For years republicans have been trying to defund Planned Parenthood, and at this moment in history, they are closer towards their goal than ever. With a republican majority senate, and a republican as president, the fight to defund Planned Parenthood only faces minimal resistance. Republicans, more specifically the Trump Administration, like to hide behind their religious beliefs and values when it comes to their ideas regarding Planned Parenthood. They tend to only focus aspects that they disagree with while paying no mind to the good that Planned Parenthood does. These republicans that are working to defund Planned Parenthood and oppose Planned Parenthood so strongly tend to only focus on the belief that defunding Planned Parenthood would …show more content…
Today more than four million American individuals rely on Title X and its services. Without Title X, over four million individuals will lost the affordable preventive health care they have. Doing away with Title X is also doing away with women 's rights, and a woman 's control over her own body. I know that many of you believe that doing away with federal funding for Planned Parenthood is for the best, but in actual reality it is probably one of the worst things you could do. Doing away with Title X would lead to more unintended pregnancies because women 's access to affordable birth control would be cut off. Not only would their access to affordable birth control be cut off, but also their access to STI testing and treatments, and their access to life-saving cervical and breast cancer …show more content…
What I would like for people to realize is that Planned Parenthood is more that meets they eye. They are more than people give them credit for, and they are more than an abortion clinic. The services they provide range anywhere from sexual education and contraception education to helping with gender identity and sexual orientation, or from reproductive services to cancer screenings and STI testing and treatment. They services they provide are endless, and all equally important. As someone who has struggled with their sexual orientation and with self acceptance, if I had known that Planned Parenthood provided services such as these, I would have taken advantage of them and gotten the guidance that I needed. Having services like these in place can help save thousands of individuals lives. Thousands of individuals struggle with self acceptance, and in the end commit suicide because they didn 't have anyone there to tell them that they were okay and that nothing was wrong with them, that they should be proud of who they are. Many individuals who struggle with gender identity issues, sexual orientation, and self acceptance do not seek help because they do not know where to find it. Defunding Planned Parenthood would dismantle services and programs such as this, and make it even more difficult and even more impossible for individuals struggling to get the help and guidance they need towards self
There are many other women who do not live as well as myself, who do not have the same privilege as I do. These women need Planned Parenthood to prevent disease and unplanned pregnancies. To pretend that these people do not need Planned Parenthood to stay healthy, to survive, is almost as ludicrous as the notion that Planned Parenthood endorses the killing of innocent lives. Planned Parenthood is much more than abortions. It stands for the rights of women as humans, as people who need help, to improve the lives of those who cannot improve theirs on their own.
Planned Parenthood is more than just an abortion clinic When people think of Planned Parenthood, their mind goes straight to abortion. Americans believe that all Planned Parenthood does is perform abortions, which is a very flawed misconception. The non-profit organization does a lot more than that, they promote safe sex, prevent unplanned pregnancies, provide preventive care and screening for cervical and other cancers. I think that it’s important that we continue funding Planned Parenthood because without it women in America will be left without important resources.
Therefore, logically, these services should not be shut down for purely religious reasons. Yet even so, Warren clarifies that the organization at its simplest supports a women with “wrenching, intimate, and private medical decisions” such as PAP tests, cancer screenings, and much more. With such conviction, it is clear that decisions made at Planned Parenthood are very personal, private, and important matters that could save a woman’s life. Denying a woman access to this life changing medical assistance found at Planned Parenthood would be exceedingly unreasonable and unjust. In particular, Planned Parenthood continues to be an obvious example of a helpful and truly good association through all its services including helping mothers and their babies with “prenatal care, better infant nutrition, head-start classes, and medical research on medical abnormalities. . . .”
Planned Parenthood had saved many lives and ultimately changed the way the American society thinks about safe sex. The majority of the United States takes Planned Parenthood Institutional teachings reliable, and affective. If this law did succeed against Griswold, the United States as a whole would be different in contraceptives. It would not be a right for both men and women to use contraceptives and protect themselves if it wasn't for Griswold that stood up against the Connecticut law. A devastating impact on society would take away peoples rights to be able to prevent from getting pregnant.
