Finally, interactions with others shape who people become by molding their personalities and feelings. Once again, Elie was shaped by his interactions with others, specifically the Nazi’s. Elie’s personality and feelings were also majorly affected by his interactions with the Nazi’s at the concentration camp he and his family were once trapped at. He underwent a major shift in personality: “Never shall I forget the Nocturnal silence that deprived me for all eternity of the desire to live,” (Wiesel 37). This quote demonstrates that Wiesel’s was shaped into a whole different version of himself, with an adapted personality and feeling due to brutal, human interactions. The environment he was in, surrounded by all these awful people, influenced
The closing quote of the novel Night reveals how the inhumane experiences in the camps turned him into a living corpse and there are many events that led up to this haunting ending. What Wiesel meant by this statement is how he was able to survive the Holocaust even when everything was taken from him. He is explaining how after being held as a prisoner, he no longer sees himself as truly alive. The experiences we face, the horrors we witness, and the terrors we live through, kill us inside, but we still live on.
In Night, there are several quotes residing within its covers which are of the utmost significance along with containing utter poignancy. These quotes are not mellifluous and influence the novel in their own idiosyncratic methods. There were moments when the main protagonist reaches a religious nadir, which is concomitant to the loss of hope in his future dreams. The second quote projects a differentiation in Eliezer's opinion of soup, contingent on his previous observations of executions. The last quote containing a deep meaning about the imperious dictator Hitler.
In the story “Night”, Elie Wiesel walks us through his horrible experience that he had to go through as a little boy. Just recently, I got to hear this experience from a different perspective from a survivor of the Holocaust, Mr. Guy Prestia. He talked to us about the horrible things that he had to go through for years and years, but he survived. I am honored to show you how Mr. Guy Prestia exemplifies the qualities of a survivor as described in some quotes from “Night”. To begin, Mr. Guy Prestia is doing his job of stepping up and using his voice, to preach about what he had to go through, that some others can’t do.
Night was definitely a worthwhile read. I think that the biggest take away for me, was all that I learned from it. Before reading this story I already a general amount of information from World War II but reading a personal biography life story really helped me understand was just the details and extreme extent of everything that happened. Reading through someone’s personal story gives you a deeper understanding and a more thorough perspective on the real events that happened. I think that Night re-enforces what a lot of people already know, but it makes you feel more connected to the brutality of our world's history.
The picture that lingered in my mind the most after reading Night was the thoughts of Nazis burning many, many babies in furnaces like they were meat. The reason that this lingered in my mind was because babies are so defenseless and innocent. They were no threat and could have caused no harm to the Nazis, but the Nazis were so evil that they burned young babies alive. This stuck with me because although I knew the Nazis were evil people, even I didn’t go so far as to think that they would ruthlessly and systematically destroy helpless children. It also strikes me as odd, because although the babies were Jewish, they could have been indoctrinated by Nazis and raised away from their Jewish families - thus fulfilling the Nazi goal of eliminating
Night Response Paper Reading this memoir about the horrific genocide is very disturbing. It makes me upset that millions of innocent people are killed for literally nothing. How does Eliezer tolerate dehumanization, why didn't the Aryans help the Jews, how does Eliezer survive with small amount of food, these questions go through my mind everytime I read the memoir, Night. I’m learning a lot as I’m reading this memoir. For example, how the prisoners are dehumanized and what their life is like in concentration camps.
The anchoring fear and pain that “Night” brought to me gave me chills as I spent my nights thinking about the traitorous ideals that plagued this world in the past. The pain that you and your family felt brought me to tears by the amount of loss that you had to endure. I believe that if I was put in your position years ago I couldn't handle it like you did and have the will to survive day in and day out for the allied forces to save me. Your story gave me a different mindset by teaching me wars need to stop and we all need to come together not as different races or religions but as human beings and as equals. By writing this book you have taught me and generations to come that we need to change this world for the better.
The book Night by Elie Wiesel is a sad and depressing story about Eliezer and his story during the Holocaust and every thing that happened to him during this time. I feel that if I was in this situation I would feel the same exact way Eliezer would because being a teenager during the time of all of this would be stressful and complicated, in fact, this is how I would relate to the text personally. If I had to compare how I view the world between how the text views the world then I would say that they would be similar and agree with each other. There will always be bad people/ things in the world, but if you wait long enough and try hard enough you’ll make it to the end and all the pain will go away. In this situation I feel as if giving up would be the wrong thing to do and pushing through would be the right thing to do in order to stay alive.
Death is introduced immediately as the narrator of the book, and he reveals some key information about his personality. One of his most prominent characteristics is how he feels bored and irritated by his job, a feeling we can relate to; "The trouble is, who could ever replace me? Who could step in while I take a break in your stock-standard resort-style holiday destination...?" In this quote, Death is shown to be more human than his usual image suggests.
Throughout the book night, we meet a young boy named Eli. Eli is a trustworthy, natural boy who loves to learn about his life. Eli is also jewish and loves to learn about his jewish heritage and Judaism in general. “Never shall i forget the moments that murdered my god” pg 34, a quote that he said which could mean the fall of one belief and the rise of something else. Eli goes through a difficult time during this passage “my father had just been struck, in front of me” pg 39.
Mason 1 State of Humanity Davyn Mason Ms. Wasserman ELA B 30 Jan. 19th 2023 We live in a society where humans are born cruel. We see hate and tragedy on a daily basis, which has caused us to become numb to it. In the novel Night by Eliezer Weisel, we follow the experiences of himself during the holocaust. In his story we see many examples of human cruelty, but not all from the people we would expect. While not all humans are evil; a majority of people do not learn from mistakes, ”different” people are treated differently, and humans show their true colours in distress.
Death was the best thing that could have happened to Elie WIesel. In his book, night, he has to overcome some of the most gruesome experiences ever read about, and it’s a true story. He had to get over working in terrible conditions, get over losing his family, and forget his future as his faith was lost. To start off, Elie had to get over the unbearable dilemma of losing multiple members of his family. It is unimaginable to lose any family members in such a horrid way, but that was only one of the barriers he had to face.
