In episode 7, Sarah admits to Deirdre Enright, who works at the University Of Virginia School Of Law and runs their Innocence Project clinic, that there isn’t any “gross negligence or malfeasance or something on the part of the detectives or the State Attorney’s office, everyone seems to be doing their job, responsibly.” The people working on the case were doing their jobs correctly, and Adnan was convicted, not because the case was built for his conviction, but because the evidence and other information collected pointed to Adnan’s guilt. And Jim Trainum, the detective hired by the Serial staff, tells Sarah that “the detectives in this case were cautious and methodical. They weren’t rushing to grab suspects or to dismiss them either. The excitement all started on December 18, 2015 when the first episode of a famous Wisconsin case was released. This case was the 2005 trial of Steven Avery, a known Wisconsin man who was wrongfully convicted at the age of 22. In 1985, Avery was arrested, tried, and convicted of first-degree sexual assault against Penny Bernstein and was later sentenced to 35 years in prison. During the time he spent locked up, he stood firm on the idea that he never committed the crime and was an innocent man.

It is October 31, 2005. This is the day Teresa Halbach went missing. The disappearance of Teresa Halbach marked the beginning of a long and controversial conviction of both Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey. Although the guilt or innocence of the two is still a hot topic, one must understand the criminal investigation that occurred. Knowing what steps investigators took and how they conducted each method is important to understand because this is what lead investigators to Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.

The podcast, produced by Sarah Koenig, is a spin-off of the radio program This American Life and tells the story of a 1999 murder case in Baltimore, Maryland. The story is told through a series of episodes, each one delving deeper into the case and the investigation. The podcast uses a variety of rhetorical devices to create suspense and engage the audience.

“Serial” Podcast Hae Min Lee, murder at eighteen by strangulation was found dead February 9, 1999 in Leakin Park, Baltimore. Adnan Syed has been in prison for over fifteen years after being convicted of murdering his ex- girlfriend Hae. He has been sentenced for more than thirty years in prison. Jay Wilds testified against Adnan about Hae’s murder even though Jay helped Adnan bury Hae’s body. It could prove that he could be innocent or guilty by the call timeline, Hae’s autopsy, Jay’s testimony.

Serial is a Podcast that investigates a true-life story over a series of twelve episodes. The Podcast takes a look at the fifteen year old murder case of Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s ex-boyfriend was the main suspect and later found guilty of murder for Hae Min Lee’s death and sentenced to life in prison. Serial is hosted by Sarah Koenig an American journalist, public radio personality, and one of the producers of the radio program “This American Life”. The Serial Podcast uses rhetorical devices to appeal to its primary audience by using ethos to establish credibility, pathos to create an emotional response within the audience, and logos to support and poke holes in the murder case.

Her infatuation with the case begins with a call from Adnans best friends older sister Rabia. Koenig looked more into the case and describes it as a “Shakespeare Mashup” in episode 1. Rabia also informs Koenig that she believed Adnans lawyer had botched the case on purpose in order to get more money for the appeal, which enhanced Koenigs interest in the case even more. Throughout the Serial episodes Koenig begins to stray further away from her claim of doing the case out of pure interests. She begins to show bias towards Adnan.

Anya Schultz, the author of a review titled Serial: A Captivating New Podcast, works to show how multiple narratives and stories can be manipulated and sometimes vastly misinterpreted. Serial, an intriguing, enthralling podcast hosted by Sarah Koenig, tells the story of Hae Min Lee, a young, beautiful, high school senior who was murdered in 1999. Lee 's case, as Koenig and Schultz point out, has a few missing pieces of information that were never accounted for. For example, how did the jury come to the conclusion that Lee 's ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was truly guilty? Why did Syed 's lawyer forget to mention the letter from his acquaintance Asia McClain that could have polished his alibi?