Their services include screening and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and infections among other things regarding contraception. House speaker Paul Ryan has spoken out about Republicans plan to defund Planned Parenthood. I believe that we should continue to fund Planned Parenthood, this health center serves up to 2.5 million people each year from all different economic classes. Ever since Roe v. Wade, there has been serious controversy on abortion, and because of the mixed opinions I believe all federal funding for planned parenthood, would not be towards abortion, but for other sexual health
I am a social work student at Frostburg State University and I have completed a policy analysis on the defunding of Planned Parenthood. I oppose defunding of Planned Parent because I believe it serves a good purpose in communities. Defunding of Planned Parenthood would remove all federal funding and allow states to take away state funding from them. Without the 500 million dollar yearly funding that Planned Parenthood receives they will have to shut down a numerous amount of their clinics and many of the nine million clients will not have anywhere to go to for preventive and family planning services. In 2012, Texas stopped funding Planned Parenthood with state aid.
Lastly, the number of abortions would go up if Planned Parenthood were to be defunded. Planned Parenthood offers more than just abortions, whilst they are a very small part of what Planned Parenthood offers. 42% of what they offer is STI/STD testing and treatment, 34% is contraception, an 11% is other women’s health services, 9% being cancer screening and prevention, then abortion at a small 3% of what they offer, while 1% is other services. This
Many people would argue that if the government were to stop funding Planned Parenthood that thousands of women would lose access to the medical care they need, but this is simply not true. There are alternative options to Planned Parenthood that provide safe primary care treatment, contraception, sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing, and cancer screenings. In the article “If Planned Parenthood goes, where do women go?” Charles C. Camosy, an associate professor of theological and social ethics at Fordham University, states, “Rather than the one-size-fits-all franchise approach of Planned Parenthood, these community health centers nicely embody the principle of subsidiarity in responding to the diverse local needs of women — whether in
Abortion opponents want this bill passed because it would reduce the amount of abortions being performed in the country. Planned parenthood serves mainly lower income women, and if Planned Parenthood could not perform abortions for a year, few lower income women could get abortions. Some could get abortions by paying more for them, but not all. The reason abortion opponents are pushing for this is recent reports that Planned Parenthood has been selling fetal tissue for research. This has not been proven.
The support Planned Parenthood provides, gives a reproductive justice framework. The service sand information the provide combats the “sidewalk consolers” who aim is to dissuade women from women from carrying out their reproductive right to choose what they can do with
Planned Parenthood performs many breast exams, which are needed to detect early cancer, and pap tests, which can find pre-cancerous cells. There’s no question that Planned Parenthood helps prevent and treat very serious sexually transmitted infections and diseases. Moreover, the organization tests for and treas STI’s quite inexpensively. Without Planned Parenthood, women who are uninsured or have a low income would have nowhere to go to get these necessary tests done. Yet in 2015, the republicans attempted to shut down the United States government over funding women’s
The Right to Abortion On January 22, 1973, in a 7-2 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down it’s landmark decision in the case of Roe v. Wade, which recognized that the constitutional right to privacy extends to a woman’s right to make her own personal medical decisions — including the decision to have an abortion without interference from politicians (Planned Parenthood). There are many moments in history when Roe v. Wade has been so close to being overturned, yet it is still in place. Abortion should stay legal, or not overturned, for the health of women everywhere. First, this important case took place at the time of abortion being illegal in most states, including Texas, where Roe v. Wade began.
). Pro choice activists feel that states have once again have interfered with a woman’s choice to choose. One error made by abortion supporters is that they believe that states are now creating hostile conditions for woman to have abortions. According to “Abortion Rights are Threatened”, states are mandating that woman receive “biased” counseling and that parental involvement requirements become harsher for minors electing to have abortions.
Before Roe v. wade the number of deaths from illegal abortions was around 5000 and in the 50s and 60s the number of illegal abortions ranged from 200,000 to 1.2 million per year. These illegal abortions pose major health risks to the life of the woman including damage to the bladder, intestines as well as rupturing of the uterus. The choice to become a mother must be given to the woman most importantly because it’s her body, her health, and she will be taking on a great responsibility. A woman’s choice to choose abortion should not be restricted by anyone; there are multiple reasons why abortion will be the more sensible decision for the female.
Not only would it provide another option to a difficult decision, it could help benefit society. Women have abortions for many different reasons and we should respect their reasons. One of the top reasons on why women don’t have abortions is “Having a baby would dramatically change my life (i.e interfere with education, employment and ability to take care of existing children and other dependents) (74% in 2004 and 78% in 1987)” (Knapp, 2007, pg.
