First of all, the progressive era which took place on the period of 1890 to 1920 was an important part,, positive and negative, in the history of the United States which at the moment it main ideals were to destroy the corruption in the government and create a more stable government that could work for the American people and much more less work for the rich. Some of the important things that were created and given were the right to women to vote which did not include people of color and much more less women of color because they were considered less than a human being and not worth of this so called privilege. I strongly believe that we are all equal and that nobody is above nobody else because were born the same way and will die sooner or …show more content…
Greed and excess by the rich that wanted more money, control all they could to see the poor die of hunger. At this time even the middle class was being push deep in the darkness where it was difficult to get out. The greed of the rich go to inexplicable places because they don’t care about anybody. They could see people drowning and will find the way to blame others to change the focus from them and make the focus on people that has nothing to do in the meaning of being the responsibles for them to being poor when the opportunities are limited. I think a responsibility that we all have is to stand up against the greedy people that want to charge us responsibles for them being rich because there is something that we all could do to fight back. I believe that something similar happen right now, it could be going slow but a similar trend is happening now, such as the current president which is being accused of crimes, and also them rich becoming richer while putting deep in the darkness the rest of the people I think is also important to noticed that he is trying to blame it specially on the minorities and the weak because is so easy to blame it on others specially when this ideals are broadly accepted by a broadly part of us citizens. Moreover, social and political intervention took a lot of the blame for the situation of people being in poverty. I also think that something that I consider was important were the technological changes that citizens were going through(The Gilded Age, Lecture 2). Changes that force you to adapt for the new that is coming such as now a days, essays are mostly accepted type on a computer probable is because of a change in technology and for a line of standards on how to present an essay. Certainly the gilded age was an important factor that drove us to the progressive era, the post
The fact that so many people were unable to provide food for themselves shows the gravity of the
The year 1919 or to say the early period during the 20th century is also known as the First Red Scare in the history of the United States of America. There was a widespread fear of Bolshevism and anarchism all over the United States, which was influenced by the Russian Revolution as well as the Worldwide Communist Revolution. Labor strikes, walkouts, social disorder, race riots, murders and much more violence had created chaos and paranoia throughout the nation. The threat of communist revolution in the United States following the World War I implied radical actions of American organized labor along with Bolshevism created tough challenges for maintaining social order as well as led to interracial violence among the whites and blacks. The Seattle
Within American history, there were many different eras that have shaped this country into what it truly is today. One of these eras, which is known as one of the most influential eras in American history, is known as the Progressive era. The Progressive era was a period of widespread social activism and political reform across the United States. Many of the things that this era was trying to accomplish was to put forth efforts to outlaw the sale of alcohol; regulate child labor and sweatshops; scientifically manage natural resources; insure pure and wholesome water and milk; Americanize immigrants or restrict immigration altogether; and bust or regulate trusts. The people who tried to promote many of these movements were known as progressives
People were affected by the new ideas that emerged throughout the Renaissance in both positive and harmful ways, these ideas eventually sparked the Protestant Reformation. Renaissance Europe was the rebirth of classical ideas from Greece and Rome. Historians have identified that the main sources of the European Renaissance beginning were the emergence of humanism, different artistic and technological innovations, and the impacts of conflict and death. The enduring issue that is most prevalent during the Renaissance period is Acceptance or Opposition to new ideas. Acceptance or Opposition to new ideas means new ideas can come into conflict with traditional ideas, the spreading of new ideas can be beneficial or harmful depending on many factors.
In turn this affected economic growth and helped separate the industry rich tycoons and poverty stricken laborers even further. The gap between these two began to grow larger. Monopolies started to rise and self-made millionaires were now on every corner. However, the Progressives kept pushing with the Populist’s ideals and beliefs fueling their protests, and eventually made some headway. Many major events come out of this period known today as the Progressive Era.
