Before the start of my fourth year of high school, I would not have known what I wanted to choose as a major in college, but after talking to people who know me well, I have decided one major I am majorly interested in, and that is Computer Science.
Frankly, I do not have much experience with Computer Science. However, a lack of experience does not equate to a lack of interest. Before my journey in search for majors, I have never considered Computer Science; the one slight idea I had about my future, with hesitance and self-doubt, was becoming a designer. I knew I wanted to innovate and solve problems in the world ranging from daily, miscellaneous struggles to global issues, but I was not sure whether designing was the best choice for me

Computer Science caught my attention because it is a field that requires creativity and scientific, mathematical, logical abilities -- skills I possess and wish to include in my future studies and career. My personal encounters with and research about Computer Science manifests that it is a very versatile tool that can be utilized to accomplish countless amazing goals, for instance, creating user-friendly websites, useful applications, and enjoyable games or aiding scientific research by creating systems and software. Of course, there are many other equally amazing applications of Computer Science; I will not list them all here, but this is one of the reasons why I have become so fascinated by Computer Science in such short time. More about Computer Science that fascinates me is how rapidly the technology progresses. For one example, Artificial intelligence started in the late 1950s, starting out with a just an idea of creating an artificial brain, to the present time, where machines are coded to be able to learn human faces and predict their ages. Enabling a machine to learn human faces is already quite exciting on its own, but thinking about what can be accomplished in the future multiplies that
To me, programming seems to align with everything in my life that was lacking security, normality, and “syntax.” Growing up acquainted with PTSD has allowed me to push through difficult times and stay determined. I believe that a person’s future is not based on the opportunities and privileges given to them but rather, the opportunities that they seek and go after. Therefore, my unfamiliarity with the world of computer science doesn’t stop me from being optimistic with my future scholastic success. I want to excel in a male dominant industry and be able to be in the position to empower other young women to go after their dreams.
What interests you about your selected program of study? Computer science has always been the aspect of study that has grabbed my attention from a young age. CS always created a sense of awe in me because of the fact that individual people, with a firm understanding of CS, could completely manipulate technology into whatever creation they wanted. In the same way an artist can paint on a canvas, computer scientist can create through code and each program carries a sense of the programmer with it. The more you learn about CS the more uses it gains, making it a tool that builds upon itself.
My interest in computer science was sparked when I was first exposed to a computer eleven years ago when my father came to the United States from India for the first time. My curiosity for computer science was further stimulated when we communicated with my dad using a webcam. During intermediate school, I was enrolled in a Career Connection class. In the class, I created a presentation of what I wanted to major in during college, which was computer science. Exploring my career choices helped to further spark my interest in computer science.
As a computer science student, I have always been fascinated by the idea of creating something from nothing, and the limitless potential that technology has to offer. I started my academic journey at Riverside City College, where I was able to gain a solid foundation in computer science and develop my programming skills. However, I have always felt that I was not reaching my full potential and that I needed to continue my education at a university where I could further develop my skills and knowledge. This is why I have decided to transfer to the University of Southern California. My primary reason for transferring to USC is to be part of a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about technology and its potential to change the world.
It fits my lifestyle and will also grant me the building blocks to achieve the goals that I have. Now that I have the knowledge and skills to help others create our future brings me great pleasure and determination to spread what I know and allow my designs to manifest into reality. User Experience is very important because it connects user's communication, both physically and psychologically
Education is such a powerful essential to life and it has become an extreme privilege that not everyone can be granted with. I have been lucky enough to receive outstanding educational experiences and there are two specific events that have completely affected my educational performance: becoming a resource helper in an autistic classroom and being on yearbook staff. After being a part of those two events, my entire perspective on education has shifted focus and now I clearly see what a blessing my educational career has been. I have been extremely passionate about teaching since such a young age, so when I got the opportunity to become a resource member for autistic children, I immediately accepted. In my heart, I knew that I could become
I want to pursue computer science as my major because I want to expand my knowledge about coding and programming so I can initiate a nonprofit. My nonprofit will consist of teaching minority students with limited or no access to computers; how to use them to be productive and have fun. They will learn how to code, program, build firewalls, and computer literacy. Within my nonprofit I want the kids to create video games, websites, apps, etc. I believe that with my major I can help close a digital divide between technology and people with limited or no access to technology.
After my 10th grade, while most of my colleagues opted for a general science high school program, I chose a diploma in Computer engineering instead. This interest had arisen while preparing for a
Computer Science personal statement When a friend asked me: "Why do you like computer science? " I found myself unable to give an answer. However, from that moment on, I tried to understand what makes computer science so attractive for me. My passion for computers started in the 9th grade, in 2008, when I started studying it as part of the introduction to computer curriculum in my high school. This seems like interesting because there was no computer in our elementary school in Bingol, the Kurdish region in Turkey.
Doubtlessly, primary education plants the seeds of learning in the minds of young people. I am a diligent and organised student hoping to join the Education Course. I have recognised the importance of education and the impact it has on the lives of young people through volunteering and work experience, as well as being a pupil and seeing different teaching methods myself. I feel the Primary Education course is ideal for me to expand not only my own knowledge, but also that ofyounger students. My A Level subjects have been highly beneficial to the Education course, particularly English, as it has enabled me to teach younger students and gain the confidence to speak in front of classes.
The demand for globalised trade and investment has significantly increased in recent years. This has meant that there is a need for individuals who are trained in business and completing this degree will allow me to enter the field of business. Books such as 'How the city of London works' by William M. Clark has highlighted the importance of finances and further expanded my knowledge and interest into why businesses succeed or fail. Programmes such as 'The Apprentice' has enabled me to gain an insight of how the business world operates.
John Dewey had once said “Education is not preparation for life: Education is life itself. This quote from John explains my belief of how everyone should be able to have an education no matter what their money status, where they live or their criminal history. Around 57 million children around the world do not have any type of school to go to. I believe that education provides us the knowledge to better ourselves, better the world and give us a way to have a successful and fulfilling life.
While life-long learning exposes you to new possibilities of improvements, it also excels you in your areas of expertise. Knowledge is never enough and you can never be satisfied with what you learn because there is always new stuff to learn. It is never too late or too soon to learn. Whatever skills a person acquire can last for life-long, but the same skills will not be applied in the workforce for life-long. An article by Coleman supports that learning isn’t simply about earning degrees or attending storied institutions (Coleman, 2017).
Art had always been a big part of my life. At age 12, I remember watching a music video of my favourite band and how tears just started to stream down my face. I was so touched at how such a beautiful story was told in such a simple way. Since then, I promised myself that I would someday make something that beautiful. I would make a mark on the world, as I inspire others to make their own.
Computer science is about understanding this process. That is why it is considered a science. Beyond my major, I chose to minor in management to build my communication capabilities, and I plan to continue onto graduate school in the field of computer science to build my knowledge base. Together, these experiences will develop the ability and expertise necessary to pass down knowledge.
