Social Work-MSW I always received great satisfaction from helping others. I remember at an early age, helping my grandfather with chores that he was no longer able to do for himself. As I got older, my grandfather became more dependent on me. I helped him cook, clean, and made sure he kept her doctor appointments. I truly enjoyed being someone he depended on and confided in, in his last years. I strongly believe that my passion to become a social worker stems from the bravery and comforting nature of being there for my grandfather. My grandmother is a Social Worker now and I always admired and appreciated the genuine work and service she has done, for example, visiting her sickle cell patients on holidays, being able to mentor undergraduates, and the various volunteer opportunities she has done. I feel that I can be an advocate for those who are neglected or abused. I feel that the Master’s in Social Work program would give me the theoretical foundation as well as the intensive training that is necessary to become a successful social worker. I have always known that I wanted to become a Social Worker, advocating for those who needs a voice. I knew that I needed to change my life to achieve the goal that I set myself. I am interested in pursuing my education in obtaining my Master’s in Social Work because I have a strong passion for helping people and I can give back to my community. I have a passion to help others and committed to helping people function the best they can
I have the ability to engage in effective social work practice as I have been exposed to many settings which have provided me the groundwork build my competencies. I have been in a school setting to which I was providing individual and group therapy for students ages 5 through 18. I utilized cognitive behavioral therapy worksheets which are evidence-based and recognized the changes in some students. I ensured that the worksheets utilized were appropriate for whichever age group. During my time in the hospital setting, I built my skills in assessing client needs and coordinating with many community organizations for needed resources.
I have struggled to keep my school work a priority as I need to balance it with my part-time work and with the things I like to do to keep my life as normal as possible (like cheerleading and spending time with my friends). I am very honored and thankful to be the first the person in my family to attend college fall of 2016. As I strive to end my senior year positive, I always remember to tell my younger siblings to try as hard as they can in school, because “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I’ve decided that I would like to get my degree in social work, specifically working with children. Growing I’ve been around kids that are unhappy with thier home, but couldn’t do anything about it.
Autobiographical Statement Social work is important to me because I see there are a lot of problems both systemic and with individual people that need to be addressed through research and clinical work. I want to spend my life working on improving services and quality of life of foster children and their families, supporting the grief and loss process with cultural sensitivity, working to reduce negative prejudice and discrimination, especially when it holds people back from living out their full potential, and understanding and providing needed resources to people who struggle with mental health and disability through evidenced based practice and scientific work. I want to provide services whether that be individually, in the community or
It was difficult getting to where I am currently with trying to understand who I was? And who I am? Why I was going through what I was going through? How to understand and interpret what felt almost alien. It wasn’t until after getting into the University of South Carolina as a Biology major that I knew that that wasn’t what I was meant to be doing.
My desire to enter the social work field stems from my strong passion for helping others, especially those who are vulnerable and in need. Throughout my life,
Before pursuing a career in social work, I was never really aware of what social workers were nor how valuable their role in society is. Throughout my childhood, I was never exposed to a life in which social workers were common figures. It was not until I went to high school that I got a better understanding of what the world really looked like and the importance of social workers. I went to a low-income high school in Homestead and it was truly an eye-opening experience. I was always accustomed to an environment with no violence or crime and when I moved there it was a depiction of a reality that I was not aware existed.
This good would be considered self rewarding because you know you are changing someone’s life for the better and giving them what they need to be successful while keeping them away from harm. A bachelor’s degree is usually needed for entry level of social work. There are also master programs of social work that could be used and received without a bachelor’s degree. Some universities offer doctoral programs in social work, students can earn doctorates of social work or Ph.D. The cost of social work varies depending on the university and your own income. To pursue this career, 4-6 years or possibly even 8 years of education will be needed to complete it to have either a bachelors or masters.
Personal Statement Social work by definition means, “any work or service carried out by trained personnel with the aim of alleviating the conditions of those in need of help or welfare”. There are several aspects in my life that motivate me to be a social worker and to perform social work. My uncle motivates me to do social work because he was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a brain disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. His diagnoses enlightened my entire family on how mental disorders can affect a person.
I am confident that the skills that I will gain from completing a social work master’s degree will help me collaborate with people in need and aid sustainable growth in their lives. My first introduction to social work as a profession came while living on a small

My passion for helping and supporting those whose economic and financial standings have hindered their growth in our society, has driven me towards social work. I am applying for a place to study social work because I have always wanted to be able to make a difference to people's lives. With social work I believe I can do this in a caring and supportive way. Many of my life experiences have led me to who I am today. The first thing I remember that caught my attention was how my cousin would always stay with my family. He would be spent weeks with at my house without contract with his parents.
I’ve been asked many times; “Why do you want to be a social worker?” The answer to that is quite simple. I want to be a social worker because of the happiness helping others brings me. I thought I could change the world by influencing future generations through
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
I feel that my education at the University of North Texas has prepared me for a career in social work because it gave me opportunities to branch out of my comfort zone and become familiar with multiple populations of people. Before entering the BSW Program at UNT I was set on working with the geriatric population. I had worked with geriatrics before and was very comfortable with them, forming connections was easy, and I felt this was the population I was meant to be working with. Once I was accepted into the program though I learned that just because I had experience and was comfortable working with this specific population, it didn’t mean I had to continue working with them. My professors provided us with many opportunities to learn about and become familiar with many different populations.
