Personal Statement
Lying in bed as a little kid my thoughts grew like a wildfire, racing, from thoughts about candy, to episodes of Tom and Jerry, or colorful and imaginative thoughts. Yet the question that persisted in my head was why the person I looked up to the most left me, without explanation, or simply saying goodbye. At the same time I was reaching an age where I was beginning to understand the world around me, which left me scarred mentally, and emotionally.
What most affected me was when my father left me for periods of time throughout my life. the father figure in my life that was supposed to be there in times of a needed role model, and to be the one to shape me into a man, not being in my life around my mother and sisters built a confusion inside of me as a little kid creating mixed emotions about my dad. after a period of three years of him not having contact with me has left me scarred. curiosity of why my dad left me with no reason or explanation lead to the discovery of my dad had hurt my mom emotionally and physically throughout their

He was a giant and he was twice my size. He was also my idol. He was also the person who taught me bad habits. Most which involved stealing. I went from stealing candy to gas stations, to raiding people’s homes. In reflection, I now realize my behaviors were the result of my fractured relationship with my dad. In a way I went from idolizing my father, to idolizing Beto.
My turning point came after I was in a major car accident at the end of my sophomore year of high school. Two of my friends died as a result of our reckless and un-mindful decisions. That experience made me realize that I was on the wrong track. My friends dying were proof to me that my life could end in an instant without me ever accomplishing much or leaving a legacy behind. I realized how other people’s lives can be negatively or positively impacted by the decisions I
One challenge I have persisted through is my father's substance abuse and how it effected me. Growing up, I watched as my alcoholic father turned abusive. Eventually, after years of witnessing domestic violence and fearing for my life, my father was incarcerated. Although I thought he was gone for good, he returned from prison after a few years. However, I was convinced that he was changed.
Had my father not been so understanding of me, I may have made a mistake that could have affected the rest of my
My father was a big part of my life before they separated. I considered myself closer to my father than I ever was with my mother since he allowed me more freedom. I never thought I would be without a dad, but I have seen the terror and distress in my mom's eyes while she’s lived and put up with the violence. This lead me to believe it was better to be left alone than to put up with fear. My father was someone that I always looked up to as a child because he was the one that took us in.
I was mentally hard on myself for every mistake and everything thing that I did because of my father, I never was good enough, never satisfied with anything I achieved. Because of my determination of wanting my father to be proud of me, in the military I received metals for sharp shooter and grenades, it’s pretty obvious who I thought about while I was training. Another great way to release frustration. My experience in the military change me in ways that would benefit me in my everyday life. I knew my father would be proud and he was until I got released from the military a couple of months after 911 took place.
When I was three years old, my dad died of lung cancer. At the time of his death, he and my mom had been married for ten years, and they had four kids together. After my dad’s death, my mom was left raising the four of us on her own, relying mainly on herself to do this. There was criticism during and after the event by people who should’ve been there for her, including her sister-in-law and others in the community. She lived like this for about one year until she met my step-dad.
My name is Khemiga Khemacheevakul. I am currently enrolled as an international, second year student at the University of Alberta, and I am majoring in the four year Bachelor of Food Science and Technology program. As a future graduate of this program I will have a variety of job prospects that I may choose from. Examples include jobs in the food industry as a food biochemist, food microbiologist, food products inspector, food products sales representative, food scientist, or a food and beverage supervisor. Although there are many job opportunities that I will be able choose from in the future, I am interested in being a food scientist; specifically in the quality assurance or quality control areas as a HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control
I don’t believe that every family is perfect. Even though as a young child I thought my situation was abnormal, little did I know most of my friends were going through the same thing. Even though I handled my parents separations relatively well I am not one to believe that this is the case for everyone. My parents always told me the truth. They didn’t sugar coat the situation or lie to me.
Technology and design are constantly changing. When seeking employment, students need to be up to date and equipped with a vast amount of skill as well as determination and passion to stand out amongst their peers. As an instructor, it is my goal to best prepare my students to enter the workplace as professionals with the education, talent and drive they require to succeed. I believe that to be successful, you must exhibit a passion and desire for what you do.

There is a rapid growth in global organizational concepts, crystallized in American business philosophy, to be as effective as possible in the most efficient way. New technology involving networking information and automation influences the behavior of business and enables significant transformation. This need to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in such a competitive age is increasingly crucial to the success of a business. “How Do You Expect To Change The World?” To ask a teenager how they expect to change the world is asking a teenager to think about something greater than them, bigger than the bubble in which we’ve created to keep ourselves comfortable. When I think about the impact I want to leave on our planet and the influence I want to have in the world, I tremble with ardor. I want to step out of my bubble and impact our world positively by developing a new way of viewing medicine. I plan on increasing the utilization of technology in medicine and increasing the knowledge that students and current practicing physicians have on preventive medicine.
My idea of the good life involves using the knowledge and wisdom I acquire to improve the well-being of our planet and all sentient creatures living on it. My undergraduate experience at the University of Florida would prepare me to achieve this by making me a well-rounded individual, providing me the means to achieve my goals, and helping me to communicate my ideas. While many see education as a means to an end, I value education most for its ability to shape me. I hope to use my experience at UF to deepen my perception and understanding of the world to improve my decision-making by learning from the mistakes of the past, and to enhance my opinions by learning about the views of others, especially when they contradict my own. Not only will my education at UF help me gain knowledge, but it will also train me in various ways of thinking, allowing me to better analyze life situations and make better decisions.