The Enlightenment was also in a certain manner criticized this time by a number of traditionalist thinkers who blamed it for weakening traditions and religion without replacing anything in their place other than a misguided confidence in reason. These conservative thinkers saw that the Enlightenment was mainly a conflict versus the inherited religion, which is a losing situation or battle since that religion is spiritual and not founded on materialistic or rational grounds. They believe that the Enlightenment is a backer for atheism and disbelief. They also charge the Enlightenment thinkers by focusing on the secular and rational rather than the holy and spiritual, therefore disestablish the religious ties that gathered through centuries different
After women gained their independence and right to vote, they were more confident and not afraid of other people’s opinions (Price par. 7). Even though women had gained the right to vote, the discrimination against them did not end (Perry par. 6). Women joined activist groups such as the National American Women Suffrage Association and the Congressional Union, where they protested with different tactics to get what they wanted (Dumenil p. 22).
The Progressive Era of the early 20th century marks a period of extreme political, social, and economic reform in the United States. Many of the movements that began during this time are still active in today’s world, such as the progression of civil and labor rights. Since the 1920s, civil rights have made the largest advancements out of any Progressive Era campaigns. For example, segregation has transformed over the last century from being the norm to being almost non-existent. On the contrary, labor rights have failed to change significantly since the early 1900s, evident by the fact that workers are being paid a similar amount as they were 100 years ago when accounting for inflation.
This was caused by the lack of regulations and laws which allowed businessmen to get away with paying their employees unethically low wages without benefits. This lack of regulations and laws also enabled business to cut corners, which lead to unsafe product, such as spoiled meat as seen in document 2, and child labor, which is seen in document 3, in order to save money. During the gilded era, corrupt politicians added to the problems and injustices. Document 4 shows this using a comic.
In the period between 1900 and 1920, the federal government and reformers were very successful in bringing social, economic, and political reform to the federal government. While not every aspect of it was successful, the rights of women, fighting against child labor and limiting the control of trusts and monopolies were three distinct successes of that time. Even before the progressive era, women challenged their place and articulated new visions of social, political and economic equality. The progressive era was a turning point for women as organizations evolved fighting for equal rights. Woman began to become very involved in a variety of reform movements.
The progressive era which lasted from 1890-1920 in American society was the institution of radical reforms brought about by the millions of Americans involved in volunteer organizations across the country. During this time Americans worked to create solutions to the problems caused by the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country. The progressive era was not a single movement, but rather a collection of movements all of which were intended to improve the lives of Americans. This was a truly remarkable time for women and the end of the era would see almost universal women’s suffrage with the passing of the nineteenth amendment in 1920.
The progressive era had a huge impact on today's society, Womens suffrage was the most biggest problem we had. Women should earn the same respect that men have. They should earn the same wages as the me have. Once people starting noticing that and started realizing that women are not that much different and that there still human being too
Both Progressive Era reformers and the federal government sought to bring about reform at the national level. Examples of such reforms they wanted to make include: trust-busting, consumer safety, restrictions on child labour, civil rights, and women’s suffrage. Overall, the Progressive Era reformers and the federal government were effective in their efforts from 1900 to 1920, however there were some limitations. During the Gilded Age, and prior, the quality of America was unsatisfactory.
Women in the Progressive Era The Progressive Era was a time of change across America, a time when the country chose to reform into an industrialized urban country. Prosperity was widespread across America, so people turned to social issues to try to expand. Minorities in particular became a focus of this time period, and everyone tried to find a way to integrate them into society.
However, it were these movements in the 19th century that first started to point out the hypocrisy of American ideals, and started to garner support for the advocacy of democratic ideals. Eventually, these movements would lead to more intense scrutiny of the American Constitution, and greater equality for all classes of citizens, as seen in the Civil Rights movement of the late 20th century, and America’s society today. Now a days, Americans enjoy a blessed amount of equality and opportunity, due to the societal reform movements started in the 19th century. Unfortunately, evil persists, and some discrimination is still inevitable even to today, as demonstrated in the rise of Neo-nazism and rape culture. Regardless, one must not lose hope, for within each man lies a flicker of
