Throughout my whole life I have always passionate about agriculture. I joined 4-H late in elementary school and was exposed to a side of a side of agriculture I was unfamiliar with at the time. Because of the positive role models in 4-H and FFA, I was introduced to raising and showing livestock. Through these projects I gained valuable life skills such as time-management, responsibility, and the value of a hard work ethic. While raising livestock is no easy feat, the process gave me the confidence to tackle any issue. It taught me to take strategic risks while still being mindful of the end goal. The struggles within these projects have taught me that the best feeling is not winning a prize, but rather succeeding after a battle is fought with strength, resolve, and purpose. I have been both humbled and inspired by the generosity of my local community. For without the help of the community, I would not be the success I am today. I have discovered the warmth and generosity of my neighbors; I also found the leadership skills I had within myself, and learned how to use them for the good of others. Mr. Mason Smoak was such a positive role model in the community. While he was successful in his business, he was always concerned about others. He was a selfless man that aimed to build up others. I strive to be like him as he has had an immense impact on my life and within the community. This scholarship is based upon on his legacy and character. By receiving this scholarship, it would enable me to continue my education at the University of Florida in the field of animal science with a track to veterinary medicine. Not only would it allow me to continue my education, but it would enable me to give back to my community through the agriculture community in the way that Mr. Mason Smoak
