An estimate of 47.4 percent of violated drug abuse arrests is related to marijuana in the US. Of the forty-seven percent, 42.1 percent of the arrests were for possession of marijuana while 5.3 percent were arrested for the manufacture or sales of marijuana. Therefore, even though the state is unable to produce and distribute unhealthy substances, marijuana should become legalized because it saves money on prohibition enforcement as well as recorded to treat some diseases and symptoms. A growing amount of states have legalized weed for its medical purposes. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), marijuana has not been approved as a medicine. On the other hand, some of the chemicals found in the cannabis plant can help treat some patients depending on their situation. Marijuana can help treat many diseases and symptoms such as autoimmune disease, Glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, muscle spasms, Alzheimer’s disease, inflammation, pain/seizures/nausea, traumatic stress, substance use disorder and mental disorders. Marijuana is also considered to become a gateway drug for users to discover a stronger or longer high, for examples like the use of heroin or cocaine. Researchers claim that marijuana is linked to a higher risk to use of prescription drugs, according to a recent Yale University medicine study, teenagers who abuse soft drugs are two to three times more likely to be addicted to prescription pills in early adulthood. Also, an increase in teenage girls who abuse prescription was found during the study.
