, community, and system outcomes. EBP is a lifelong approach to clinical decision-making that combines the best available evidence with clinical expertise and patient values to improve outcomes (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). The University of Missouri Hospital, locally known as MU Health Care, is an organization that emphasizes its mission, vision, and values, all critical elements of evidence-based practice.
Nursing is a most trusted and gratifying profession. As a nurse educator, I will express my passion for teaching by incorporating features such as clinical assessments, practical application of theory, evaluation, and role modeling into advanced nursing practice, from previous experiences and current experience and clinical practicum to find success and gratification in students chosen profession as well empowering leaners to develop their own strengths, beliefs, and personal attributes to become a good professional. Personally, I do have a positive attitude towards the personal and professional growth, and value ongoing learning and will stive to instill the same into my students learnig journey .. My objective as a Nurse Educator
Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
The skills and knowledge that I have gained in this course will help me to write better works in the future. I have grown as a more competent and skilled writer over the past semester. I can take what I have learned and not only use it in future college level writing but also in my profession as a nurse. Today, I feel much more prepared to take on a writing assignment. In this class, I have learned several ways to organize my thoughts and ideas and turn them into a well thought out project.
INTRODUCTION: This contextual project consists of 10 concept from the block 1 study with the title “Research and Nursing Research”. The meaning of each concept will be clarified, critically analyzed and applied to social context, personal life and current professional life. The usefulness of the concept to the current world will also be explained.
This assignment has impacted my perspective on evidence-based practice by helping me build clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of difference diagnoses that will enables me to apply the most high-quality and appropriate intervention strategies that is proven effective in improve patient’s treatment outcome.
What is Evidence-based practice? Evidence-based practice is an all-around systematic approach to patient care that was built up on research and proven treatment results within nursing in order to increase the patient outcomes. Evidence based practice is define as “the integration of current evidences and practices to make decisions about patient care”. (Medical Surgical Nursing, 2018). Evidence-based practice not only includes the best proven research for practicing patient-centered care, but also merges the patient’s preferences and values into consideration.
I have a heart for service and a strong desire to make a difference in people’s lives. Becoming a nurse I will be able to fulfill my passion of making a positive impact on individual lives on a daily basis. I will be able to fulfill my nurturing and caring desires of helping others. I’m very passionate and fascinated with the medical field in all aspects. I strive for excellence, integrity and love interacting with all diversity of people.
In order to improve the health of the population research must be put into action. Research and practice are the reasons for successful programs that have helped improve the help of numerous situations in the world. In order to improve and other concerns there must be improvement of the evidence-based approach. Evidence-based public health is defined as the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective programs and policies in public health through application of principles of scientific reasoning, including systematic uses of data and information systems, and appropriate use of science theory and program planning models.1 Evidence-based public health is important because it provides evidence in making decisions about the care
In this course, I learned the different nursing theories and how it has been
As for things, I would like to delve into this coming term, as well as the one after that, I honestly haven’t thought about it. I guess I would enjoy learning and doing courses that involves in nursing more, like we about to do next semester I look forward to it. My experience at St George’s University thus far has also been inspiring for me. I came here hoping to have my eyes and ears opened and to be able to see things differently in the world, and to gain as much knowledge that I possibly can. But so far, I am learning little by little
