The Progressive Era took place between 1900-1920. Progressivism is the term applied to a variety of people within the economic and social problems during this time peiod. With rapid industrialization being introduced to America The people started to be more progressive. The early progressives rejected Social Darwinism they favored Progressives. The Progressive Era was a time of social activism and political reform across the United States, from the 1900s to 1920s.

Luckily, the movement of progressivism swept across America in a hurry. Progressives had an ultimate goal, to improve society. Homes and factories were filthy, deforestation was rising, and most people were working in horrible conditions. Using the examples of sanitation, wildlife, and the workplace; I can choose where to put my money. If I had one million dollars to spend on society improvements in the early 1900’s, I would spend $500,000 on factories and labor, $300,000 on sanitation and $200,000 on wildlife.

Progressivism, a broad idea of hopes to bring change in the social and political lives of Americans, arose around the year 1900. During this time, the social structure had troubles; for instance, female reformers organizations formed in hopes to protect women and children, the middle class felt threatened by businesses, and the contribution to political and economic decisions from all classes was inexistent. To counteract the conditions of nineteenth century American life, Jane Addams and other settlement house workers worked directly toward creating a more equitable social structure. The popularity of the Progressive movement in the early 1900's was due to several social and cultural changes in the United States. In the wake of chaotic reorganizations of the country after industrialization and urbanization, as well as the influences of earlier ideological movements such as Populism and Pragmatism, the Progressives sought to bring order and progress to society through central planning, social reform, and even social control. The intellectuals were understood to have the best interests of the people in mind, and therefore had the responsibility to intervene in society through the means of the state. Progressives pursued battles over issues like government regulation of the economy and democratic reform of the electoral process. Some of them worked for women suffrage, others for temperance, and still others for immigration restriction, government inspection of foods and drugs, or the improvement of wages and working conditions. Several politicians that occupied government offices also worked to end corruption in law enforcement, public transportation and other city services. Also, political powers of the voters were increased by legislation which gave them additional powers such as recall of a person from public office before his or her term ended. The Progressive Era from the 1890s to 1920s was a period that experienced extensive social activism and political reforms across the United States. This movement was spurred by the heightened level of corruption and injustice of large corporations and in government at that time. The movement primarily comprised of “liberals who wanted to reform and regulate their capitalist society and not destroy it. " There were several pushes to make the political process more open and transparent. One of which was the adaptation of the direct primary elections and to grant the Presidents more powers to regulate new laws.

During the progressive era our country faced many problems. The rise of substantial businesses caused industrial problems. Women suffrage, alcohol, child labor, and safety issues caused social problems. The necessitation of citizens in government decisions also caused political problems. Progressives were people who wanted to solve all of these quandaries.

“Child labor and poverty are inevitably bound together and if you continue to use the labor of children as the treatment for the social disease of poverty, you will have both poverty and child labor to the end of time” (Grace Abbott). The issue of child labor has been around for centuries. Its standing in our world has been irrevocably stained in our history and unfortunately, our present. Many great minds have assessed this horrific issue and its effect on our homes, societies, and ultimately, our world.

The progressive era which lasted from 1890-1920 in American society was the institution of radical reforms brought about by the millions of Americans involved in volunteer organizations across the country. During this time Americans worked to create solutions to the problems caused by the rapid industrialization and urbanization of the country. The progressive era was not a single movement, but rather a collection of movements all of which were intended to improve the lives of Americans. This was a truly remarkable time for women and the end of the era would see almost universal women’s suffrage with the passing of the nineteenth amendment in 1920.

The progressive era had a huge impact on today's society, Womens suffrage was the most biggest problem we had. Women should earn the same respect that men have. They should earn the same wages as the me have. Once people starting noticing that and started realizing that women are not that much different and that there still human being too

The Progressive Era was a movement from the late 19th century to the early 20th century where many people in the United States tried to reform political, social, and economic injustices. This might sound like a good thing, but most of the movement was filled with corruption and ulterior motives. The Progressive movement was not entirely clean; while there were selfless reformers, many reformers only wanted reform if it suited them. Using the historical interpretations of George Mowry, Joseph Huthmacher, and James J. Connolly, I will explain who the progressives were and what their reformed society entailed. I will also state what historian is most persuasive and why.

Many reformers and activits demanded for change in education, food and drug policies, and most importantly the govermenet. The goal for the movement was the purify the nation. But not all work done by children should be accepted as child labor. In other words, if a work doesn’t harm child’s health or personal development (educational issues), it is generally accepted as something positive and useful.
