Fortunately, I was mistaken, since I liked this character already, and he resembled like a good kid. Pike, the psychopath of the group, always did something ridiculously stupid. Pike, in the beginning of the story, set a store on fire, but the author doesn’t reveal to us if the store burned down or not, but I’m theorizing it did; however before he set the fire in the store, he stole candy bars from there since he wanted to seem like a bad boy and impress all his friends. I wouldn’t say that his friends were impressed by him. They seemed to be more terrified than impressed since they didn’t want to go to jail.

Clearly, this shows that the author doesn’t agree with how Peter treated Sucker because Peter expresses his remorse and acknowledges that he was wrong in the way he acted. Friendship is too fragile of a thing to be taken lightly.

Do you think Sucker was asking too much of Pete? Well in my opinion yes and no I think there were certain times he was and certain times he wasn't here's two reason for why. The first reason is Sucker is always waiting for Pete to get home.

In Catcher in the Rye, Holden stops by his old school – now Phoebe’s school - to say goodbye to Phoebe before he leaves New York and heads out West. Although Holden hasn’t been to the school in a long time, “[i]t [is] exactly the same as it was when [Holden] went there” (220). Yet, Holden notices that “some pervert bum” (221) snuck into the school and written “Fuck you” on the walls. He immediately tries to rub it off so that Phoebe and all the other little kids wouldn’t learn what the phrase meant, but he is distressed to see that it was scratched onto the wall unable to be removed. Holden also imagines “smash[ing] the pervert’s] head on the stone steps” (221), but knows he wouldn’t be able to do it himself because he is too yellow.

Always using his imagination because he couldn’t fit in in the real world. Young or old, people get discouraged and pushed down. As the chief of an Indian tribe, from “Chief Joseph Surrenders,” Chief Joseph is so weary and tired from fighting, he gets discouraged and gives up. This goes to show that wise or arrogant, all people have the same emotions. You see it everyday, people beat themselves down, just as others do the same thing to you.

One good example that could go with the theme is, “He made me a magazine rack in his Manual Training class and one week he saved his lunch money and bought me three packs of cigarettes.” (6, McCullers) Sucker is coming out as a really nice person by making something for his cousin and even saving his lunch money so he can't eat and buying his cousin three packs of cigarettes. His cousin doesn’t care about him at all and if he wasn’t so lazing then he would go find a job and get money from that to go get cigarettes. Sucker’s cousin is taking advantage of him and it’s not ok. But sucker is being nice and giving it to him.

He was the worst of the bullies. All of the other bullies looked up to him as their leader. He was the one who wasn’t afraid to give a kid a wedgie, noogie, swirly, or another kind of something-ie. On this particular Friday during lunch, he was pulling his most infamous “joke.” And that would be dunking an innocent victim’s head in the toilet.

Without realizing it until he had been humiliated, Pete acted in the same way in hopes of being accepted by Maybelle that Richard did to him. He seemed to believe that in acting out of unquestioning devotion, he would achieve the same from her, and when she rejected him, out of anger and disappointment, he did the same to the reflection of himself. The characterization of Richard and his change in personality, and the irony of Pete’s unhappy ending portray how people are cruel to those who exhibit their own weaknesses. This also supports the theme of “treat people how you wish to be treated” because someone on both the giving and receiving sides of the spectrum of one-sided admiration can end up in the worst predicament once they lose not only their illusion of happiness, but also the respect they had already been
