A few months ago, I learn that south of where I live millions of honeybees have been killed because of acute pesticide poisoning in South Carolina to get rid of Zika mosquitoes. The bees cannot speak for themselves. At Wesak, when big energy is coming to our world, I concentrate the Christ/Buddha energy on Nature, and this includes the bees. I also concentrate on the birds. Especially the Bald Eagles dying because they are poisoned by eating dead animals shot by hunters using lead bullets. This poisoning affects the nervous systems of the eagles so they become paralyzed and cannot fly. The muscles and brain are affected and some eagles can no longer stand or hold up their heads. Some cannot open their beaks. Yes, I concentrate on the Christ/Buddha energy coming to this world to help all living on it. I remember the plight of the eagles and all other birds affected by lead poisoning. …show more content…
Every year flocks of them fly in the fall from their northern Canadian homes to their southern Florida homes. My joy is hearing them calling each other as they fly. Last year, a flock of about fifty geese stopped flying south when they reached a big lake near me. When the water turned to ice, they stayed on the ice rather then on the land. My thought is that staying on the ice protects them from predators, especially in the dark of night. Well, a year ago in the winter, we had a tremendous storm that brought heavy amounts of snow. I worried about the geese living on the ice of the frozen lake. Did they survive the storm? I went to the lake, and YES, they were still on the frozen lake! Just now, it is the first part of the month of May and I am writing you about Wesak, the big Christ/Buddha event. I am not hearing the calling of geese as they fly from the warm South to their homes in the North. I am hearing nothing. Where are they? At Wesak, I use Christ/Buddha energy as I pray that the geese are
The book Peace like a river mentioned many birds through out the book. The book even starts off with swede chasing a goose, this would seem normal if you hadn't looked into it closer. The goose that swede was chasing was a snow goose
In order to survive in a rough freezing environment, the Inupiaq have established a solid understanding of the surrounding’s resources to utilize. Applying cultural concepts to their subsistence strategies, the community practices cooperation and sharing routinely. Hunting not only provides food, but also supports the Inupiaq community with warmth, clothing, tools, and shelter. A subsistence lifestyle equals subsistence hunting, meaning, that this strategy feeds the whole community. Respectfully, elders are fed first.
Every day millions of honey bees fly back and forth from their hives. They pollinate a plethora of flowers and produce great amounts of honey. Many people do not realize what bees do for them and their communities. Without bees, people would not have any fresh flowers or produce. The bee population helps provide growth to one-third of the food in the world (Haltiwanger).
The four texts I have chosen are Crips and Bloods: Made in America directed by Stacy Peralta, The Secret Life of Bees written by Sue Monk Kidd, The Help directed by Tate Taylor and Selma directed by Ava DuVernay. These texts all have the theme of segregation of black and white people in America. Segregation in America in the 1960s was a very large issue at this time, yet is still a part of our society today. A significant connection that unites the two texts Crips and Bloods and The Secret Life of Bees is the theme of segregation of black and white people.
To be completely honest, I was hesitant to start this book due to its theme of racism and how as a black woman, it made me slightly uncomfortable to think of this topic by free will. Incidentally, I’m more than glad to have seen past that aspect because, in the end, I was able to read a timeless classic. The Secret Life of Bees brings delightful characters to life, by giving each their own memorable and lovable personality to bring to the table. My favourite character by far was August, the eldest of the trio of sisters. Her calm and gentle demeanor allows the people around her to open up, like how sunflowers bloom as soon as sunlight is in sight.
When Sue Monk Kidd, the author of “The Secret Life of Bees” wrote this book, you can tell she really put thought into creating all the characters and what their personalities would be like. Each and every one of the characters has an astonishing personality but out of all of them, I think my favorite would have to be August Boatwright. August Boatwright, carries so much knowledge around, she has an amazing personality, she’s kind caring, non-judgemental, and is so smart. In the time the story takes place, it was very rare that Women owned businesses, much less black women-
They always try to roost in the same place every evening where they are safe. You always see them during deer season and duck season but when turkey season comes in you do not really see them at all. They know they are getting pressured. They are educated from other hunters shooting at
The film American Honey has an immersive soundtrack that adds to the dramatic action of the film. The interesting thing about all of the songs in the film is that it appeared that they were all diegetic. By making all of the songs diegetic, it is safe to assume that the music the audience hears is shares a similar effect on the characters of the film. I felt that there were two songs in particular that had resounding effects on Star. These two songs are Copperhead Road by Steve Earle, and I Kill Children by Dead Kennedys. Although I Kill Children is not listed in the American Honey soundtrack and the actual song is not played, it is sung word for word by a character in the film which makes this song unique from other songs in the film.

The Secret Lives of People The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is an interesting story that connects human lives to bees. The story takes place in 1964 during the Civil Rights Movement and fourteen year-old Lily Owens leaves her abusive father and her home in Sylvan, South Carolina to go to Tiburon with hopes to find information on her mother. Throughout the story, Lily struggles with many internal conflicts and also meets several mother figures along the way.
Bees can provide a steady ecosystem that benefits both them and the peoples’ gardens and plants surrounding the bees’ pollination area. Maintaining bee gardens can also be a hassle and bees might become aggressive and harm people. Patricia E. Salkin states, “Bees can create a nuisance if they become aggressive or swarm on neighboring property.” The thing is, bees rarely hurt people. If they do, it is because they are being provoked or they feel threatened in some way.
This again stops the bees from doing their job of pollinating and stops them from getting the food they need to survive. The community can help bees survive by employing a few tactics. One tactic alone will not cure the bee population degradation but it can help boost the bee population. One local and more personal tactic would be to have a “bee garden” that consists of flowering plants that bees like which include apples, oranges, lemons, limes, cucumbers, carrots, and cantaloupes. Another tactic would be do be more environmentally conscious.
Everybody can help out, just by doing one simple thing. Get out and grow bee-friendly plants. You could decorate your yard with them, or even grow them in a pot. It doesn’t matter if you live on a private island or a rabbit hole. One person can not solve this problem, just like how one honeybee can not produce a whole jar of honey.
