National Junior Honor Society Essay Being a member of National Junior Honor Society interests me in a number of ways. I believe I excel in all five criteria of NJHS: academics, leadership, service, citizenship, and character, and being a part of this national organization will help me improve much more in each of the categories. Statement of Purpose In today’s era of rapid infrastructure development in India, civil engineering will play a major role in changing the face of Indian panorama. Structural engineering is heart of civil engineering, the knowledge and technical skills of structural engineers to make architects vision work and turn their creativity into reality excites me. The Bhuj earthquake in 2001 killed 20,023 people, injured another 167,000 and destroyed nearly 400,000 homes. As buildings were designed for gravity loads only there was a need to design sustainable structures with seismic loads by structural engineers.

I found the weekly planner assignment to be enlightening because it showed my weekly progression for the goals I set at the beginning of the week and the roles that I embrace in a given week. This assignment has helped me with what I can do better to align my goals with my actions. These goals come from the roles that define me, so by increasing my chances of achieving my goals, I am also developing my various roles. Completing a weekly planner for two weeks has provided me an opportunity to be critical of how I spend my time and change it to be more complementary to my key roles. The first week of the assignment , I spent a lot of time practicing, helping teammates with their schoolwork, and studying for the LSAT.

The principle reason that motivated me to pursue the MSc Project Management course is the appeal and challenge Project Managers experience in delivering assignments they undertake in their career. The qualification, indeed, lead to very smart and modern careers for graduates who love challenges, creativity, leadership and success. As a twenty one year old recently graduated engineer entering the work place in 2010, I honestly thought that life is good. I have a job, I’m earning decent money and every now and then there will be a promotion on the cards - a sense of entitlement maybe on my part. Only after being in the work place for a few months did I realise that there is no entitlement, the degree got me in the door but hard work is the only thing that will get me promoted. Of course at that stage money was the only driver I had. I then put my head down and worked hard for the next 2 years and before I knew it I was promoted to principal engineer.
